White Sox Sign JJ Putz - armour248 - 12-12-2009 01:52 AM

The White Sox pitching staff could be unbelievable if Putz performs like he did before needing elbow surgery. The starting rotation should be a lock for 65 wins.

Discuss.

What a Putz.

i'm a little leery about his coming off of surgery, but if he does pan out to his "normal" self, i LOVE our pitching staff. however, we still need a guy who can lead off.

I read this on another message board, but if he falters, we can use the phrase as HMM said...."what a putz"...that in itself is worth a $1 million contract!

Yeah the performance of a guy coming off of surgery is always up in the air. Could go back to his old form, might never be successful again. Either way, I'm glad the contract is so incentive based. I love incentive contracts.

KW isn't committing to much here, if he shows well he'll be a key cog in a bullpen that needed lots of help last year. He knows Matt Thornton very well and having a familiar face on the team could be plus in getting him started off in a positive direction.

Kenny got the man who i wanted today in Juan Pierre and I couldn't be happier as a sox fan. On top of it the Dodgers are paying most of the salary. We truly do have a leadoff hitter in him as well and does NOT strike out much. Sign Vlad and I say were a lock for the Central.

... Im a HUGE Kenny Williams fan. He is signing guys not committing big $$$ and hoping to find a winner. I like the signings/deals. I think he gets "lucky" again and puts a playoff team out there in 2010. You get to the playoffs anything can happen.....

haha....my last post in this thread was foreshadowing. I like this move. I understand that Juan Pierre isn't the best player, the best lead off guy, and a mediocre defender. However, he is at least a decent person to fill in the position and a GREAT value considering the low grade prospects and the amount of money the dodgers are eating. I like this move a lot and am really liking how the lineup is coming together

I agree this may not be the best team in the AL, but it certainly is coming together to be an interesting team. When I first heard about the Pierre move, I cringed at the financial commitment, but then when word came out about how Dodgers were picking up about half his contract, that really turns this deal around in my eyes. Still would like to see a little more offensive fire power, but if the pitching staff lives up close to expectations that should be enough to win the division. Looking far ahead, it is just Minnesota and the White Sox right now. Detroit has already waived the white flag for the year and Cleveland and KC are far too weak to compete this year.

When you have two studs like Caberea/Verlander and Mourneu/Mauer there never is a white flag. Caberea can carry a team for a while like he did in Florida. Never can you look past your oppenents in baseball, especially the way highly touted rookies come in and play like they are seasoned vets, which Detriot got one in the trade of Granderson.

I just cannot see Detroit competing with Minnesota and Chicago this year. Detroit has taken some major backwards steps. They have spent a lot of bad money recently and its catching up with them now.
