We want out of the SWAC and so do several others schools. We have all but accepted an invite to the MEAC though.

SWAC is run by a complete idiot, so I am not surprised.

To call him an idiot is a complete insult to idiots! He's so much worse than that.04-cheers

ok, IF we add MoSt (or JMU) in all sports (don't know why they aren't being mentioned) and bring NMSU all sports, and keep Idaho football only ....
What does that make the number of teams for olympic sports?

Football would be 12 (split east vs west) with the conference championship game being played at the home field of the team with the best record.

olympics would be 13 or 14? Also would probably be split similar to football lines.

Would that be agreeable to all parties/fans?

UL (or anyone) would you stick around and not actively try to leave the SBC? Not saying you wouldn't jump if asked by the CUSA, but at least not constantly search for another conference?

The day we throw out two of the most respected academic universities in the Conference to accommodate some move-up wannabe cow colleges is the day I no longer want to be associated with this conference.

I want to be clear; I have no objection to us adding a regional university as our 12th member, though I would prefer another national doctoral research school. I just don't want us throwing anyone out to get them, regardless of footprint, and especially if the schools we want to toss are good academic schools, which both Idaho and NMSU are.

It should be important to GaSt to keep the conference as academically relevant as possible; after all, if Idaho and NMSU are gone, that only leaves GaSt, TxSt, UL and USA as National Doctoral Research Universities. With Idaho and NMSU, over half the conference fits in that category.

Forget someone there?

who makes this selection and how does a university make the list?
Basic requirements? Endowment size? number of doctorates offered? etc...
I know GSou is striving to be a top tier research university and moving to the FBS was part of achieving that goal.

In a few years, when the TV contracts catch up (assuming all things stay constant, which is a crazy assumption), they might be.

But the money, the history, the name value, and the bowl tie ins all go to CUSA right now.

Exactly my point. I have no idea what each schools offer. Don't really care. We are talking about football, baseball, basketball, softball, I get that I don't want to be in a conference with DeVry, but does any of this other stuff matter???

We aren't on that list. I think we just became an emerging research. Still have a ways to go. But I agree that you don't kick out strong academic schools.

He is really pushing for Liberty. JMU is the top choice but a lot of that is also what the rest of the conference wants. He will push really hard and try to get schools to change their mind on Liberty if JMU says no IMO.

CUSA lost: Memphis, UCF, Tulsa, ECU, Houston, Tulane, SMU...they backfilled from the SBC and FCS...their TV money will drop.

Short term, not sure if it will be that way 3 years from now. Not sure if both conferences will be alive 3 years from now.
