GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - Machiavelli - 06-11-2007 08:40 AM Besides his partisan Supreme Court nominees that will try to reverse Roe vs. Wade and his tax cuts that have left our treasuries so deep in the red that our grandchildren's grandchildren will be paying them off what other accomplishments can the Big Red Machine take credit for. Let's partake in the litany of accomplishments in his 7 years. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - GrayBeard - 06-11-2007 08:44 AM Ooh, Ooh, he helped Israel give some land away to the Palestinians....Oh wait, that was a idiotic thing. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - 1125 - 06-11-2007 09:27 AM Ohh no, Bush gave tax cuts to get us out of a coming recession that was coming soon after the Clinton administration and after 9/11...Ohh no's. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - GGniner - 06-11-2007 09:33 AM the deficit has been cut in half over the last year, the largest tax receipts in history have just come in the door. All thanks to the stimulation of the economy, tax cuts. This after the recession that started at the end of 2000 and was escalated by the 9/11 attacks which put a Trillion dollar hit on the economy. put the tax rat at 99% and the govt. would take in zero in income tax receipts, because nobody would work with the govt. stealing it all. put the tax rate at 0% and the same happens, obviously. the key is to find the optimum rate in between, each time they cut rates yet get more than projected in revenues is a sign they didn't cut them enough. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - Rebel - 06-11-2007 09:57 AM Bush had the balls to actually wage a war with Islamic fundamentalists....something they were already participating in. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - Lethemeul - 06-11-2007 09:59 AM I think the morning baby punting, puppies for lunch, and evening old people pinata game is pretty cool. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - mlb - 06-11-2007 10:00 AM I do think Bush's tax cuts helped stimulate the economy. The true deficit (when done with corporate accounting instead of government accounting) shows a much bigger deficit than what we see. Of course, it showed this when Clinton was in office as well. I'm very concerned about the retirement of the baby boomers and how our country will pay for it. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - GGniner - 06-11-2007 10:12 AM mlb Wrote:I'm very concerned about the retirement of the baby boomers and how our country will pay for it. its called Amnesty, unfortunately. and much of latin america is socialist or socialist/leaning, not to mentioning allying with Iran/islamist(see Chavez, Noreaga and Castro). this is the problem of the nanny state, look what happened when W tried a reasonable Soc. Security reform, a republican congress/senate had it Dead on arrival. As long as the Dem party is socialist, they aren't going to touch the big entitlements in any real way, old people vote and when the opposite party of reform tell them that the republicans or whoever are going to take their medicare or some other bs. from them they tend to get scared and beleive it. so, we have our pathetic political class trying to give amnesty to illegals. They should also be trying to reduce taxes more and encourage more a middle class baby boom, I think it says alot about our culture it didn't happen in the wake of 9/11 the way it did in the wake of WW2. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - Machiavelli - 06-11-2007 10:47 AM Besides his tax cuts and his court nominees.......................... What are his crowning achievements????? I would have to agree with Reb, "W's butt thumpin foreign policy has been great". It was well thought out and it's just about stamped out Al-quadea. I'm aware of the few dead enders out there, but we might have to wait a little while for W to put a boot up their ass. Come on people.... we have to have more than his stellar foreign policy to trumpet. I'm starting to warm up to W's administartion. I'm having an argument with this limp wristed librul and I need some help. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - DrTorch - 06-11-2007 11:02 AM Machiavelli Wrote:Besides his tax cuts and his court nominees.......................... Getting rid of the ABM treaty was good. The tax cuts were good, your comments about the treasury again show bias instead of the objective observations and evaluations that real scientists use. Funny to hear people ***** about his SC nominations, especially someone who argues for the Constitution so much and who says he knows so much about science, but can't seem to find a consistent definition of human life. