68. South Florida: $95,425,212
70. Connecticut: $91,800,871

Now let's do some additions and subtractions to reflect the moves that have happened since these revenues were earned.

The SEC with 14 schools will add Texas and Oklahoma. 509,245,861 + 2,633,061,683 = $3,142,307,544 in revenue for a 16 school SEC.

The Big 12 with 14 schools had 1,985,749,191 - 509,245,861 = $1,476,503,330
But the Big 12 added 4 PAC 12 schools worth 524,167,710 + 1,476,503,330 = $2,000,671,040 for their new 16 member Big 12. The loss of Texas and Oklahoma's value is covered by the 4 corners.

Meanwhile the Big 10 takes 4 schools from the PAC 12 too. Now add 751,870,335 to 2,442,709,380 = $3,194,579,715 in total revenue with 18 schools. Their move essentially matches new revenue of the SEC with 16.

Are you guys catching what's going on here? The SEC added total revenue with 2 schools that took them to 3.142 billion. The Big 10 added total revenue with 4 schools that took them to 3.194 billion, but with 18 schools instead of 16.

Meanwhile the ACC added 3 schools (2 from the PAC 12 and SMU) which adds 445,673,395 dollars in revenue to 2,037,572,282 which takes them to $2,483,245,677 in total revenue. That's for 17 schools as full members. But they are aware they could lose, 340,912,420 in revenue should FSU and Clemson leave. But that leaves almost enough to also cover the movement of North Carolina and leave them roughly the same generated revenue. But covers a move by N.C. State even better.

It seems to me the networks are merely trying to keep the SEC and Big 10 essentially equal in capacity to generate revenue and trying to keep the Big 12 and ACC also roughly equal in their ability to generate revenue.

But let's say that Clemson and FSU wind up in the SEC. That move is not enough to force a Big 10 response as it would only leave the SEC with about 150 million advantage in total revenue production with each standing at 18 members. ESPN could decide to hold more value in the ACC by keeping Clemson, enhance FSU's value in the SEC and pick up fully a product they have secured T3 with in the past, Kansas. It will be worth watching to see how ESPN plays the next moves.

Now you can see how interesting the math can be in a set of seemingly random numbers and why when you look at the conference whole as it relates to their media contract you can see how the networks protect their investments when parts start moving.

Just some food for thought.

I’m still impressed with Stanford and Kansas’ revenues. They truly don’t need football success to support their efforts.

RE: 2023-24 Gross Revenue Totals for the P5 Conferences (Totals and Averages) - AllTideUp - 06-02-2025 10:09 PM

So here's an interesting stat line:

Combined stats of Kansas and Colorado = $361,599,392

Combined stats of Florida State and Clemson = $340,912,420

For the Big 12 and ACC, losing these schools would be a very similar drop in overall value.

If there is a plan to keep the ACC and Big 12 roughly equal then this would actually help achieve that goal.

So are you suggesting that the SEC add all 4?

Hmm, let's see:

Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas

Arkansas, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas A&M

Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina

That would be fairly well balanced.

The problem would be who the Big 10 would want to get to 20. They need one in the Pacific, and either one in the Plains, or one to the East. Stanford is pretty obvious for the West, maybe an Arizona school. Who to the East? Miami?

If so then which two do the ACC go two to catch up? USF is only worth 95 million. UConn 91 million. Add West Virginia and it would make geographical sense and Cal could head to the Big 12 and it would be about even again.
