On a Friday?

He's a good man who didn't get the job done, unfortunately. I really wish he had succeeded, I like him personally. I hate starting over again and again and again. Nothing to celebrate, folks.

I'd like to see him finish the season.

Why let him finish ? I would like to hear one good argument for that ? I am surprised we didn't do this earlier.

Uhhh the day before a game? Wow. Didn't see that coming.

If we were gonna let him go midseason, why not do it after that disgusting Army game?

I don't get this timing at all. I'll echo what Bob said though: English seemed like a great guy. Wish he could've succeeded here, but his brand of football doesn't work at this level. Best of luck to him.

I have gotten the other impression, I mean how can you like a guy who is constantly leading you into losing ? Unless our players have losing mentality too which I can also see being true if your whole college career you are on one of the worst programs in the country.

Well first, you don't like anyone to lose their job. These guys all have families, so this is not a pleasant thing. That said, I'm sure he and his staff knew pretty early on that this was it, the end of the road, so it is not a shock. But still, I think he was on the right track to changing the losing culture of EMU football with that 6-6 season. Unfortunately, he could not maintain the momentum and when his assistants jumped ship, this season was going to be the disaster it has become.

From conversations with players, they knew this was coming. They knew it was a reality from the loss to Ball State. I'm sure they were mentally prepared for this, it shouldn't come as a shock.

My question is, did English/the staff know earlier than today? Maybe they have word to Ron and the staff during the week, but the press release didn't come out until today. I'm assuming Delagdo will step in as DC. Did he prepare the defense for tomorrow?

No surprise. He would either get fired now or not be renewed at the end of the season. No way that Lyke was going to re-sign him.

I am thinking this would had happened earlier but with the death of a player the timing was t there and then the benching of Hill?

I am thinking that something must had happened that could had voided English contract so they could fire him (with cause) and not worry about violating his contract..

No. If nothing else, the guy is a class act. It was just obvious that he was not getting renewed so Lyke let him walk. Why keep him when everyone in the world knows he wasn't going to coach next year. It is not rocket science.

Don't hire Stan. I witnessed first hand how he destoyed Ball State.

But he coached at Michigan and we'd all heard of him so he must have been good.
