- flyingswoosh - 12-16-2004 11:26 PM i'm pretty bored right now,a nd predictions are always a good source of fun. i know all of the wheeling and dealing is not even close to over, but i thought i'd do it anyway. feel free to add your predictions as well. AL East: 1) yankees- 2) red sox 3) jays 4) orioles 5) rays AL Central 1) twins 2) indians 3) sox- i love this bullpen, with takatsu, hermanson and marte 4) tigers 5) royals AL West 1) angels 2) rangers 3) A's 4) mariners NL East 1) braves 2) mets 3) marlins 4) phillies 5) nationals NL Central 1) astros 2) cardinals 3) cubs 4) brewers 5) reds 6) pirates NL West 1) giants 2) d-backs 3) padres 4) dodgers 5) rockies - GDawgs88 - 12-16-2004 11:29 PM Man, I can't even begin to start making predictions. I like to be able to see a team's roster in front of me before I can do predictions. I'd probably forget some the teams that picked up free-agents. But, I do think you're picks are probably pretty accurate. - flyingswoosh - 12-16-2004 11:33 PM GDawgs88 Wrote:Man, I can't even begin to start making predictions. Just wondering... - flyingswoosh - 12-16-2004 11:44 PM GDawgs88 Wrote:So did you do these picks assuming that those guys will leave their respective teams? Just wondering...no, i did not factor any of the current free agents into those picks. - flyingswoosh - 01-11-2005 10:59 PM okay, i'm sick of waiting, here are my predictions: AL East: 1) Red Sox- i am in awe of the way francona was able to make the sox a team, unlike their rival. also, edgar renteria is the most clutch player in baseball. if wade miller is healthy the sox have themselves a great #2. which would make wells and arroyo the 3 and 4. 2) yankees- adding johnson will take stress off the bullpen, but they have way too many holes to have a great shot at being east champs. 3) Orioles- even without maggs, they have a better team than the jays. and, miguel tejada is one of the few players who can carry a team. 4) D-rays- i'm going to take a shot, and say these guys will have a good enough sense of team to get out of the cellar. 5) Blue Jays- they will lose delgado, and the fact remains that pitchers in the skydome can't stay consistent if they have to carry the load. AL Central: 1) Twins- they have the best 1-2 combo in baseball. 'Nuff said 2) Indians- they only got this because the white sox lost carlos lee, and will lose maggs. 3) Tigers- they will have much improved starting pitching, now that bonderman is a year older. don't be surprised if they scrap a second or third in this division. 4) White Sox- they have a much better bullpen than the indians, but losing 2 of their top 3 hitters is a large obstacle. 5) Royals- LOL! AL West: 1) Angels: Adding the slick fielders, cabrera and finley, were great moves, and should help the pitching enormously. 2) Rangers: This was a tough call, but i think their young staff combined with buck's managerial skills will put them in 2nd. 3) A's- billy Beane can overcome everything except for the loss of his best 2 pitchers. although, jason kendall will shine. 4) mariners- 2 awesome hitters who are great fielders too, will not be enough to beat out any of the other 3 teams. this division will have 4 good/great records. NL East (this one is the most difficult): 1) Braves- cox and mazzone 2) Marlins- this staff is tough when healthy. Player to watch: AJ Burnett 3) mets- beltran can carry a team, and the braves don't have anyone who can do that. rick peterson is an excellent pitching coach. don't be surprised if the mets take this division 4) Phillies- what a crappy franchise. sorry mr. wade, but i don't think jon lieber is going to put you over the top. 5) nationals- maybe we will be seeing some of their top prospects, like everts and broadway. NL Central: 1) Cardinals- i know they lost womack, renteria, williams and calero, but i think they will win with a combination of mulder and chokers (cubs). 2) Cubs- when healthy, these guys have the most talented staff since maddux, glavine, smoltz, avery and neagle, but losing alou will take it's toll. dusty will be fired after the season. 3) brewers- carlos lee is an excellent hitter, and a leader. combine that with a few things- a great manager, a great pitching coach, a talented young staff, and the emergence of jose capellan , which would create a 1-2 of sheets and capellan. can you say high 90's heaters? 4) astros- beltran, kent, miller and possibly clemens. those are big losses. add berkman's injury to that, and you have a team with a complete lack of talent. 