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - blah - 06-11-2007 11:55 AM Machiavelli Wrote:Besides his tax cuts and his court nominees.......................... I know GWB has been the worst president of all time and all, but I was just thinking you should ask the same questions about "The greatest democratic president of all time" William Jefferson Clinton. Besides getting oral sex from an intern and lying about it, what were his crowning achievements? RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - Machiavelli - 06-11-2007 11:59 AM Blah, These Libruls are getting used to the blame Clinton or the "at least he didn't get a bj" argument we've been coming up with. I need some ammo man. Every President we have had or will have are going to have major short comings, guess what they are human. That is why the executive branch should have limited powers as outlined in the constitution. That is why we are a federal republic, and have a legislature and check and balances. Presidents from both parties have been equally bad and good, it just depend on the issues that are important to you. I would say its been down hill for the last 42 presidents we have had. I think Blah's post was tongue in cheek. Just about everything Mach hates about Bush, I like. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - Machiavelli - 06-11-2007 12:10 PM Great President or our Greatest.................... Where's the Hate???????????????????? RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - Ninerfan1 - 06-11-2007 01:54 PM Gone are the days when a president will ever again be known as great. The political environment is far too poisoned now. Reagan by any objective measure was a great President. Yet the left in this country has tried to dismantle his legacy at every turn. To be a great president you have to have faced a great challenge and faced it well. Wilson in WWI, FDR and Truman in WWII, though the country hated Truman by the time he left office. People call JFK great though he did nothing to earn it. Bush is a mixed bag. His national defense policy and standing up to terrorists will eventually show him as a resolute leader and a visionary, that is until libs take over, turn our country over to Islamo Facists and they write the history from then on. [/sarcasm] His domestic policies are a travesty other than the tax cuts. Those brought us out of a recession and kept the country going after 9/11. Those that argue otherwise have no grasp of economics. In the end he won't be great, but he won't be awful. He won't be the best, but he won't be the worst. At most you can say "meh, he was ok." RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - GGniner - 06-11-2007 02:09 PM if 70 years from now, awhile atleast, the Middle east is prosperous and many countries are democratic if not most and not supporting terrorism he will go down as top tier......this is a long shot, otherwise average for atleast trying......of course if the modern left is still around then and controling most media they will find some other source that started this movement......the world is probably headed toward a new dark ages though. allying us with India I think may produce big dividends down the road, especially with demographic trends and the way the world is shaping up. I think it was a long-term visionary type move. the "big" govt. stuff on domestic side was pragmatic conservatism, in my opinion. i.e. accepting that they can't politically reduce or get rid alot of the programs that have problems so trying to take them on and throw some conservative principles in them. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - GGniner - 06-11-2007 02:10 PM oh, if you wont' the president to really be able to make some changes call your congressman and tell them to give the President the line item veto. this isn't likely because it takes power/pork away from congress RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - blah - 06-11-2007 03:09 PM I agree with Ninerfan. I think it will be tough to ever have a "great" president again. I think the best way to be viewed as a great president would be to die in office. Worked for JFK and FDR. Looking back through history, FDR was probably the worst president ever, yet he is revered as one of the greats. Shows how easily the masses are tricked. (As a side note, I wonder if a crippled man could win or exude strength in this age of T.V.?) I would like to think so, but apparently FDR had his reservations and did a very good job of concealing it. RE: GWB- Great Pres. or our Greatest President - ShoreBuc - 06-11-2007 04:31 PM Machiavelli Wrote:Blah, Honest answer is of course tax cuts that helped save the economy in the post 9/11 world where we saw over $1 Trillion in assets disappear from the our economy. What is forgotten by some is the support President Bush showed in getting the Sarbanes-Oxley Act passed. Sarbanes-Oxley was much needed after the corporate malfeasance cases of World Com, Tyco, Enron etc.. By signing the act into law President Bush helped reestablish credibility to the market and the values of the companies being publicly traded. Since the passage of SARBOX my wife has had to sign off on every period, quarter and yearly financial report. We have the auditors down here from corporate this week and is the closest thing to a full body cavity search. Just five years ago our accounting was not nearly this tough. It is a good thing because it makes the numbers and financial filings of large corporations much more accurate and gives the average investor a more legitimate snap shot when purchasing stock. It also puts all CEO's arses in a sling and they can no longer claim ignorant bliss to the numbers of their company. Should of been done during the wild wild west days of the raging 90's where book cooking ran rampant. |
