Prepare to see lots of parity in the SEC. IF they can own their OOC it won't matter.
It does matter. How many losses do you think the teams will be able to have in order to earn an invite into the 4 team National Tournament.
Florida State
Oregon
Ohio State
Baylor
What if all four go undefeated? Sure Alabama has just as much of a chance and yet they still have to play LSU, Auburn and Tennessee.
Ohio State and Baylor seem pretty free and clear to the end. Yes there still are some challenges for Baylor but you could compare their performance against ISU against some other performances against ISU and I am pretty sure one could reasonably say that Baylor is the best team in the Big 12.
This situation is a trend and we can see how it could very likely not work in the favor of the SEC. More and more parity means more losses at the top. One loss could be enough to keep the SEC out. Arguably, the Committee might put a one loss SEC Champion into the Tournament over an undefeated squad such as this year's Ohio State. That would be a huge statement to make though and I doubt those folks are willing to put out an undefeated squad from one of the Major Conferences, even if that is a team from the loathed Big Ten.
I don't see how their OOC games matter when it is the chaos happening During the SEC conference schedule that is doing the harm.
Oregon has to get by Stanford. Ohio State has only Michigan left and their issue is SOS as the rest of the Big 10 is lacking woefully. No offense He1nous but Iowa acquitted themselves well today and the Buckeyes were unimpressive again. It is such a 1 dimensional team it won't matter who they play in a major bowl. Right now F.S.U., Baylor, Oregon, or Alabama would handle them with relative ease.
Alabama and Missouri are still undefeated and Missouri is looking pretty strong. You do realize that if they get by South Carolina at home next week they will be favored in every game until they finish with A&M and that game will be interesting.
South Carolina was woeful again today and now Conner Shaw is injured. Tennessee played better but they aren't anywhere close to beating Alabama so you can forget about that one. Auburn could get up for Bama and create some problems for the Tide. But as big a fan as I am of the Tigers I wouldn't bank on that.
Alabama started slowly and beat soundly, but not as impressively as people thought they should, a very stout Virginia Tech team with a stellar defensive unit. You sell the Tide short.
As for Baylor and Texas Tech, Baylor looks real, but still hasn't played a decent defensive team. I'm reserving judgement until they've beaten Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas Tech, not to mention a fairly good Oklahoma State. There is a lot of football left to play. The ACC, SEC, and Big 12 each have two unbeaten teams left. The Big 10 has a somewhat solid 1. The PAC has an Oregon team that has not proven yet that it can defeat Stanford. Some of the spoilers are now gone. It's a bit early to bury any conference at this time except for most of the Big 10. Miami has to play Florida State so the ACC can not have more than 1. Everyone in the Big 12 plays each other so they are can not have more than 1. Only the SEC if Missouri and Alabama can win out could be guaranteed at least 1. We'll see.
The only thing you can say at this point is that it is now likely that we will have at least 2 unbeaten teams at the end of the year, but is also still very possible to have none. You can also say that the number of 1 loss programs is shrinking drastically. It's going to be a wild finish.