5) reds- god, i hate this team. they just piss me off. but seriously, they have no pitching, and i think wily mo pena has a long way to go. 6) pirates- you know why they are here. i mean, c'mon, jason kendall was the heart and soul of the team. but i just want to say this: oliver perez is one of the best 5 lefties in baseball. and i assume that most of you didn't know that bonds said he would great (story at the bottom). NL West (my favorite): 1) Giants- they got, benitez, alou, vizquel, and matheny for $55 million. i'd say brian sabean is pretty smart. Look out for: pedro Feliz. he will hit 30 homers. 2) Padres- lost david wells and got woody williams. that's virtually a toss up. Look out for: Jake Peavy. i know that he's already great, but now that he's healthy, he will be able to dominate for a whole season. 3) Dodgers- 4 years, $36 million, for... derek lowe? what the hell are they thinking. beltre was their team last year. good luck without him. go to hell dodgers :chair: 4) D-backs- i almost gave them the 32 slot, but they just aren't very balanced. 5) Rockies- like a broken record. NLDS- Giants vs. Marlins: giants win (in 5) NLDS- Braves vs. cardinals: braves win ALDS- Red Sox vs. Twins: sox win ALDS- yankees vs. Angels: angels win NLCS: Giants vs. Braves: giants win ALCS: Sox vs. Angels: sox win WS: Giants vs. red Sox: sox win NL MVP: Bonds NL Cy Young: Zambrano NL ROY: Jose Capellan AL MVP: Vlad the impaler AL Cy Young: Santana AL ROY: either McPherson or felix hernandez (mariners). BTW, watch out for hernandez. he's only 19, so he might not be up this season. but he has 4 pitches all of them ranking at least 65 on the 20-80 scouting scale. some say his slider is his second best pitch (next to his mid/high 90's fastball) and they didn't even let him throw it in games last season, because they didn't want to hurt his arm. As for the bonds story. a few seasons ago, bonds faced oliver perez, and after the game, bonds said that perez was one of the best young pitchers he'd seen in baseball. keep in mind, this was before perez was even close to being any good. obviously, the padres didn't even know. - JFlight21 - 01-12-2005 11:35 AM flyingswoosh Wrote:5) reds- god, i hate this team. they just piss me off. but seriously, they have no pitching, and i think wily mo pena has a long way to go.That was nice of you  , the pitching is better than last year. The freaking Brewers before them  Some of your predictions are decent, why the Cardinals in first??? Cubs are a lot better, if Prior and Wood can stay healthy they are easily the best team in baseball. Also, the Yankees are much better than the Red Sox, the Sox lost Pedro and Derek Lowe, the Yankees got Wright and Johnson. Great picks, though IMO. - GDawgs88 - 01-12-2005 02:56 PM I'm gonna wait until Sprin Training when everyone is signed to do my picks. I will gaurantee one thing, though - the Mets will be out of contention by July. :D - flyingswoosh - 01-12-2005 05:30 PM JFlight21 Wrote:who said i was supposed to be nice?flyingswoosh Wrote:5) reds- god, i hate this team. they just piss me off. but seriously, they have no pitching, and i think wily mo pena has a long way to go.That was nice of you  , the pitching is better than last year. Also, the Yankees are much better than the Red Sox, the Sox lost Pedro and Derek Lowe, the Yankees got Wright and Johnson. Great picks, though IMO. the pitching is better than last year, but it's still terrible. yes, the brewers are better. their pitching is a lot better, and so are there coaches. also, the brewers will have some rookies with big seasons. as for the cardinals. well, they now have an ace, and they have better hitting than the cubs and a better bullpen. they also have better fielding. lastly, please do not try to debate with me if you haven't done any research, which is obviously the case. i say this, because it seems like you haven't recognized that the red sox signed renteria, wells, clement and wade miller. the sox have upgraded their team by getting a clutch pitcher, a pitcher with a lot of talent, and a pitcher who, if healthy, is excellent. and renteria, is one of the top 3 SS in the game. the sox have no holes on their team, which is contrary to the yankees who have a whole in center, possibly at first, and most likely at second. also, why is jaret wright so good? he's had one good year since 1997, and last season ended with a poor playoff performance. - JFlight21 - 01-12-2005 06:46 PM Renteria is a good player, but you have to take into account, that