Not Medved, but from the same site Think your cousin's cute? Relax By John Stossel Wednesday, July 19, 2006 I'd always thought marrying a blood relative as close as a cousin was immoral, and certainly risky if you plan to have kids. Conventional wisdom says only primitive people who live in isolated places marry cousins. It leads to stupid children. But that's a myth. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - GGniner - 03-18-2008 09:53 AM THE NC Herd Fan Wrote:Wrong on Wright: Which Obama is Lying? the Dems are screwed barring major gatekeeper/media covering for Obama with the added help of his political skills. he has the nomination going into the convention. If the Super delegates take away the "Will of the voters" of the First Black Pres. candidate and give it to Hillary or Al Gore instead it will cause a major riot with their base and who knows what else. and Obama can't win even with the assistance of our corrupt media.....can't see blue collar dems, "Lieberman Dems" and "reagan dems" voting for him....much less apolitical moderates. the Dems have done the equivalent of nominating a member of the Westboro Baptist Church of long standing, with Rev. Phelps being the candidates 'spiritual advisor' who married the canidate and baptized his kids.......much less someone who just gave a speech at a place like that, this is a thousand times worse. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - Ninerfan1 - 03-18-2008 11:07 AM Anybody faint at this one? I realize this speech is intended to be his "Ask not what your country can do for you.." moment, and no doubt the media will gush over it. However I think it will do little for him in the end. It's a political speed bump that will be forgotten in time. His policy views are what will ultimately do him in. That is if the voting public can see past the hype and empty rhetoric. I'm not particularly confident in that. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - EastStang - 03-18-2008 02:47 PM I think the problem for Obama is that this has legs with the Reagan Democrats, those blue collar whites, who are the swing voters in America. They are not impacted by white guilt which is what this speech played to. They needed some reason to vote for Obama out of this, and all they got was a speech which told them that race was a problem and they shouldn't have resented affirmative action. The democrats now have themselves as bad a problem as the Republicans. McCain was the hold your nose nominee to conservatives, now the democrats have two hold your nose nominees slugging it out. Unlike the Republicans they can still have a deadlocked convention and end up with a candidate that's not even running now. But that would be suicide. On the other hand there are two very flawed democrats running who may not be able to pull this one out. One thing is for sure, this election is not boring. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - GGniner - 03-18-2008 03:26 PM its not just the blue collar dems...the Jewish Dems and Hispanics are segments that Obama could lose. What he has locked is the hard left and black vote. this preacher is very anti-semitic obviously, allied with nutballs like Faharakan and gives him an award. Travels to Lybia with him to meet Gadafi. Combined with the anti-Israel/Jew sermons we've seen. And Obama doesn't just visit this church or give a speech there, he is a member for over 2 decades, married by this guy, lets his children be baptized by him, donates alot of $$$ to them and gets the title of his book from Wright. politically this is a disaster and his only hope is for the major media to bury it and spin what they have to report and hope it goes away somehow. take all that plus his thin record and Far Left policy positions and it doesn't add up to a winner in the general. my guess is this is Obama's actual Bible he follows: ![]() of course if he was that smart, he wouldn't have been a member to something this politically toxic for so long. He also would've been smart enough to vote little more conservative so he didn't get a Voting ranking to the Left of the Senates Lone admitted Socialist(Sanders). So who knows. How great would it be for Al Gore to come out of the woodwork and make it a 3 way dance at the convention. I think the West Wing's next to last season ended the same way. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - THE NC Herd Fan - 03-18-2008 05:08 PM An Elegant Farce I was explaining the Obama/Wright relationship to my 10 year old son and putting it in simplier terms really gives it prospective. I told him: Obama and Mr. Wright are friends. I don't necessarily think Obama believes everything Mr. Wright does, but it's not 100% clear what Obama believes. If you make a new friend and instantly hit it off you may start hanging out together more. When you do that you start to notice things your friend says or does that make you uncomfortable. As you notice this more and more you start hanging out with other people and gradually lose contact with the friend that makes you uncomfortable. Everyone wants to know why Obama still calls Mr. Wright a close friend. So don't most people drift away from friends that say things they strongly disagree with, especially if what they say makes them feel uncomfortable? ![]() I seriously doubt that Mr. Wright only spoke his controversial views once or twice. If there are other recorded sermons out there with more hate speech Obama is sunk for sure. The bigger question is, doesn't Mr. Wright's rhetoric make Obama uncomfortable? If so why would he continue to call him a close friend? Maybe Obama isn't as uncomfortable as some want him to be. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - WoodlandsOwl - 03-18-2008 05:52 PM I saw some big problems with the address.. When it takes 7 minutes to get the to heart of the issue, its bad. His treatment of the Rev. Wright issue is not credible. Obama didn't catagorically denounce what Wright said, he merely tried to justify and "explain" it as a "black thing" and basically said that people "racially repressed" over the years think like Wright.... He said that he could not disown Rev. Wright. He is a member of his family, just like grandma. He even admitted being in church when Wright made controversial statements... There must be a really bad YouTube about to hit with Barry in the picture.. Obama didn't do anything to reassure the Jewish voters.... Hillary can run a mile with this.... In my opinion, Obama didn't settle any issues with this address... instead he stepped on one of these... and its going to blow up in his face..

Better schools for the kids. Better infrustructure to keep moving the country forward. Get out of Iraq and fight in Afghanistan where the real Al Queda threat was. But you are right. The public wants to hear more of the same that got us in this position. 100 more years of Iraq, more tax cuts for the rich, more tired topics like gays and abortion, bomb Iran, complain about illegal aliens instead of doing anything about it. In other words, he is Bush. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - RobertN - 03-18-2008 06:03 PM THE NC Herd Fan Wrote:An Elegant FarceI can understand where you are coming from. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - Ninerfan1 - 03-18-2008 07:43 PM [quote=RobertN] Quote:His policy views to get everyone health care that wants it. That is not a policy, it is a goal a policy is designed to achieve. A policy is how you structure it, how you institute it and how you pay for it. Same goes for the rest of the tripe you posted. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - I45owl - 03-19-2008 02:12 PM Something that I haven't seen discussed yet is that this puts Michelle Obama's "for the first time in my life" comment in some perspective. That comment plus what are more like red herrings - Obama's refusal to wear a flag lapel pin, the images of Obama with his hands at his sides during the Star Spangled Banner - all lead to a troubling issues of perception for Obama. Should the super-delegates see this as reason for a palace coup during the DNC, this could all get very ugly. The only graceful solution could be for Obama to withdraw. Will this truly be the first time that an African American candidate in a national race was truly held accountable for a controversial association? I don't think that Jesse Jackson (Hymietown, Farrakhan) or Al Sharpton (can't remember what beyond Tawana Brawley, but I know he's done some stupid things) ever did anything substantial in reaction to those controversies. If that were to happen, I think that there would be substantial outcries of racism and a substantial portion of the (mostly) far-left that would be outraged. I don't see any of this as being good for the country (just as I don't see an Obama presidency as being good for the country). To date, I haven't taken this issue seriously, but I'm starting to think it could wind up being extremely divisive. RE: The Problem with Obama's Explanation - NIU007 - 03-19-2008 04:27 PM I missed Obama's speech - is that on Youtube? Anyway, regarding Michelle Obama's comment, I was thinking the same thing - kind of gives you some context for that. But I don't care if Obama has his hands at his side during the national anthem. And I don't think he should withdraw. But any opposing candidate will keep this issue in the forefront so people won't forget it. It was already going to be tough to beat McCain without something like this. |
