President Trump (80) campaigned in 2024 on promises to lower Americans’ cost of living, vowing to push gasoline prices below $2 a gallon and to deliver 2% mortgage rates. Two years later, consumers face sharply higher costs for many of the necessities he pledged to make more affordable.

Less than a month before the midterm elections, the gap between Mr. Trump’s promises and the financial realities facing many Americans is fueling voter frustration over the economy. Although economic growth is solid and unemployment remains low, nine in 10 Americans say prices are the most important factor shaping their views of the economy, according to a recent CBS News poll.

The financial pressures affecting Americans predate Mr. Trump’s return to the White House last year. Consumers are reeling from the cumulative impact of five years of post-pandemic inflation, economists note. But his campaign promises raised hopes that he would lower consumer prices.

At the same time, some of Mr. Trump’s policies have exacerbated inflation. His tariff regime contributed about 2.9 percentage points to inflation through February, according to new research from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Without the tariffs, the price of goods would have declined, the researchers said.

Mr. Trump’s decision to attack Iran in February has also led to a drawn-out conflict that has disrupted oil shipments and sharply driven up the price of oil, gas and diesel.
....
Inflation in September is forecast to have risen at an annual rate of 3.6%, up from 3.4% in August, according to economists polled by FactSet—well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% annual target.

Ryan Bourne, an economist at the libertarian Cato Institute, said that consumers “judge the prices they’re paying against the prices they paid four or five years ago, and are still shocked by it.” He added, “As a result of that, they think the economy’s doing very, very badly.”

Almost everything but gas prices are down compared to Biden. And the only reason those prices are still up is because we're doing what we can to keep Iran from getting a nuclear weapon they could use on us, which would be a culmination of a nearly five decade war they've waged -- and are still waging -- on us. Again, Trump didn't start this war. I mean it. You can't start a war that was started against you years ago.

gas prices are lower versus Biden* and MUCH lower versus Obama when inflation is accounted for.

housing prices are down in red states where illegals are being removed. They are up in the libturd run blue filth areas.

egg prices are WAY down.

That article says that the cost of food prepared at home has risen 4% since late 2024.

HOWEVER, it also notes that the same food costs rose 23% in the previous 4 years under Biden. Lol

No.

Overall prices are not lower under Trump compared to Biden; according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the general price level has continued to rise rather than fall.

The US helped Iran get its nuclear industry started in 1967. The Tehran Nuclear Research Center began with a U.S.-supplied 5 MW research reactor. During the 1970s, Iran pursued ambitious plans for up to 20 nuclear power plants (starting the Bushehr reactors with German assistance).

US nuclear industry spent massive sums lobbying and funding politicians because they wanted to get the government to help them get rich by “exporting” their nuclear products.

That’s how it all began.

Now, that lobbying (corruption) is costing us billions in borrowing to try to sort out thru military action.

Never underestimate the short sightedness of a single industry lobbying front and how focused it is on its own profit, everything else be damned.

High gas prices today can be directly traced to the bribery and collusion the US nuclear industry pulled off decades ago.

We seem to be the masters of shooting ourselves in the foot. With the exception of Israel, we are our own worst enemy.

GeminiCoog obviously did not visit the link.

Look at the report. The charts tell quite a story.

Yes. I'm sorry you hate that, but then again, I don't care.

Gitanole: Well, CBS News has been known to lie for the Democrats so no, I didn't click on the link.

They always forget about inflation under Biden on purpose.

I didn’t read the link either because is easier and faster to just fact check the claim. It is interesting you left out this part of my post, “according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the general price level has continued to rise rather than fall”.

Energy is going to bring us back. That means we’re going down and getting gasoline below $2 a gallon, bring down the price of everything from electricity rates to groceries, airfares, and housing costs.”

I think we all agreed Trump has greatly mishandled Iran. He has the right reasons, just the wrong execution. It has hurt everything he would have been fixing, instead everything he campaigned about has been short-changed to deal with it.

I don't think so. Did any other president since 1979 do better? No, they let it continue on, to great harm to many. Where did that get us? To Iran furiously trying to build a nuke? How would that turn out?

Plus, it's possible to do more than one thing at a time. Other positive results have been achieved elsewhere.

I'm all for what Trump did to Iran's nuclear dreams, that is, squash their hopes. But, I don't know if I would feel the same way if I was still working and needing to put gasoline in my car. If I was informed I'd be all for it but unfortunately there are too many dumbasses out there that don't even know who we fought in WWII and all they know is what the Left Stream Media feeds them.

So, like I said, he has the right reasons. I am not against taking action against Iran. Even the most rational, level-headed people can admit he blundered a lot of it. From his own mouth he thought this would last 8 weeks. Bomb the hell out of them, force them to make promises, take a victory lap. It has not gone as planned at all, hence mishandled. He completely underestimated what IRGC was willing to do to stay in power.

RE: Trump promises vs. Trump prices - Todor - 10-11-2026 10:00 PM

Iran got their nuclear start from us btw…

US corporate lobbying and corruption lead to an issue we think we are being forced to address decades later. And we are borrowing trillions to deal with it.

Who could have ever foreseen such a thing?

Answer: EVERYBODY
