Sorry to hear. This stuff is nasty and super addictive. And they market it like candy with the flavors. Good luck to him. Is it time to ban vaping? - EverRespect - 09-06-2019 05:22 AM Banning it would be useless and probably make it easier for the youngins to get. Super easy to make the stuff yourself. The way our system is set up today, we are ultimately on the hook for their poor decisions. That's an infringement on one of our inalienable rights - property - IMHO. Considering that the money the various levels of government have is due to the consent of the governed - they are holding that money in trust for us and spending it in ways to maximize our benefits. Paying the healthcare costs for those who make stupid decisions is ultimately money taken out of our pockets. The same thing goes for those who abuse food, alcohol or any other vice. So you get to strip lower class citizens of their freedoms and liberties because they don't make enough money to deserve them?? Hmmmm, I wonder where we have heard that before? Like the other poster said, LOTS of things affect heath. Where do you draw the line and who decides? And who enforces it and how do they enforce it? Trying to conflate this with your overly broad statement that a bunch of things affect health is unnecessary. We're talking tobacco and the effects of tobacco on the human body are measurable and quantifiable. Why shouldn't certain liberties be curtailed if you are on the gov't dole? I think it's more than fair to be required to give up certain things in exchange for bailouts. Shouldn't being on the gov't dole be a temporary situation for damn near everyone? If so, then all the more reason why you shouldn't be striving to get off the dole so that you can have fuller access to the American way of life. What other parts of the gov't wastes their money on is not relevant to this discussion. Besides, this implies that you are stating that waste is OK in this situation because there is even more waste occurring elsewhere. How is that logical? Waste needs to be confronted regardless. If you haven't noticed, my issue with people who ring the bell for civil liberties and "our freedoms" is the following: "everyone is all in favor of utilizing their rights; however, they mysteriously change into advocates of gov't spending on bailouts when exercising these rights go badly. People want their rights but don't want to deal with the consequences if exercising their rights causes themselves pain. RE: Is it time to ban vaping? - Redwingtom - 09-06-2019 08:31 AM Eh...I more lean to letting natural selection work its course.
RE: Is it time to ban vaping? - umbluegray - 09-06-2019 11:32 AM I'm a former smoker. I quit cold turkey one day about 25 years ago. I don't mind 2nd hand smoke. I don't mind people smoking. Anyway, I find it quite hypocritical for the powers-that-be to go all out trying to shut down tobacco while allowing alcohol and pushing MJ legalization. 1st, the decision to go after cigs was an attack on an industry. That aside, smokers were directly impacted. The price of cigs sky-rocketed. And along came smoking alternatives, i.e. vaping. When justifying their actions against tobacco all we heard about were the health consequences and costs. Well, now what? We were given worse health consequences. If the push is for government to stay out of my decisions, then STAY OUT OF MY DECISIONS! Drunk driving accounts for 29% of all fatalities on our nation's roads. Get rid of alcohol and you save over 10,000 lives per year. Get rid of alcohol and you save over 88,000 lives per year from alcohol-related issues. Since legalization of MJ we've seen a dramatic increase in impaired driving issues. In fact, since legalization studies show the odds of being involved in a car accident increase by 83% under the influence of THC. Increased motor vehicle accident rates impact everyone who buys car insurance. Last year USAA increased my car insurance premiums even though I had no claims, tickets or accidents. I called to ask why. The answer: because TN had more accidents than projected. Anyway, back to topic.... Personally, I think we should crack down on vaping because it is incredibly harmful. But, I also think we should crack down on alcohol and marijuana. Given that most people don't agree and given that a ban on either substance won't work in practice, leave it all alone. If people want to drink to the point of personal harm, let them. If people want to smoke to the point of personal harm, let them. Or.... quit being hypocritical and end it all. That's a truly libertarian view. My Grandpa used to say we should give hard rugs away for free on street corners, and the problem would solve itself in a few years. RE: Is it time to ban vaping? - gdunn - 09-06-2019 12:31 PM But the problem is people like Tom would want the government to pay for these people's healthcare so in the long run, it screws those of us not vaping. My son is 24 years old and can make his own choices . I no longer can demand or set punishment for the things he does. Right now the evil we know is better than what we dont know. So yes, the pouches of tobacco are better than vaping. If it was my choice he he never would have picked up the habit. I would rather for him to stop but at this point he chooses not to. Since his son was born he has slowed down. Maybe when his son is old enough to tell his father how nasty the crap is... he will stop Controlling or stopping addiction only works when a person wants to or has something in their life worth fighting the addiction and stopping. To the question of this topic. I want the government out of my choices of what I do or put in my body RE: Is it time to ban vaping? - Redwingtom - 09-06-2019 12:36 PM (09-06-2019 12:25 PM)Captain Bearcat Wrote:(09-06-2019 08:31 AM)Redwingtom Wrote: Eh...I more lean to letting natural selection work its course. RE: Is it time to ban vaping? - TTT - 09-06-2019 12:39 PM Vaping is quite possibly the most douchiest thing to come out in the past 10 years (unless you're using it for it's original intended use - to ween yourself off cigarettes and quit smoking all together). RE: Is it time to ban vaping? - WKUYG - 09-06-2019 12:54 PM To the argument of medical cost from being a smoker each person is paying around $3.00 a pack for taxes to cover this. Around $75,000 (2 packs a day) over a 35 years. That's at today's taxes so my guess well over $125,000 if a person is 21 years old today. With in the next year or so you will see our state and federal government taxing vape products like they do tobacco...... cash cow that they will not let go, untaxed. Of course these taxes will be in the name of safety for the young kids, yeah, right.
