I was sitting in the student section in the very first row right behind the Nevada bench today. Me and a few students sitting next to me were ribbing the guys. Especially the kickers. There was no personal attacks and the Nevada players even laughed.

My favorite was what the guy next to me told the Nevada punter. He had his sock pulled down over his shoe so the guy next to me yelled out, "Hey number 69 did your boyfriend teach you that sock trick?"

There was a lot of joking around. When Nevada had a 1st and goal one of the Nevada players on the sideline said to my group, "Hey watch this touchdown." Sure enough Nevada scored on that play.

The punter even told us if we were not talking to him he would have been really bored. The guy next to me responded that he would be bored too if he had to watch the game. lol

Since Nevada already played San Jose State and we have them next week I asked the Nevada punter how good San Jose State is. I believe he told me if you lose to them you are really pathetic.

 Another funny thing was when the guy next to me was making fun of a goofy looking Nevada player. He said, "Hey number 40 good thing prostitution in Nevada is legal or you would never get any action." The people around us even the Nevada players laughed.

During timeouts when the cheerleaders were stunting and a few players were looking at them the guy next to me would be telling them to quit checking out the cheerleaders.

There were comments like, "What does Reno stand for?" and "You guys must be ashamed you are from Nevada." Then the players responded, "At least I am not from New Mexico." Then after that I yelled out, "I think we can all be happy we are all not from El Paso."

After that everyone, including the Nevada players laughed.

I hope to do the same with Utah State. The Idaho kicker was a real prude.

Probably helped the team was winning but the entire attitude of the team has changed in a few years. I think they were just having some fun with you like you were with them. Good luck though in the coming years. I think you have some players in place right now but I think the one big thing you need is a QB.

Not saying the ones you have are bad but to me they don't fit the system that well.

We have two number 40s, but I'm guessing it was probably Barcia since he's a kicker.. I'll say "ouch" for Thomas..

I think you got him with that question. The Nevada punter, in essence, is saying his team ain't all that great because they nearly lost to SJSU, right? 04-cheers

Number 40 was probably a kicker. Me and my group were sitting right behind the net the kickers use to practice and that is where they seem to hang out. Kickers all over the nation always gather around those nets. It is like how bugs always gather around lights at night.

I should have asked him about Utah State too. Maybe I can ask Utah State's punter if he will just let the ball go through his hands so the Aggies can recover it in the endzone.

I don't see why he wouldn't, provided you ask nicely!

Why is it that kickers get a net thing to practice in? Why don't they have a big guy in pads that stands around on the sidelines that defensive players can just run up to and tackle to help them warm up before going on the field? Or someone that just chases the RB around on the sidelines? They could even have a warm up coach that hangs out in the luxury box that the AD can start firing at halftime when things are going bad?

I started following the kickers example a few years ago at work. I now have a couple fake spreadsheets that I look over before taking a look at the real thing. I also have a phone off to the side that's not plugged into anything that I can use to prepare before big conference calls.
I'm always the first guy back from lunch so I can get a few more practice spreadsheet work in.

You're that guy!!!! Why do I feel like I should have known that?!?!

You do know the boss expects that from everyone now, don't you?

Jerk!!!

- Slapdad - 11-15-2005 12:37 PM

CLP, he's only setting himself up for failure. Even though he's not required to be the first one back from lunch, it's now become expected of him and when the day comes that he is NOT the first one back.....even though he may be back within an hour.....the boss will think he's slacking. I've learned that the following equation applies in business (and in life in general).

Success = expectations - performance

If you set the bar too high, no matter how well you perform, you will probably fail. Your method of continually setting the bar as low as possible means that the least bit of work will ensure that you exceed expectations. You are the smart one here my friend. Keep on keepin' on!

That's a relief, because I've exceeded expectations twice already today! :D

It's no problem at all clpack. Sitting around waiting for the mailman to come doesn't cut into my regular duties at all.

Thanks! You da man! Don't worry about the photocopies. Supposedly they need them for the 1PM meeting, but that really means they need them by 3PM...or 4:45PM...or tomorrow...or maybe not at all...so I'm all over that.

Hey clpack, don't worry about not coming back to work after lunch today. Nobody noticed.

I guess that's an improvement over the time I DID come back from lunch....and nobody noticed. 03-razz
