BACK TO BOWEN CANCELLED
http://www.emueagles.com/news/2013/10/21...35640.aspx
Very disappointed to see these games cancelled. So much marketing went into getting people excited and interesting in coming to these games and now all of that goes wasted.
These decisions should have been discussed and carefully thought out and planned prior to making this an official event. "Due to unanticipated issues relating to Bowen Field House, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics made the decision to relocate the 'Back to Bowen' events to the Convocation Center." This is a very weak and broad explanation and is not enough for this alumni.
Part of me wonders if this may be in anyway linked with the death of D Reed and the now "amped up" security and safety around campus.

I doubt that’s the case. It probably has to do with updating Bowan’s electrical system or something technical. A lack of interest could also be the case as well.

I was a not fan of this from the start and many boosters were not happy ether. My guess is that it has a lot to do with seating.

Simple... we were going to lose a lot of money and make almost nothing on this. Smart decision.

And once again, not true. Has to do with seating? What? Seating 500 in a 7,000 seat arena is better how? Everybody has their own row?
The boosters and alumni were very excited, it was going to be the only games many were going to attend.

Once again very true. 50 rows 50 people what a waste.

RE: BACK TO BOWEN CANCELLED
As an alumni I would have loved to attend but the games were on random days, and people who work, have responsibilities or live far would have had a hard time attending. I was one of them.
Now I am thinking at loud here. I think that the costs of this became extremely high and the ticket sales were not going to return the spending. I mean why else would they cancel this ? This would have been a sweet event. My other guess is that it became very impractical.
Muprhy's team would have to practice there a little bit for it to even be a home court advantage. Syracuse guys are HUGE on that and winning home games. I wouldn't be surprised if the coaching staff sat down and realized that they have a bigger chance winning at the Convo which I think is very true.

The project was done before she came aboard and then seemed to be mothballed and then resurrected and then cancelled.
kind of like on-off-on-off.

I am starting to ask myself questions about our new AD, but I don't have inside information on why she is or isn't doing anything about certain issues pertaining to EMU..

NuPudge:
There are only two top issues (more or less) on her plate:
1). The 'Back to Bowen' which was started before she was named. She has acted on that.
2). Coach English. Whatever his short-term or medium-term status is it has been dramatically altered by Reed's death. As I have posted elsewhere Coach English's status probably will be determined, more likely, by Dr. Martin and maybe some regents than by the AD. This is 'management by committee' but some in the committee have a lot more power than others in the committee. My guess is that Dr. Martin and Regent Stapleton are the key players. Any decision to relieve English of his duties would probably be made by Martin and concurred by Stapleton.

Huge blunder. Just out of curiosity, how many other DI schools have a female AD? Not sure how I feel about this (well actually I do, but I'm not saying).

Rutgers, Cal, and our good buddies on the other side of the state, all have female AD's, among others.
Are you really suggesting she isn't fit for the job because of her gender? Come on.
Female ADs have been in vogue for some time.

The composition of the regents has changed since English was hired. I'm not sure Stapleton is the major decision maker in this situation.

I'll try to get some info but one of my sources is out of town.
He is very good with knowing folks in high places and having good sources.
That said, I assume Dr. Martin is the key individual, not a Regent and not even the AD.
As has been publicly reported, Dr. Martin and AD Lyke were at the game together at Army, I believe.

Stapleton was censured by the Regent's Executive Committee about a year ago. He was told to stay out university hiring procedures and how and to whom contracts are awarded.

I doubt he has any power left. In addition if you want to read a little about this guy google The Michigan Chronicle along with his name, Freeman Hendrix, etc. Good Reading.

No I am not suggesting that. I am simply asking the question because I have NEVER heard of a successful athletic department being run by a woman. If I am missing one, let me know. I am so sick of your holier than thou attitude, especially since you are rarely correct on most of your awesome observations. I obviously hit a sore spot with you. Btw, I also press mute when Pam Ward announces football games on TV, if you're wondering.
