New MBB coach announced - Todor - 03-21-2025 04:36 AM https://www.gocsucougars.com/news/2025/3/20/general-chicago-state-names-landon-bussie-head-mens-basketball-coach.aspx Had some limited success in SWAC play while at Alcorn State. Not sure why he is leaving there to take Chicago, but I’d guess it’s pay. I don’t believe he was fired, but I haven’t looked into it much. I’d look for much more of the same for Chicago State, playing a brutal non schedule for money, and just trying to win the conference. Definitely not a choice I would have made, but nobody asked me lol. I dont necessarily think he’s a bad choice all things considered. There are plenty of things I believe he may be able to accomplish at Chicago if he stays more than a season or 2. But the NEC definitely isn’t the SWAC, so I’m uncertain if he’ll be able to replicate his 2 regular season titles at Alcorn in the NEC. If I had to guess, I’d say no. By my count, he had a total 4 or 5 D1 wins versus non SWAC teams in his entire 5 season tenure there. Yikes. RE: New MBB coach announced - MICHAELSPAPPY - 03-21-2025 01:49 PM For him this probably is a small step up the ladder. He will have the advantage of knowing how to win with very limited resources. I would assume that he doesn't have many Chicago recruiting connections, but south Louisiana is a hotbed of talent. I think he can build a decent NEC level team. Going off memory, he didn’t really do that much at Alcorn(?) but was not hopeless either. I believe their standings in the SWAC were reputable a few times, and that’s not altogether different from level of the NEC. Near the very bottom. And Chicago State should be a lot better place to recruit, believe it or not. I think thr SWAC in general has a bad reputation as a very poorly funded HBCU’s, some in very small towns/rural areas. Not places that are fun to travel to. The NEC is a step up in many ways for many players, so let’s hope he can get a few of them. RE: New MBB coach announced - Todor - 08-13-2025 02:26 AM I’m anxious to see a final roster for MBB. I have no idea who will be returning. I am 99% sure Cam Jernigan and Noble Crawford have used up their eligibility. I know Saxby Sutherland has transferred. Quincy Allen went in the portal, and back out, so I believe he’ll be there. Troy McKoy had a very strong season for a true freshman, and as far as I know, he’s returning. At least I didn’t see him in the portal. Matthew Robinson, Daillas Cox, and Jalen Forrest all had productive court time last season and can be very solid contributors. Last season was a constant rotation of who happened to be on fire on any given night. A number of players put up 25-30 points in different games, while going completely cold other nights. There’s a lot of versatility in what I believe will be the returners. 2,3, and 4 are covered. Who will play point, is a question, and whether or not there will be a solid big man will determine a lot about now that season will play out. |
