Hundreds of college basketball players anxiously awaited the NCAA Tournament bracket announcement Sunday to find out where they would be sent for one of the most exciting sporting events in existence.

Thompson High School senior Brandon Chambers made a selection of his own Sunday. He committed to Kennesaw State University in Georgia, with the hope of one day watching the NCAA Tournament selections and seeing the Owls' place in the bracket.

"It'll be a big jump for me," said Chambers, who will sign with the Atlantic Sun Conference member on April 16. "They bring in players from all over. It's exciting to be able to play Division I basketball."

I have heard good things that Green is ready to go...haven't heard anything on Cummings, but all signs point to both being ready to go next fall.

What is the word on this Chambers kid? Size? Guard? Attributes? Let's get some research here. He isn't listed on any recruiting sites, so I am hoping for another athletic sleeper guard ala Wooten who was WAY overlooked. Don't know anything about this kid, so lets find out...come on students...find the scoop :)

Here is another article mentioning Chambers...article was written in January. Mentions that Georgia State was recruiting him...that is a pretty good sign because Rod Barnes is a pretty good recruiter...good eye for talent. Hopefully we were in a recruiting battle for Chambers and won - that would be a good sign for us.

That'd be great. I know Tony was upset when he lost one last year to GSU

I think it was James Fields wasn't it Nick? I thought I remember reading somewhere that Kennesaw and GSU were recruiting him.

You know. I didn't even really look to see who it was at the time. Don't have the slightest idea.

As for how much recruiting means to a program (makes or breaks) I don't keep up with it as much as others. Now that I'm not around all those guys all the time it also makes it difficult.

I did talk to J-Mack on St Patty's. He was kind of weary about next season but that's just from passing. I have no idea. Obviously, he hasn't seen any of the new recruits really play and he has seen Shaun and Wooten leave.

Here are players that will not be on our team next year.

Alex Cornett
Ryan Daugherty
Keonte Keith
Nick Mattone

I have many sources that have told me this...

I don't doubt we lose a few of those at all. McConnell will be under scholie next year and if we are able to keep Dixon, Green, Cummings and Chambers then it makes pretty good sense. Chambers looks to be a much needed 2 guard, but I know nothing about him.

Hey Kr, have you heard anything new on the Green/Cummings front? Get their ACT's up or are they still in limbo?

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - KennesawBasketball - 03-19-2008 06:43 PM

I heard that Green was good to go, and Cummings was close, and is looking good - but that is unverified...just noise across the chatter lines. I would love to find out more about this Chambers kid.

Thanks KB. Could explain Cornett considering leaving. Lot of traffic at the 5 spot if Green can make it.

I know what I have posted above is accurate but the people I have talked with were unsure of the Green/Cummings thing... but they seemed upbeat. I cannot imagine coach cutting players if he was unsure. I have heard the two guards (Chambers and Spencer) are pretty good. A person who has played with them has told me they are both upgrades talent wise.

Note: Pretty sure the players I have listed have already been informed of their departure.

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - Corn_3024 - 03-19-2008 07:21 PM

Wait, these players were cut?...Or left because of PT etc..? I can't say I blame Ingle for cutting some dead weight.. I've said numerous times the only way we'll get better is getting a talent upgrade. This made this years recruiting process extremely important. The fact that we had only two scholies REALLY worried me about next year but now it seems we may have some room to add some new quality guys. I sure hope so.

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - kr983 - 03-19-2008 07:27 PM

They have had their scholarships taken away and are transferring because of that...

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - Corn_3024 - 03-19-2008 07:36 PM

Understood. I guess Ingle was (obviously) well aware of the struggles that lie ahead next year without an increase in talent. Do you know if it was lack of talent or maybe an attitude problem? I'd say that many players losing scholies means it was prob a talent factor. Thanks for all the info btw.

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - kr983 - 03-19-2008 07:41 PM

Talent and not being able to compete for playing time... is the word i heard.

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - Corn_3024 - 03-19-2008 08:06 PM

Well I believe that means we had/have 6 free scholies now. Ladaris, Cummings, McConnell(believe he was a walk on last year), Dixon, and Chambers are expected to fill 5 of the 6 spots. It'll be interesting to see if we look for another guy or maybe save the scholie for next year. I believe J.D. will be the only senior.

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - Nick M - 03-20-2008 09:11 AM

I hope we are upgrading talent. All signs point to yes (magic 8 ball... haha), but there is that chance. I wanted to see Cornett play in person but guess that's not going to happen.

RE: Looks like another Basketball Recruit commits - wonder what this means for Green - Corn_3024 - 03-20-2008 11:10 AM

I kind of wanted to see Cornett play as well but it was going to be very hard for him to see minutes. He would have been behind Green, Allison, Whipple, Jacobs, and Mitchell. Each of those good would have saw minutes before him imo.
