Cuba at the brink - georgia_tech_swagger - 03-08-2026 09:53 PM

Protests in Havana amid sustained large blackouts.

Rubio is purportedly in talks with Castro's grandson. A deal may be reached soon.

It looks like Roddy Piper is all out of bubble gum.

My grandparents vacationed in Cuba regularly in the early to mid 50's. Cuba as a resort for the U.S. would make money, especially if Las Vegas opened a branch there again, and the standard of living would go way up as both nations could spend less on defending against each other. Hemispheric defense would be easier, and it should be clear to Cuba by now that having a Very Northern European ally that pisses us off is not good for them.

Reasonable minds would consider making Cuba a territory if they so wished and open doors which allow both to reciprocate in building a cordial relationship.

I've been supportive of this kind of move for almost 60 years. I hope I live to see it.

And if the U.S. sends industry currently in China to Mexico, Central or South America to improve their standard of living and to produce our cost-efficient goods closer to home then so be it. Cuba has quite the medical research going on for cancer treatments some of them novel to us. Perhaps they would be a much better location for the production of our maintenance drugs than China.

Smart business is in securing our Commercial Zone from Canada to the tip of Chile and Argentina and onto the Antarctic. Having a cooperative, working relationship with South, Central and North America is in all of our best interests and the best way to stop illegal immigration is to provide our immediate neighbors with a means to make a better living working with us, rather than in abandoning loved ones and seeking asylum.

There is nothing reasonable about adding a bunch of communists. And a bunch of poor communists. Might as well add Haiti as a territory.

The reasonable part Bullet is that the Russians will no longer have a permanent Aircraft carrier to use against the U.S. and neither will they have a reason to be in our waters!

Cuba is releasing 51 prisoners, and there is "an announcement" coming from the Cuban government in the morning.
