Alberta schedules independence vote - bullet - 08-06-2026 01:03 PM https://www.wsj.com/world/americas/canada-alberta-independence-vote-28ea3952?st=pzuQC2 Its kind of a pretend referendum. But they do get to vote on whether they want a binding referendum on secession. RE: Albert schedules independence vote - Native Georgian - 08-06-2026 01:23 PM Yeah, nothing is going to happen as a result of this. But still good on them for allowing people to vote for it, anyway. RE: Albert schedules independence vote - U_of_Elvis - 08-06-2026 03:15 PM Good for Albert, he is a good dude. RE: Albert schedules independence vote - Tiger1983 - 08-06-2026 03:36 PM The vote may help sway Ottawa to treat Alberta more fairly because Alberta contributes vast amounts of funding for other Provinces while her own concerns are neglected. RE: Albert schedules independence vote - CardinalJim - 08-06-2026 04:30 PM Back in the 1995 Quebec was going through the same referendums. Ottawa told Quebec’s Provincial government they would have to take their part of the National Debt with them. From Gemini….. 93.52% of the 5,087,009 registered Quebecers voted in the referendum, a higher turnout than any provincial or federal election in Canada's history. The proposal of June 12, 1995 was rejected by voters, with 50.58% voting "No" and 49.42% voting "Yes". Alberta will likely to told the same thing. Any share of the national debt is a matter of negotiation. Ultimately, what can Ottawa do about it? Invasion? We can help things along by pledging recognition of an independent Alberta after the vote and granting full access to ports and markets and forbidding military intervention. My ideas assume an independent Alberta would be in our best interest. RE: Albert schedules independence vote - YNot - 08-06-2026 05:35 PM Quick! Get this in before any more senators can file amendments to the PCSA to institute a statehood realignment limit! Even though Alberta is a the most Conservative Canadian province, Conservatives in Canada have more in common with “moderate” Democrats in the US than Republicans. Alberta schedules independence vote - JMUDunk - 08-07-2026 12:00 AM “Do you have Prince Albert in a can”? Yes, we do. Better let him out before he suffocates… 9YO hangs up and giggles… Those were the DAYS!!! RE: Alberta schedules independence vote - banker - 08-07-2026 12:21 AM I’ve been paying a lot of attention to this for over a year and 100% want it to happen for the people of Alberta. They could be a small Texas if they didn’t get all their output robbed to pay for socialist programs. Their people remind me of folks from Montana for the most part. RE: Alberta schedules independence vote - otown - 08-07-2026 03:48 AM If the DSA eventually got power and do a soft overthrow of our system of government, Texas and Florida will leave the union and it will not go the route of how Alberta's referendum will go. Texas and Florida wouldnt take no for an answer if their population voted out.
