Investigative journalist make 10x less than an anchor reading a teleprompter.

On air talent has always made way more. Seems like one would research that before choosing a career path.

Broadcast news is dead. Cable news is on life support.

CBS is cutting jobs. CNN is about to start cutting jobs.

New media is the future.

I don't know how these local channel news stations stay afloat. Their viewers die every day and aren't being replaced with new ones. My guess is within 5 years if not sooner there will no longer be a "local news broadcast" in America. I get instant update notifications of news from my local station on my phone. Why would I need to come home and watch "the news" at 5 pm or 10 pm?

I work in print journalism and have a face that is much better suited for that focus medium than, instead, for television broadcast journalism. Hypothetically, viewers would recoil at the sight of the chinless and snow-white-skinned Bill Dazzle (likely wearing a seersucker suit, no less) reading/reporting on the news.

Not all of us can be Jack Lime.

Guy at my gym is one of the local investigative news journalists. He said he doesn’t make much, he has two side huddles to make ends meet. They churn and burn them, you just hope to get called up to another affiliate where you might make more money because your duties increase. A couple of the anchors who have been in town for over 20 years make a nice pot of cash.

My buddy was a camera man at the CBS affiliate here in Louisville. He left for a job at WXIX in Cincinnati. At that time he said if you want to make more money you have to move to bigger markets.

Local news here in Louisville is being consolidated. The top ranked station here in Louisville was recently purchased by the parent company of the third or fourth ranked station in the city.

It’s crazy how quickly people come and go now.
