....SOMETIMES!

We can't get one, single, freakin' 1-A to play us.
Hell, I'm beginning to think the only way to play a 1-A is for US to open the damn check book.

This is what the BCS has done to 1-A football. I can remember when every 1-A had at least one 1-AA on the schedule...'course even then most stayed the hell away from Georgia Southern.

- Catamount Cooter - 05-13-2003 07:03 PM

I agree. Screw the BCS and all of I-A. GO CATAMOUNTS!!

- gasoutherneagle - 05-14-2003 10:13 AM

You want a REAL 1-A champion and a TRUELY competitive division?!?!?!?

I was happy to see Marshall leave the Southern Conference and move up....but I sure do miss the playoffs!!

Losing to a lower tier IA team (ala' Louisiana-Monroe) is rather embarrassing for any of the majors and/or midmajors. Losing to I-AA team is beyond embarrassing, no matter how much $$ is paid. The only way GSU is going to get some IA teams to play it is to go IA itself, which it currently refuses to do. However, if GSU wants to play the big boys, it's going to have to join the big boys. Print it.

I'd love to. But, Southern Boosters ain't exactly got the check book UGA has. And, complying with Title IX is a freaking nightmare...with a giant vacuum, sucking-sound. Just to comply with 1-AA's Title IX obligations, GSU had to liquidate 3 men's sports because we lacked to funding to simply add 2 women's programs.

As much as I'd love to move up...I'm afraid we are stuck here, indefinitly. :crying:

Uh, Troy State managed to pull off the move & it looks FAMU will too. Both don't have the check book UGa has. So, I ask you again, what's GSU's excuse??

Troy State is in serious trouble financially and will probably be forced back down. Troy was a little pre-mature in their jump up. Yeah, they met the requirments but they forgot that they would have to MAINTAIN those levels.

FAMU has a much larger fan base, alumni base, and booster organization than we do. Not to mention access to Federal funding for HBCUs that we can't qualify for.

It will take a 5 or 10 year plan to push this move forward. I'm all for it!!! But, aparently some of the older money is resistant to the idea.

UGA ought to know all about the power of the "old money alumni." 03-wink

No excuses...I WANT TO MOVE UP. It sucks beating to sh-- out of 90% of your competition. When your own fans are filing out of the stadium to continue the party in the parking lot because we are up 48 points by halftime...a change in competition level NEEDS to be made.

We've got 6 titles in 21 years of football. We could fill up two more flagpoles with title banners and we will be right where we are now.

No media coverage, no competition, and no respect from 1-A...other than fear of playing us.

Hell, UGA schedules us once every 4 years for one reason and one reason only...ERK!

Exactly! This is what all the mid-majors have been screaming for. The BCS sucks. A team like Toledo can't schedule a DI-AA school if they want any chance at making a BCS bowl. Even then, going undefeated still won't put you in a BCS bowl unless your non-conference schedule is filled up with games against teams like Florida State, Ohio State, Miami Fl., and Oklahoma. The problem with playing those teams is that they absolutely refuse to come to your stadium so you have to play on the road all the time. And gettting them to even schedule you in their stadium isn't very easy either. They would rather play a San Jose State or Tulsa that they know they will beat for sure.

- gasoutherneagle - 06-20-2003 12:16 PM

Look at K-State...they can have a couple of 1-AAs and three or four bottom-feeder teams, AND STILL GET RANKED IN THE TOP 5!!!!

Explain that BS to me!!! :bang:

Well Geez we played Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oregon state, and some others and used to beat up on Central Florida, Troy, Middle Tenn, and others so really we have played them. Now at least we have moved up and can began the next chapter.

RE: It sucks to be king.... - GoApps70 - 04-13-2014 11:07 AM

And you beat Florida while an FCS Transitional team.
So there is hope now.
Look forward to the ESPNU game September 25th, 2014 with GaSo and App State in Statesboro.

Coot, guess you died.
