Bears' Wide Receiver Coach former WKU player/assist coach! - galojah - 01-22-2007 10:10 AM Darryl Drake, Wide Receivers coach for the soon-to-be Super Bowl Champions Chicago Bears :) spent quite a bit of time on the Hill. http://www.chicagobears.com/team/coach.asp?coach_id=7 Quote:Drake began his coaching career at Western Kentucky as a graduate assistant coach (1983-84) and spent nine seasons with the Hilltoppers, working with the wide receivers for four seasons (1985-88), the secondary for two years (1989-90) and was the passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach for one season (1991). He starred as a wide receiver for WKU in 1975 and during the 1977-78 seasons. He helped the Hilltoppers to an 8-2 record and the Ohio Valley Conference Championship as a senior and was a member of their 11-2 OVC Championship squad that played in the NCAA Division II Championship game in 1975. Quote:Playing Experience DA BEARS!!!! - Hilltopper2K - 01-22-2007 03:07 PM Maybe if he is part of a super bowl coaching staff he will be a member of the distinguished alumni. Or maybe if we need a head coach (after Elson proves everybody wrong and wins a couple of NO bowls and accepts a higher paying job) he would consider the pay cut??? - KillToppers90 - 01-22-2007 10:11 PM I hear we have a position open for an Offensive coordinator. Think he might want it? - galojah - 01-22-2007 10:46 PM KillToppers90 Wrote:I hear we have a position open for an Offensive coordinator. Think he might want it? You're being funny right? - KillToppers90 - 02-03-2007 08:59 PM galojay Wrote:KillToppers90 Wrote:I hear we have a position open for an Offensive coordinator. Think he might want it? Well a little yeah..... - Big Money G - 02-03-2007 09:50 PM Drake was offered the job when it was open in 2003. The money wasn't close to getting Drake away from a 225k job at Texas and he sure won't come here while making upwards of 500k in the NFL. On a side note, there are a few other former Toppers in the NFL. Rob Ryan is a former Top coach that is the Defensive Coordinator for the Raiders and former assistant Don Martindale is the LB coach for the Raiders. Jason Michael was just promoted to the quarterback coaching job of the New York Jets. Of course Romeo Crennel is the head coach of the Browns. - Big Money G - 02-04-2007 11:16 AM Great article from Courier Journal on former WKU player/coach Darryl Drake. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070204/NEWS01/702040514 |
