KenPom started UAB out at #84, but now have them at 81.

Projected record is 21-8 and 11-7.

The AAC is ranked the 8th best conference out of 31 conferences. The SEC is ranked #1, with C-USA and the Sun Belt at 12 and 13 respectively.

11-7 would not be good news for us. I think we realistically need to be around 5 losses this season to sniff an at large.

Kenpom tends to hate UAB lol

I've never held KenPom in high regard.

His rating of the SEC over the B12 this season in laughable.

Although he has the SEC #1 and the B12 #2, the difference in their rating points is statistically insignificant. It’s neck and neck.

Better than Sagarin. He is just consistently terrible and leans HARD to the power conferences

Is it just me or does this Memphis team just not seem that scary?

Last year's team actually scared me. They were top 10 at one point, David Jones could drop 30 on you easily at any time, Quinerly was talented and could go off, and they had a ton of length and depth. They had all the tools to be one of the vintage, scary, Memphis teams. They just lacked cohesion and COACHING.

This year, they obviously still have the coaching issue at the top, but their players and roster just aren't as scary. Maybe I'm living in the past too much - but Rogers and Haggerty are good, but they aren't Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, Rodney Carney, CDR, even David Jones, etc, level of GOOD to GREAT.

Their forwards/centers all scored/rebounded in the 8/6 range from middling to decent teams. Not overly impressive or scary. They all seem to be purely post players, with abysmal ft shooting numbers and no outside presence whatsoever.

The guy from Texas scored 11 points per game. Again, not overly impressive.

They don't seem to have any consistent outside shooting, outside of Rogers.

I don't know - on paper, they just don't scare me as much as Memphis teams usually do. Which probably means they will run rampant.

I honestly think our talent level is just as good, if not better.

They will be a good team, no doubt, but to say that "they have the talent to win the conference easily," like this article does, just seems disingenuous.

Some are determined to die on that Memphis hill.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores - KevMo4UAB - 11-04-2024 12:54 PM

In the AAC, all but North Texas and Rice open up the season today. Those two teams open up tomorrow.

Games of interest include:
Memphis (42) hosting Missouri (52)
Wichita State (101) hosting Western Kentucky (132)
USF (102) meeting Florida (26) at a neutral site
FAU (104) also on a neutral court against Indiana State (157)
UAB (81) hosting Vermont (96)

All other games are against lowly-ranked teams or non-D1 schools.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores - blazers9911 - 11-04-2024 01:03 PM

Winning 3/5 of those would be a pretty good start to the season.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores - KevMo4UAB - 11-05-2024 12:42 AM

Wichita State 91 - WKU 84

Memphis 83 - Missouri 75

FAU 97 - Indiana State 64

UAB and USF lost. All other AAC teams won.

Would’ve been a great night for the conference if we had pulled our weight.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores - KevMo4UAB - 11-05-2024 10:36 PM

Rice 77 - FIU 70

North Texas 80 - Evansville 63

The AAC is now 11-2.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores - KevMo4UAB - 11-07-2024 01:05 AM

Vermont 43 - Auburn 94

Good start for the AAC.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores - KevMo4UAB - 11-08-2024 06:19 AM

Currently, the AAC has five teams in the KenPom top 100, and ten in the top 150.

Memphis 39
North Texas 72
FAU 85
UAB 97
Wichita State 98

USF 108
ECU 128
Charlotte 133
Temple 141
Tulsa 145

The AAC remains ranked the 8th best conference, one below the Atlantic 10 and one above the West Coast.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores - KevMo4UAB - 11-09-2024 07:34 AM

Arkansas State (120) 79 - Alabama (5) 88. Alabama led by 2 points with 6 minutes to go.

Arkansas State beat UAB by 19 points last season. They are going to be very difficult again this season.

Wow I didn’t expect to see that score
