...easy trip for both teams - should be well attended... people rag on the B'ham Bowl, but the matchups and typically the attendance are almost always above average for the 'lower tier' bowls...

Can’t believe it’s been around for 18 years and UAB has never played in it.

Our AD should be moving heaven and earth to get Vandy on the OoC schedule HH. They have played at MTSU and at Ga State and I’m sure would come here.

Doesn't seem like they'd be opposed to it, that's for sure. It'd be a lot more fun for us as fans to travel to Vandy than UConn as well.

Exactly I hate that both GA Tech and Vandy’s first time playing at Protective is against each other and not due to a Home and Home against us.

yep - I've NEVER understood why we didn't get at LEAST a game in ATL with GT... if not a 'h&h'... ...back in the Watson era, we had a handful of ACC teams on the schedules over time, but for some reason, never GT - even in bball... perhaps there's some sort of 'anti-B'ham' sentiment there? 03-phew

I know for a fact that they've tried to schedule GT in hoops for many many years. We've played them repeatedly in the "secret games", but they would never sign a contract to play us.

And this season we played Vandy in a secret scrimmage.

Watson negotiated a multiyear home and home with GT. All that was left was for the contract to be signed. We almost beat UGA in Athens and Pat Sullivan stole Hackney out of Atlanta and GT walked away.

Coach Bartow negotiated a 4 year home and home with GT. GT wanted to play on campus but didnt want to play at Bartow. The final agreement ended up with 1 game at The Omni, 1 at BJCC, 1 at GT and 1 at Bartow. GT walked away.

Coach Kennedy did manage to actually schedule a game with GT. Only to have them cancel during the pandemic.

I hope we never give Tech the time of day again...Not worth the effort.

I’m with you there Jay. I’ve seen enough of that posted over the years to agree. GT has no reason to act all high and mighty, and if they are going to be that difficult, screw em.

...yeah, seems like I remember they have been more than difficult regarding things... whatever... ...as an old Aubie, I'm not fond of the Humble Bumbles, anyway... 03-drunk

Was anyone here part of the 2014 FREE UAB protests and/or interested in helping organize a protest at the Birmingham Bowl?

I’m looking for people with experience in organizing events, protests, Gang Green leaders, etc. Let me know if you’re interested in helping in the organization. I’ve started a Google Doc with pre-planning and am now ready to meet with people to get the organizing started.

I’m waiting to hear back from BVP to see when would be a good time to meet and if they are interested in helping behind the scenes.

Back when Georgia Tech was in the $EC, they and Vandy were rivals playing for the Cowbell Trophy

This is ironic because GT and UAB have a deep partnership on technology stuff. UAB's internet and some related technology is basically provided by/through GT. They're joined at the hip in some very important and strategic ways
