New to the 'Pound'...just found the site. ISU grad (I don't do 1AA football) but married to a Northern girl.

First started following the Huskies in '99 when taking a few extra classes at NIU. Followed them the best I could from my Peace Corps assignment in the Western Pacific (Truk Lagoon 2002-2004). Could wait every week for ESPN to list the top ten 'Mid-Major' programs.

For the Alabama game, I broke into (with beer) the Peace Corps lounge (early Sunday morning my time) with another PCV ('Bama grad) and watched the play-by-play on the 'net...I still remember when the game ended and my partner crime what ape-crazy because it was over and 'Bama lost...priceless!!!!

Been a HASF member since '09 and can't wait for the Toledo game on the 14th....

I've been on the board a couple weeks but haven't really introduced myself. I'm a current senior here at NIU, majoring in Finance. Been a fan of the university and Huskie athletics since 2001 when my oldest brother went here. Both of my brothers attended, one a proud alum, the other pursued the military after one year. I was there for the 2003 Iowa St win, which fueled my fire for NIU even more. I one day hope to be a big time donor to the university. Luckily, people thought my degree from here is quite a catch and I received an accounting consulting gig down in Dallas upon graduation.

Wow... A current student that is a fan... Those are hard to come by these days.
I do believe there's some Dallas area folks on this board too

RE: Introduce Yourself Here - ewhite1052 - 11-28-2012 12:18 AM

Long time lurker here... But thought it would be good to introduce myself finally and contribute to this board. :)

Quick Intro:

My father went to NIU, so you can say I've been a HUSKIE fan since birth. I still remember the days of "The Cowboy" just destroying teams (like SIU) and watching closely on NFL draft day, only to be bummed he was a Green Bay Packer! 03-banghead

I attended NIU myself in 1998 and got to watch alot of TERRIBLE football. Luckily things started to pick up...(I was one of the ones that stormed the field and dragged the goalposts into the lagoon after we finally broke the longest losing streak in history. ) and by the time I graduated in 2002, the "rebirth" of NIU football was at hand.

I've been traveling a lot, but have always managed to keep tabs on the Huskies and have attended all of their bowl games over the past few years even being on the west coast.

Anywho.. looking forward to chatting about Huskie football and bringing my perspective on things.

RE: Introduce Yourself Here - Kulz007 - 12-02-2012 04:54 PM

So here I am. Born on the South side of Chicago, NIU graduate of 2003, living in the south in sunny Knoxvile, TN (SEC country). All I have to say is GO Huskies! I was on the 46 yard line when we beat BAMA at BAMA, that was a good year, this is a year of destiny!

Hi,

BS in Accoutancy in 1984 and M.S in Accountancy in 1991. Was an accounting TA while in graduate school. Bartended at McCabes as an undergrad my senior year and at the Paradise Club in 1989 when I returned for my graduate degree. As an undergrat Lived in Grant North (7th floor) and University Plaza North Tower (4th floor I think). Went to quite a few football games in 83-84 and almost all the home games in 89-90. Those were great times and look forward to watching NIU on New Year's.

Karl

From Malaysia! Went to NIU. Class of 08. BSc, Computer Science. Never missed a football home game my entire Junior and Senior year. Fan of the soccer team as well. Currently in Boulder.

RE: Introduce Yourself Here - MommaBear - 12-15-2012 02:58 AM

Just recently found this website.

Graduated from NIU in December, 1979. That was the first year they held a December commencement. Horrible weather that day. Got my degree in Accounting. Lived in Stevenson South (1131) my first year, then moved to Gilbert Hall. So glad they are returning that wonderful building back into a dorm. We have many wonderful memories and friends from Gilbert.

Hubby is also an NIU grad from May, 1980. (I finished up in 3.5 years!) He got his degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. We met during our freshman year when his floor (STS 9th floor) invited my floor to a mixer. That was on November 6, 1976! We got married 4 years later.

Back in the 70's, football was not the best sport on campus. That's why we are so excited this year! We live near Dallas now, and don't get to see too many NIU games on TV, but have watched the MAC Championship for the past 3 years. Have our trip booked to Miami!

We have 3 kids. Oldest one has a degree in Computer Science and Math from UT-Dallas and works for Google. Next one has a degree in General Studies from UL-Lafayette and works for a Law Firm. Our baby is a Senior at Baylor. She is currently their Drum Major, so we have become huge Baylor fans over the past four years. Will be in San Diego the week before the Orange Bowl to cheer for Baylor and our daughter at the Holiday Bowl. She will begin her student teaching next month and graduate in May.

Hubby, myself and our Baylor Bear will all be in Miami cheering on our Huskies in a few weeks. Go Huskies!

RE: Introduce Yourself Here - Victory In View - 12-15-2012 02:58 PM

Finally decided to join up and make a few posts. 2nd Generation Huskie, graduated in 2010. Former captain of the prestigious NIU Ultimate Frisbee team (Go Cornography). Huge Huskie football fan. My dad and I have gone to at least one away game every year since '05 at Michigan Stadium. Attended both MAC Championship wins in Detroit, and my girlfriend (a fellow NIU grad) are booked to cheer on the Huskies in Miami on New Year's day.

Go Huskies!

RE: Introduce Yourself Here - harem - 12-17-2012 03:27 PM

Howdy,
I dont post on this bulletin board all that often but would like to do so. My brother 5 years older preceded me to NIU and so I saw such players as John Spillis an all american end for the huskies and when I was in school Mark Kellar. I remember times of frolic and stupidity when they used to have women carried or passed on to others from the bottom row to the top like races. Pre feminist days I guess. After graduation kind of lost track of NIU football except when they did very well in 1983. Got to see them at Illinois twice where they really had good chance at winning against good Illini teams in 2001 and 2010. While living in Arkansas saw NIU play the razorbacks and had them beat till the officials called penalties I think which meant they did not want to see a nobody team like NIU beat a big name team like Arkansas still it was a 30-27 game. Had an even older brother went to Illinois and remember seeing Dick Butkus play so I have been part of the college football experience a long time. Oh, yes, my brother played on NIU basketball team for Tom Jorgansen.

RE: Introduce Yourself Here - niuguy - 12-18-2012 01:13 AM

My name is niuguy. I enjoy making fun of non-technical old people on the board. I mock their lack of abilities until they leave and never come back. Chances are if you've never created a profile on the boards I'm going to assume that you graduated before 1990, forgot your aol password, and can't complete the registration process.

Thank you.
