And the Gerrymander is named after a Democratic governor of Massachusetts from the early 1800s. They've been doing it for 2 centuries.

Are the democrats that live in Texas melting down today?

1) Isn't it funny that the only time "gerrymandering" becomes an issue and is lawsuited all the way to SCOTUS is when it's the GOP doing it? How many times have the demmies gerrymandered in their favor? But I guess that's OK.

Let's not pretend like most Democrats are smart enough to gerrymander. When they have the opportunity, they'll set up a bipartisan commission to create a fair map. When Republicans have the opportunity, they go for the throat.

Quote:2) I've always thought it was "to the winner goes the spoils". If Republicans won elections redistricting should be just like law-making. You win, you get to decide what passes and what doesn't. You write the laws and pass them when you have the majority. Same for maps.

I don't like the idea of Gerrymandering, regardless of who's doing it. It misrepresents the population of a state, even if the viewpoints or voters in that state/district change.

Don't sell the demmies short. They're as ruthless as a great white with blood in the water.

They've done their fair share of gerrymandering in the past, it's just that the GOP didn't run to the courts. Take Illinois. Do you think it's a coincidence that the last time they lost a seat it happened to be Republican districts that were "redrawn" to eliminate a seat and not a democrat one?

They're just better at marketing their deceptions better..... with the help of the MSM claiming nothing to see here, move along.

Did you write this for reals?

Yep. Based off of my limited time spent looking into it, I felt that Democrats were very weak when it came to the practice. Turns out they both go for the throat. I stand corrected. And again, I would prefer the practice to not be used anywhere for either side.

I would put gerrymandering in the same club with tax avoidance versus tax evasion. That's to say, it's not illegal per se and both sides will do it to the point that someone finally screams and takes them to court over it.

Tax evasion is illegal, tax avoidance is not. The laws are supposed to be black and white. But in reality, there are lots of grey areas, which is why there are tax courts and a lot of tax lawyers getting very wealthy.

The Supreme court is wisely deffering to the states.

Not a fan of gerrymandering, but the Constitution gives the rights to draw the districts to the state. The people of each state need to pressure the executive/legislature of their state if they want something different, not the court system.

Racial decisions were the best thing to happen to fights over Gerrymandering ever.

Now we can say that its about race when in truth these fights predate the issue.
