Ellison and Frey Announce They’re Suing Trump Admin. to End Surge of ICE Agents - CrimsonPhantom - 01-12-2026 07:45 PM
Quote:Minnesota’s top ‘law enforcement’ official and the two Twin City mayors today took a dramatic and unconstitutional step in their efforts to send ICE agents packing from the state following last week’s deadly ICE self-defense shooting.
As KTSP reported, crooked Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her have jointly sued the Trump administration over DHS agents enforcing immigration law in the Twin Cities.
The lawsuit filed by the trio seeks to completely end the so-called “unprecedented surge” of more than 2,000 federal agents deployed by the DHS.
The filing also alleges that the federal government has violated the 10th Amendment of the Constitution by removing Minnesota’s “right’ to police itself.”
During a press conference announcing the lawsuit, Ellison accused the DHS agents of causing “serious harm” and said the Trump Administration has launched a federal invasion.
“The deployment of thousands of armed, masked DHS agents to Minnesota has done our state serious harm,” Ellison alleged. “This is essentially a federal invasion of Minnesota and the Twin Cities, and it must stop.”
WATCH:
Ellison also played the race card, accusing ICE agents of racially profiling Minnesota residents and shutting down businesses.”
“People are being racially profiled, harassed, terrorized, and assaulted,” he claimed. “Schools have gone into lockdown. Businesses have been forced to close.”
“Minnesota police are spending countless hours dealing with the chaos ICE is causing. This federal invasion of the Twin Cities has to stop, so today I am suing DHS to bring it to an end.”
Also during the press conference, Frey doubled down on his disgusting remarks against ICE, echoing Ellison in calling ICE’s presence in his city an invasion.
“We don’t use the term invasion lightly,” he said.
ICE director Todd Lyons responded to the lawsuit on Fox News.
“We’re not asking any government agency in Minnesota to do immigration law for us,” he told Will Cain. I don’t see how that’s an overreach.
“We’re doing our lawful law enforcement mission that Congress has on the books,” he added. “‘We don’t show a warrant for arrest”
“Title VIII under the Immigration Nationality Act says ICE doesn’t NEED a warrant to make that arrest.”

Nationalize the guard, send them inside, and apprehend anyone posing a threat or attempting to evade POTUS's legal procedures. Prosecute them to the fullest extent permitted by law and incarcerate them. Then systematically do the same thing in every sanctuary city or state in the country. There's your initial blueprint.

NOT JUST MINNESOTA: Far-Left Illinois Attorney General SUES DHS, ICE, and CBP for ENFORCING FEDERAL LAW and Doing Their Jobs
Quote:![[Image: screenshot-2026-01-12-at-11.49.24pm-1600x900.jpg]](https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/screenshot-2026-01-12-at-11.49.24pm-1600x900.jpg)
The radical left is doubling down on their open-borders agenda, shielding illegal aliens and criminals while spitting in the face of hardworking federal agents who risk their lives to protect Americans.
After last week’s deadly ICE self-defense shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota’s top Democrat officials took the extraordinary step of suing the federal government for enforcing immigration law. Now, Illinois has followed suit.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced Monday that his office has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, along with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, accusing federal agents of “dangerous” and “unlawful” enforcement actions in Illinois.
In a theatrical press conference, Raoul ranted:
“Tear gas, chemical weapons, rubber bullets, mass men carrying semi-automatic rifles, and instruments of war used to intimidate, harass, and assault—these hallmarks of a war zone seen on movie screens have no place in an American city, much less at a daycare center, courthouses, in our neighborhoods, or outside our children’s schools.
When I took my oath to serve as the Illinois Attorney General, I swore to uphold and defend the United States and Illinois Constitutions. I could never have envisioned standing here today, defending the rule of law and our state sovereignty against attacks by the United States government. But I will not hesitate or shy away from protecting our state, even from our own federal government.
Because since September, the state of Illinois has faced an incursion of uniformed, military-trained personnel carrying semi-automatic firearms and military-grade weaponry. These Border Patrol agents and ICE officers have acted as occupiers rather than officers of the law, as they have rampaged through the Chicago area—arbitrarily interrogating and arresting residents and attacking them with chemical weapons.
The repeated invasions of private property, wrongful arrests, illegal interrogations, and violent confrontations have not made our city or state safer.”
WATCH:
This is the same guy who turns a blind eye to Chicago’s skyrocketing murder rates, where gangbangers shoot up neighborhoods daily, but suddenly he’s outraged when federal heroes step in to deport criminals?
Raoul claims he swore to uphold the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions but apparently, that oath doesn’t include respecting federal supremacy on immigration when it suits his radical agenda.

CNN’s Elie Honig Dumps All Over States Fighting Trump ICE ‘Invasion’ in Court: ‘Political Diatribes Masquerading as Lawsuits’
Quote:CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig torpedoed the state legal cases against President Donald Trump’s ICE crackdown, calling them “political diatribes masquerading as lawsuits.”
The state of Minnesota and the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul sued the Trump administration over what they call a “federal invasion” by deportation forces.
The lawsuits, filed Monday amid outrage over the Renee Good killing, cite the 10th Amendment in opposition to the administration’s so-called “Operation Metro Surge.”
On Tuesday’s edition of CNN News Central, anchor Kate Bolduan asked Honig if the states have a strong case. His answer was a definitive “no”:
KATE BOLDUAN: Elie, let’s focus in on the Minnesota lawsuit. What do you see in it? Do you see, do you think it is a strong case?
ELIE HONIG: No, I don’t, Kay. I’ve read both the Minnesota and Illinois lawsuits. They’re really political diatribes masquerading as lawsuits.
If you look at what both states are asking the courts to do, it’s to kick ICE out of those states and cities and to bar ICE from carrying on federal law enforcement in Illinois and Minnesota. That’s the top thing both states ask to do and they cite zero precedent for that. There is zero precedent for that.
There is no way a judge can say. You, federal law enforcement agency, you are not allowed to execute federal law in a certain state or city. I think the most that the states could get out of this, if they get sympathetic judges, is a judge who’s going to ask questions of ICE, who’s gonna hold hearings, who is to demand questions about how they’re training, how they are carrying out their policy.
You also could have judges that issue sort of symbolic orders along the lines of, ICE, you are not to violate the law, but that’s already the case. It’s already not allowed for ICE to violate the law.
So these lawsuits, which appear to be coordinated, they’re potentially powerful political statements, but I don’t give them much of a chance of achieving the legal thing that they’re asking for in the courts.
KATE BOLDUAN: One thing we heard over and over from Keith Ellison, the attorney general of Minnesota, was that this is a federal invasion of their state. What’s kind of the legalese that they’re trying to lean on there?
ELIE HONIG: There is no legalese to that. I mean, it’s a powerful sort of rhetorical term. You heard a lot of things about an invasion and how horrible this is.
Even if every allegation made in both complaints is true, and we don’t know that, it doesn’t necessarily give them a constitutional legal remedy here.
And by the way, to be specific about why there’s a constitutional problem here. If a judge were to say to ICE, you can’t enforce the law in Minnesota or Illinois–.
It would violate the supremacy clause, which says the federal government gets to carry out federal priorities and the states cannot stop them.
