to play their first official game on Thursday? Seems like everyone else has already played at least one game. Why the long delay?? Let's play already!!

I agree. Today I woke up somehow thinking we'd play Austin Peay tonight, and was sooooo disappointed when I realized it was Thursday instead.

Most teams will be on their third game by the time we play our first. It's killing me!

after tonight there will be only 2 D1 teams who haven't played. After tomorrow, we will be the only one.

And this is what has killed us in our early season disappointments in the last few seasons. Go back and look at the last couple of seasons. All our November big games we have played, we have only played 1 game while the rest of the country has 3-4 games under their belt.

they aren't but it gives them a chance to run through their sets, etc. against different styles.

Memphis plays AP Thursday, is there any team in the country that will not have played a "real" game by then? I couldn't find one in looking through D1 teams/standings. I think there were 11 teams going into tonight, but almost all of those have Tuesday games.

We are the last D-1 team to play our first game, there is another thread about like 5 threads down.

Agree- while not going as far as it killed us- it did not seem to help and I remember mentioning this even before Michigan a few years ago.

Of course, our kids started out something like 7-0 before playing Kansas in Joe and company's freshman year- then dropped that game.

Would be much more comfortable traveling to Stillwater with 3 games under our belts.

(and no- people are not pre making excuses- OK State is a really good team- we could play them the 1st, 5th, 10th or last game of the season and it would be a difficult game- although one we can win)

Just seems like having 2-3 games under your belt would help...stats may belie that.

played 7 games before Kansas- lost
09-10 played 1 game before Kansas- lost
08-09 played 4 games before Xavier- lost
07-08 played 2 games before Oklahoma- won
played 3 games before UConn- won
06-07 played 1 game before Oklahoma- won
played 2 games before GTech- lost
05-06 played 1 game before Alabama- won
04-05 played 3 games before Syracuse- lost
03-04 played 0 games before Wake Forest- lost
02-03 played 0 games before Syracuse- won
01-02 played 0 games before Temple- lost

Some older teams-

The 1984-85 team played 4 cupcakes then Fresno State- won
Penny's first team lost their opener to DePaul
The 1973 team played at LSU in the 2d game- lost

After the games of tonight, only us and North Dakota have yet to play. North Dakota opens their season tomorrow night, so that leaves only us.

Not sure why we wait so long. last year we did the same thing and then got our arses handed to us in the preseason tourney.
