don't even come out with that bs. You try to agitate no matter what. You, Yourself said that you always want to come out with opposing opinions. If it's not UTEP, it's the city, you are ridiculous.

Exactly. Opposing opinions as in opinions that suggest that we don't have to settle for second best. It's time our city demand better than we are getting.

I can't believe that you would be happy about how our University underacheives in sports.

As for me, I'm going to continue to hold them to a higher standard.

Noone said they're happy about the team's results.

You certainly like to do that.

Once again, YOU DEMAND, but YOU want 5 dollar tickets. Hilarious!!!

I'm not demanding anything. I'm simply supporting or not supporting depending on the quality of the produce.

If they are good, I will support. If they are not. I won't.

Actually, it's a $12 dollar ticket and it's a family of four. When you consider concession on top of that, I easily spend $100 at the game.

Given that fact, it is very difficult to convince my family that it is worth going to the games when they continue to lose.

I realize that some of you are die hard fans. If I was thinking only of myself, I wouldn't mind spending the money to see all the games.

However, my wife and kids are not big enough football fans to go see the Miners lose if they know they can use that money to go out to dinner and a movie.

The whole world does not revolve around sports. At least not for my wife and kids.

UTEP would be much more secure financially if every El Paso family attended just one game together. This is a UTEP specific fan board though. The expectations are a little higher of the fans. We do expect other die hards to attend most games. I don't have those same expectations at other non UTEP boards. Context is everything.

That is a fair statement. It's a cart before the horse kind of thing I guess.

Where as you and others like you hold fans to a higher standard, I hold the school to a higher standard.

You might say that if there was more fan support, athletics would be better.

I say however that if there was better athletics, there would be more fan support.

El Paso is a financially strapped town. Most families of four cannot afford to go out every weekend. Therefore, they aren't going to spend their money on a UTEP game if there is a likelyhood that they are going to lose.

The day I can find a parking spot at Cinemark on a Friday night is when I'll worry about what El Paso can afford. I'll worry about what the average family of four can afford when there isn't a two hour line for the latest 3D animated movie. When Big Foot no longer draws 50K on back to back nights. Etc. Etc. The money is here. We just need everyone to go to the Sun Bowl once a year.

RE: The Official Downtown Baseball Stadium Discussion Thread
I became a die hard fan while I was in the military (1988-1991).

I realized that the only time anyone outside of Texas heard of El Paso (at the time), was when the Miner bball team was on TV. Announcers bragged about how much El Paso loved its Miners.

Anyway, I left the military, and came home to watch teams with players like Ralph Davis, Eddie Rivera, Johnny Melvin, and so on. Then the next generations came.

My hope is that if enough die hards are there, the program becomes a place where blue chippers want to play based on support, huge crowds, big-time feel at events, and so on.

My issue with the fair-weathered fans is that what I described above will never happen without it.

Other fans want success first. Chicken/egg argument, but unwavering support IMHO needs to come first.

So you aren't native to El Paso?

I sympathize with your wish. Unfortunately, it's not just fan support or lack their of that keeps UTEP from being elite. It's geography.

Before you became a fan, Don Haskins had the Miners ranked regularly in the 80's. Even then, the Miners got recognition in the polls but rarely got rewarded in the tournament.

If I recall correctly, we were once ranked number 3 in the nation and earned a first round bye but were forced to play UNLV in UNLV in the second round. Not what you would expect for a #3 team.

Another year, we had to play Arizona in Arizona. We won that game but again, not what you would expect for a tournament game.

That is the meanest chihuahua I've ever seen.

I can't wait to walk into a bar with a El Paso Chihuahua's hat on to see what happens.

Looks like a dog to me.

Even though I know what a sun dog is, I would think a sun dog mascot will still be a K9

So did City Council agree to move the price of the stadium up to 74 million?
