[/quote] Please.... As much as I don't like Rudy, he is no where near as scary as Hilary. Maybe the only close comparison would be Cheney.... RE: 9-11 Man! - T-Monay820 - 12-05-2007 12:40 AM I've already made up my mind to vote for Giuliani. After reading his book on leadership, it sealed the deal. He has an appendix full of accomplishments in NYC, a city he turned around in a decade. His leadership pillars are sound, and I believe him to be a strong leader. Addtionally, (playing devil's advocated) even if he doesn't truly believe in what he wrote about in his book, he does have proven results. Like I said, look at what he's done with New York. He drove the crime rate down by 57% but you wouldn't consider NYC a police state/city. He uses accountability instead of sheer numbers. You can increase the number of cops or laws meant to protect citizens, but that doesn't mean that your safety will increase. Instead, he would make sure that those who are put into those positions of authority do their jobs, and if they don't, then he put their feet to the fire and finds out why they aren't doing their job. If it is truly a personnel problem, he fixes that. But if its negligence, then the person can either fix their problems or find a new job. RE: 9-11 Man! - mlb - 12-05-2007 08:52 PM At this moment I like Huckabee... although I'm not against Rudy. He is probably my 2nd choice. I've seen charts that show the crime rates in Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles dropping about as much as in New York. Also, the crime rates started dropping in New York before Giuliani was mayor, and have continued under Bloomberg. I think it's mostly the economy. Bloomberg held on to this Giuliani brainchild. In 2001, Chicago had 20 more murders than NYC. NYC had 8 million people, Chicago had 2.9 mill. Boston had a rise in murders of 67%, 9% in LA, Chicago 5%. NYC fell by 7.6%. If you want to credit the economy, it was Guiliani's policies that saved the economy. Reduction in the hotel tax. Cleaning up Times Square and encouraging businesses to return. He eliminated or reduced 23 city taxes. Reduced the sales tax. NYC had been given up for dead in the early 90's. Giuliani's leadership brought it back to what it had been. Time wrote a cover story about its fall into decline: http://broadcatching.wordpress.com/2007/09/06/the-rotting-of-the-big-apple-september-1990/ RE: 9-11 Man! - blah - 12-07-2007 10:36 AM georgia_tech_swagger Wrote:mlb Wrote:At this moment I like Huckabee... although I'm not against Rudy. A rapist, who was castrated by prisoners, was paroled while he was governor. The rapist then killed a woman in Missouri. They're trying to say he had some influence over his parole. As for taxes, that is being addressed. Many people are smearing him on his record, but a lot of it seems to be embellished by his detractors, and one tax they're trying to attribute to him was made mandatory by the court system. Seriously, the bad thing about Huckabee is that Bill and Hillary KNOW his weak spots inside out and backwards, not to mention the other dirt he probably has on him. Remember he is from Arkansas-- the poster state for corrupt politics. But keep in mind that it is from the Post. The thing for me is more Guiliani's leadership style. From what I've read, its that he sounds like he has far stronger leadership foundations than the others. Like the article ends, its not whether crime fell or not, but how much of an impact he had (of which I believe to be huge). Additionally I've found he's one of the more amiable candidates when speaking. I also think he's a no non-sense New Yorker. If you read the article from Time, you can get a sense of the hopelessness in NYC prior to 1993. Go to NY now and you would get a nearly 180 degree opinion. RE: 9-11 Man! - TOGC - 12-08-2007 11:52 PM Yep, nothing like Rudy the pro-choice, pro-same sex marriage, crossdressing adulterer. ![]() Yep, that's a leader. RE: 9-11 Man! - mlb - 12-09-2007 05:00 PM Being that I'm pro-choice and pro-gay rights, he fits with me. Doesn't mean that I would have an abortion, or that I am gay, but I believe other should have their own choice. They have to meet their maker at some point, and answer to any actions they did in their lifetime. |
