Schumer not expected to run again in 2028: report - CrimsonPhantom - 11-13-2025 09:04 PM

Quote:Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is facing new pressure inside his party after the recent government shutdown fight, and a new report says many Senate Democrats do not believe he will seek another term in 2028. The reporting comes from Puck News, which lays out the growing frustration with Schumer especially after his handling of the shutdown.

Schumer has been under persistent fire from his own Democrat Party after 8 senators defected for the vote to reopen. Rumors have swirled that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will seek his seat in 2028 and Indivisible, as well as other left-wing non-profit groups, have vowed to work toward his ouster from Democratic leadership.

Schumer has not said whether he plans to retire or run again. But according to the report, Senate Democrats “have no expectation he’ll run again” once his term is up in 2028.

The report notes that there is no active effort to remove Schumer, and no clear challenger is preparing to take his position.

The Red Guards are purifying their party.

Let them, I can’t see socialism being able to pull more than 25% in a national election, max of about 8 senators and maybe 25 House members. That will just set up a constant battle on the left and the right can just do what they want while those two fight it out. It will also flip moderate blue seats red.

Not surprised.

The problem really is that the end of his term is still three full years away. That’s a long time to have a lame duck as the Minority (or Majority) Leader.

Schumer has made himself useless and contemptible in a thousand different ways. But his refusal to say who he voted for in the NY Mayoral election really created a new dimension of political cowardice and irrelevance. If he thinks people have been disrespectful to him before… he ain’t seen nothing yet.
