- JoltinJacket - 04-08-2005 09:55 PM The Mets are in a 3 game hole in the division after only 4 games. - techfan4 - 04-08-2005 09:59 PM  And they thought they were going to be good by getting Beltran and Martinez  - JoltinJacket - 04-08-2005 10:06 PM  BTW, wasn't it manly of Tommy G-Note to chicken his way out of this weekend's series? They're having to use a AAA call-up in Glavine's spot for some reason. - flyingswoosh - 04-08-2005 10:44 PM JoltinJacket Wrote::laugh: BTW, wasn't it manly of Tommy G-Note to chicken his way out of this weekend's series? Glavine follows Pedro in the rotation. - flyingswoosh - 04-08-2005 11:45 PM JoltinJacket Wrote:wow! you braves fan's turn sour so quickly. it's really pathetic. he was virtually the biggest reason you guys won your one WS. he threw a 1 hitter against the yankees. he put in a lot ofamazing years, and wanted to get paid what he deserved, but the braves decided to be cheap. how dare you insult tom glavine. you're the kind of crappy fan who boos him when he comes back to atlanta. if i were standing face to face with you right now, i would pull a robby alomar.flyingswoosh Wrote:G-note, as in big money...he passed on loyalty with the Braves to take the big dollars from his old team's biggest rival.JoltinJacket Wrote::laugh: BTW, wasn't it manly of Tommy G-Note to chicken his way out of this weekend's series? While I'm not as bitter at Glavine for leaving as I was for the few months after it happened, I can understand JJ's frustration. We offered him 9 millions dollars for one year in Atlanta in '03. That's a very fair offer. Especially when you consider how bad he was in the playoffs versus the Giants that year. We did not get cheap on him. Schuerholtz did the best he could to keep him with AOL-Time Warner putting him under orders to trim the payroll. Glavine could have taken a little less and shown some loyalty. That did bother me a little bit. But will I ever boo Tom Glavine? Nah, too many good memories he provided for this team. - JoltinJacket - 04-09-2005 01:52 AM GDawgs88 Wrote:I hope that's what happened and not Glavine skipping his spot.JoltinJacket Wrote::laugh: BTW, wasn't it manly of Tommy G-Note to chicken his way out of this weekend's series? I'd never boo him, but as long as he's with the Mets, I might not cheer for him either. OTOH, I WILL cheer for Greg Maddux because he went back to Chicago where his heart his. Answer this for me swoosh...imagine you're a die hard Red Sox fan, and one of your best players has a fair chance to re-sign, but instead takes a little more money to go play for the Yankees. Are you telling me you wouldn't be just a little upset? - techfan4 - 04-09-2005 10:04 AM Well...it would be like Barry Bonds going to the Dodgers next year. - flyingswoosh - 04-09-2005 10:40 AM my problem with you, is not that glavine just played for you guys, it's, he might have been the biggest reason that you won the WS. yet you call him greedy. why? for taking more money? to me, loyalty is the team giving him what he deserved. oh well, that's just me. - flyingswoosh - 04-09-2005 11:14 AM techfan4 Wrote:Well...it would be like Barry Bonds going to the Dodgers next year.would you call the mets and braves a rivalry? and would you put any rivalry (aside from yanks, sox) in the category of dodgers and giants. - flyingswoosh - 04-09-2005 11:16 AM the mets and braves are not rivals. they are 2 teams that happen to be in the same division. - JoltinJacket - 04-09-2005 11:21 AM flyingswoosh Wrote:you call him greedy. why? for taking more money? to me, loyalty is the team giving him what he deserved. oh well, that's just me.The Braves gave him more than a good offer IMO. It was a first a 2 year, $20 million deal, then they upped it to 3 years, $30 million. Instead, Glavine jumped at the 3 year, $35 million that the Mets gave him. Not exactly a big difference, especially considering this was a guy who was the face of the players union in 1994 and kept saying "we don't play for the money." The key really was the Mets offered an option for a 4th year, where the Braves weren't so sure about that (he will turn 41 in that 4th year). - JoltinJacket - 04-09-2005 11:22 AM flyingswoosh Wrote:the mets and braves are not rivals. they are 2 teams that happen to be in the same division. You obviously didn't watch many of their battles between about 1998-2002. They may not be natural rivals, but that turned into a heated rivalry. - flyingswoosh - 04-09-2005 11:25 AM JoltinJacket Wrote:the giants have had heated battles with padres, but they aren't rivals.flyingswoosh Wrote:the mets and braves are not rivals. they are 2 teams that happen to be in the same division. You obviously didn't watch many of their battles between about 1998-2002. You'd have to live through these series year after year to understand. I'd say that anytime a pair of teams each has the other team marked on their schedule, and brings their A game every time they face each other, that qualifies as a rivalry.JoltinJacket Wrote:the giants have had heated battles with padres, but they aren't rivals.flyingswoosh Wrote:the mets and braves are not rivals. they are 2 teams that happen to be in the same division. You obviously didn't watch many of their battles between about 1998-2002. It was a rivalry in 98-02 like JJ said. Maybe a small one now, but come the end of the season, if both the Braves and Mets are at the top, it will be as heated as ever. - GDawgs88 - 04-09-2005 01:16 PM That '99 NLCS was off the chain. We truly were big rivals back then. There was a lot of emotion in that series. The pennant race in 2000 was great. So was 2001 (Brian Jordan!). The rivalry hasn't been the same since the Mets have sucked the last few years, but I'd still say they're our biggest rival. |
