No event could possibly include all optimist clubs in El Paso.

He's not a practical person.... Also, he wants it for free too. ....... Otro..

Frankly, I don't believe T ball should cost a fortune either but according to my friend, it did cost him a couple hundred dollars to get them registered. On top of that, he had to pay a couple hundred for their home and away uniforms. Also, he mentioned a fee he had to pay to go to parent training on how to act at baseball games.

Finally, their are other fees involved which include purchasing baseballs for the games, bats that he purchased for his kids, and snacks that are required for before and after each game. Supposedly, there is even a collection for an end of season party too.

Sounds like a scam to me. I'm glad I have daughters.

Never heard of fundraisers for the team, huh?

Interesting that you should mention that. My friend once explained to me that his kids were on another team ( which will remain nameless) with one coach. After the first season, he split the team in two and asked my friend to coach and fund raise. My friend did and they fund raised several thousand dollars for the upcoming season.

Before the next season, the original coach took the best players on the team and relegated the poor players to my friends team. My friend and his parents were so upset that they decided to form a new team. The coach then told them that the money that was raised belonged to him because he had rights o the team name.

When my friend tried to fight it with the league commissioner, he lost. He had to reinburse the coach for the funds that were spent, the coach confiscated the equipment and the remaining funds were give to the coach.

My friend lost everything. That is why his boys are on a new team.

Little league baseball is cut throat.

seems like you know a lot about your friend, a lot more than you initially tried to portray... Like I said before, cut it out with your bs stories.

Do you honestly think I would make something like that up?

I think it's great news. This isn't new money however. What people fail to see is that the people who likely move into these new apartments are simply relocating from one part of town to another. So while the economy of downtown in that area might improve, the economy from the areas where those people came from will decline.

A perfect example can be seen in the new Fountains establishment. While that area will now thrive, the Best Buy and Barnes and Noble on McCrae has reloacated and that area will now decline.

In the end, the ballpark doesn't solve the overreaching problem of a poor economy in El Paso and it shouldn't be expected to.

I just don't see a reason to spend so much tax payer money in a part of town that is basically run down and doesn't have many residents. The Eastside is the most populated part of town and should receive the lion's share of tax payer money.

This isn't about tax money, this is about getting disposable income spent in El Paso and not out of town. The more money locals spend in El Paso, the less they will spend on vacations. As far as tax revenue goes, tax revenue is increased with added properties and/or more valuable properties, it's not decreased.

Your Best Buy example is not very good. First of all, you assume that no other business will be taking their place and of course that will not happen. Look at the Best Buy that used to be on Gateway west before it moved to Mcrae, isn't that some kind of Palmas Del Sol medical clinic? Electronic stores are always changing locations, this will be the 3rd different location in the past 15 years for that particular best buy. Before Circuit City closed down, both their east side and west side stores changed locations in the final 5 years of their operations. Secondly, the city isn't going to lose tax revenue because those stores are vacant, the property owners will still pay their property taxes until they are able to find new tenants.

If you think people are going to decide to go see the El Paso Chihuahua's play instead of taking a vacation, then I have some property in Horizon I would like to sell you.

not just the team you simpleton... Do you think rent at these high rises is going to cost the same as other apartments? Do you not believe that people will be visiting the downtown entertainment district more often? Look at all the chihuahua gear that is selling, people will start spending more of their disposable income in El Paso and on El Paso, it's simple economics.

Epic cluelessness.

New money or not, it's an investment in the city. It improves the city, its appeal, and helps build momentum.

The Fountains replaced an old eyesore. If nothing else, we got rid of the eyesore. This city would be an unimaginable dump if it ran according to your rules. In fact, that's what kept it behind so long.

As for the downtown investment, it's not going to solve a poor economy (nor does anyone expect it to), but it's a building block.

As for the tax payer money for the stadium, is a done argument, and we're locked in. So stop bittchin.

Infrastructure grows with the population. Putting the lion's share in the Eastside (and I live there), will alienate the rest of the town.

To debate Fitbud logic with Fitbud, tells me I'm using Fitbud logic myself..... bad logic

It's not new money. It's simply a shell game. It's taking money that was being spent in one location and moving it to another location. So now we have a shiney new stadium in downtown but we also have a vacant stadium in Northeast. I'm glad you at least admit that it's not new money.

The Fountains replaced an old eyesore. If nothing else, we got rid of the eyesore. This city would be an unimaginable dump if it ran according to your rules. In fact, that's what kept it behind so long.

The Fountains do in fact replace an eyesore but they create other eyesoars in places where Best Buy and Barnes and Noble once were.

As for the downtown investment, it's not going to solve a poor economy (nor does anyone expect it to), but it's a building block.

It's not a building block. Entire books have been written about the myth that sports stadiums help the economy in any way shape or form.

As for the tax payer money for the stadium, is a done argument, and we're locked in. So stop bittchin.

Fountains is created.

Some stores relocate to fountains i.e BB and BN.

Stores from Wedgewood Plaza move to replace BB and BN at Viscount.

A new CVS replaces all businesses at Wedgewood Plaza.

Is that not new money?

So now Fitbud has a problem with the fountains... Who would have guessed... Some people in El Paso just have no ambition nor the will to move forward.

Fitbud is like a circuit city, he opposes change and forward progress and then all of a sudden... boom, a business like Best Buy comes in and before they know it, it is too late and all that time they spent lollygagging has put them behind the 8 ball and out of business.

Trying to get him to see ANYTHING is useless. Aggie Troll is trolling, and likes doing it. That's his intent all along.

Folks-

The Fitbud posts above show why one should NEVER do drugs. This is how logic, perception, reality, understanding, comprehension, common sense, and fundamental processing of numbers can get AAAAAALL f'd up.

Kids, don't do it!!!

Your understanding of economics is laughable. The new store doesn't bring in new money because the people who shop there are from El Paso.

The store matters not. The money comes from El Paso and goes to the national corporations. 03-lmfao

fitbud, your understanding of economics is what is laughable, I suggest you save every penny you have by avoiding all the "rich dad, poor dad" seminars you attend. The store very much so matters, on the other hand, your inability to comprehend basic economics is what does not matter.

Your lack of understanding on why a business upgrades their locals is amazing. They must just do it just because, no?. I mean, all these people with business degrees don't know what they are doing.

-The new store(s) pay new rent, pay new property taxes, pay new employees

-The new employees pay new taxes, spend new money, etc

Is this not a trickle down effect leading to new tax money and new money being paid and spent?

Trickle down economics? You republicans are all the same. It's called Trickle down because it's nothing but a slow drip.

Another fleecing of El Paso by the good ol boys. Enjoy.

That is not what the "Trickle Down Effect" means. It relates more to the domino affect. NOT seepage. The only seepage here, is what is leaking out of... Well, nevermind.

Fitbud, how the hell did you even get into college? If you used the same logic in your assignments, your papers must've been completely full of fluff, inaccuracies, plagerism, and shet.