he had Edmonds, Pujols and Rolen in the lineup protecting him. Also, IMO Clement, Wade Miller and Wells don't really make up for losing Pedro and Lowe. You talk about Wells being a clutch pitcher, how about Lowe?? He was exceptionally in the playoffs. So Lowe and Wells are basically a wash, the Sox possibly made a slight downgrade. Also, I would easily take Pedro over a duo of Wade Miller and Clement. The Yankees have a hole in center??? Granted Bernie Williams isn't the type of player he used to be, he is still a rock solid player that will give you 20 homers 70-80 rbi's. Your telling me not to debate because I haven't done, according to you, much research??? "5) reds- god, i hate this team. they just piss me off. but seriously, they have no pitching, and i think wily mo pena has a long way to go." Doesn't look you put much research in there. - flyingswoosh - 01-12-2005 07:48 PM JFlight21 Wrote:Renteria is a good player, but you have to take into account, that he had Edmonds, Pujols and Rolen in the lineup protecting him. Granted Bernie Williams isn't the type of player he used to be, he is still a rock solid player that will give you 20 homers 70-80 rbi's.what are you smoking? renteria is one of the best fielding SS in the game and he is a career .290 hitter. he also, won a WS and is obviously super clutch, as i have mentioned. now on to the pitchers. do not compare lowe and wells. lowe is a bum. did you check out his ERA last season? how about the year before? not too impressive. also, don't think lowe is a clutch pitcher just because he had one good postseason. wells has had many good postseasons. wells is obviously a much better pitcher. in fact, it isn't even close. secondly, if wade miller is healthy, he is better than pedro was last season. clement has electric stuff and arroyo had the 11th best ERA in the AL. the red sox have a better rotation than they had last year. if you haven't noticed, bernie williams is finished. a) he can't stay healthy, because his legs are falling apart b) in '03 and '04 combined, he has 37 HR's, 134 RBI and his hitting .263. c) he can't field. he could never really field, but his legs always made up for it. now that his legs are shot, he has no range. i don't need research, if what i'm talking about has nothing to do with stats. you're just pissed off that i hate the reds, but the fact is, that you can't handle that their pitching is still garbage, and wily mo pena can't hit an offspeed pitch, as noah lowry proved when he shutout the reds, by striking out wily mo on a sick changeup to end the game. sorry bro, but i don't need research to state those last few facts. - flyingswoosh - 01-12-2005 07:52 PM see, jflight, the reason that you think lowe is a good pitcher is because you are used to the crap the reds put on the mound. now i understand! - JFlight21 - 01-13-2005 09:19 AM Lowe is a good pitcher, he is a solid #3, like Wells. Bernie had 22 homers last year and 73 rbi's. Yes, he did hit .263 but he is a role player, and a good one at that. A team can't have all stars, you have to have role players. Look at what happened to the Lakers last year, all stars, no role players. Why do you hate the Reds though??? Just curious. - GDawgs88 - 01-13-2005 02:31 PM JFlight21 Wrote:Why do you hate the Reds though??? Just curious.I was wondering that, too. It's not like they're the Giants rivals. - flyingswoosh - 01-13-2005 02:52 PM GDawgs88 Wrote:it's because of their fans. they kepp thinking that their team is so good. they're like hippies. goddamit i hate hippies!JFlight21 Wrote:Why do you hate the Reds though??? Also, bernie used to be extremely clutch, but has been less than mediocre in the past 2. bernie is no longer a role player. why do you think the yankees had kenny lofton? - GDawgs88 - 01-13-2005 03:03 PM flyingswoosh Wrote:Reds fans are great fans. Remember him? He was the DB for the Cowboys who was really mediocre but had a great game in the Super Bowl versus the Steelers and got a huge contract from the Raiders. He never really did anything after that. It's dangerous to throw big bucks at guys because they did great with the whole world watching them. Fortunately for Lowe, he'll be pitching in Dodger Stadium. - JFlight21 - 01-13-2005 04:35 PM Dexter Jackson for Tampa Bay did the same thing. Lowe did have a good year in 2003 though. - flyingswoosh - 01-13-2005 05:23 PM JFlight21 Wrote:Lowe did have a good year in 2003 though.no he didn't. his ERA was 4.47. but he had an amazing year (career year) in 2002. |
