I disagree. As long as mom continues to push her family out in front of the press, all the family becomes public figures. If Palin wants her kids to not be public figures then don't put them out in front of the cameras.
The Clinton's and the Carter's kept their kids out of the public view until they were older. Palin uses the family as pawns in the political chess match.
Plus the Palin family isn't a good example of family values.

So if you're the Governor of Alaska (a small state) and you go to NY for charity fund raiser on Downs Kids, you must leave your own kids at home, otherwise you're just parading them in front of the press? Take your daughter to a baseball game...............Shame on you Sarah Palin. You should have known the dying press, and a piece of chit like Letterman would try and make light of you and your daughter at a baseball game.

I am on record as saying Lettermen's attempt at humor at expense of Palin's daughter crossed the line for me. The ensuing debate over it, including this thread, is a bit much too.

Your amnesia is at fault here. JFK tried to use Caroline and John Jr. in photo-ops. But only when Jackie was out of town. Amy Carter was pictured rarely and usually in more formal situations. They weren't pursued by paparazzi, that was a different time. The Clinton's tried to keep the press from their daughter until Hillary ran for president.
You are applying 21st press tactics to the 20th century events. The culture was different then.

Wishful thinking. The NY Times, whose stock is totally in the tank, recently took out a 250 million dollar loan from a foreign source at 10% interest. Banks see them as toxic.
You're right, they can sell ads online easier than in the paper. BECAUSE THEY'RE ABOUT A THIRD THE RATE (see dwindling profit margins). Ask Jane homemaker if she likes cutting a coupon out of the paper more than she does finding it on the net, printing it off, and then cutting it out.

:ncaabbs: Absolutely. And that's one of the reasons why she draws such ire from people. She's an opportunist who uses her kids to her own advantage, then screams bloody murder whenever they're talked about. Can't have it both ways, sweetie. Unfortunately, anyone in the public eye takes the chance that their family will be discussed. It's part of the deal. Not always fair, but that's the way it goes. And anyone in the public eye who has common sense would minimize the exposure of their children.
I'm not justifying Letterman's joke (if it WAS his - he has writers who come up with most of those Top Ten jokes.) There was no excuse for mentioning the 14 year old in this kind of humor. From what I saw last night on cable news, Letterman thought he was referring to Bristol, but instead mentioned Willow's age by mistake.
Bristol is of age.
But anyway.......just curious how many are scrambling to A- Rod's defense. This WAS a baseball joke, after all. And it was directed at A-Rod, not a Palin.

You don't like Letterman, the media (except FOX, Rush, etc.) is all against everything you believe in...we got it long time ago.
Heck, I watched Leno rather than Letterman when I could stay up long enough to choose.
But Letterman is a comedian, like him or not. Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, etc. are supposedly "political analysts and commentators" that purport to tell the truth about the world we live in, and spew venom every day.
What happened to George H.W. Bush's "kindler, gentler America"? The right-wing, conservative Republican agenda got in the way, and caused the predictable backlash.
And, if it's me...my 14-year old daughter either hears nothing about this, or has been taught about how to handle it. That's what parents are for, public figures or not.

Letterman didn't say Sarah Palin IS a slut - said she had "a slutty flight attendant look."
And also didn't say youngest daughter IS a "whore" (from your topic post) - he said "she got knocked up by A-Rod." Nobody worth listening to would take that seriously any way, especially after his public "Mea Culpa." You do know a whore is a female who gets paid for having sex, don't you?
Your sensationalism does your cred no good except for anybody who has already sold out to you and way of thinking-believing anyway.
And, FYI - autistic kids are different than Downs' Syndrome kids (my wife has taught both).
