Women's Basketball Picked to Finish Fourth in ACC Preseason Poll
Duke was voted to the No. 1 spot of the nine ACC schools.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State women's basketball was selected to finish fourth overall among the nine teams of the Atlantic Coast Conference this 2002-03 season.

Upon completion of the ACC's media day, the media was polled to rank the nine ACC schools by expected order of finish for the upcoming season. Duke earned 48 votes to finish No. 1 overall. North Carolina was selected for the second spot, while Virginia preceded NC State at No. 3. The fifth spot was taken by Clemson, followed by Georgia Tech and Maryland at the No. 6 and No. 7 spots. Florida State and Wake Forest tied for eighth place to finish out the poll.

In addition, the preseason All-Conference poll was selected, as Duke led the ballot again. The Blue Devils' Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis, along with Coretta Brown of North Carolina, Chrissy Floyd of Clemson and Brandi Teamer of Virginia completed the five-member team. Beard earned her second honor as she was named preseason Player of the Year. La'Tangela Atkinson of North Carolina was selected as the preseason Rookie of the Year.

The ACC kicks off its 2002-03 slate on Jan. 2, with Virginia at Clemson, Florida State at Wake Forest, North Carolina at Georgia Tech and Maryland at NC State. All game times are set for 7 p.m.

Note: Redshirt juniors Kaayla Chones and Terah James, along with junior Nanna Rivers were selected by the Wolfpack Women's basketball team to be the tri-captains of the 2002-03 squad.
