Crowd officilly 32,200. It was strong for the 1st half.... just wished people would have stuck around for more of the game.

I totally agree about people staying for the whole game, but let's just realize that this game 5 years ago gets about 14,000 with maybe 9,000 butts in the seats. Does need to improve, but it's a step in the transformation of the fan base. Definitely looking forward to getting back to Nippert for the first time in a couple years next week!

Huh, 5 years ago, BK is our coach and we are headed to the Orange Bowl and every game is a sellout. When you post, please do your research first so you don't look foolish.

5 years ago our opening game had an attendance of 26,913. So no, not every game was a sellout. When you post, please do your research first so you don't look like a confrontational douchebag.

maybe he meant 8-9 years ago? do we have to be super specific exact?? I think people knew that he meant. "back in the day" 30k would have been outstanding. and impossible. so last night was certainly a great crowd. hopefully we sell out for Homecoming next week and SMU and Louisville should sell out too

RE: Temple Game Thread
The truth of the matter is that we won't sell out a conference game because of the lack of traveling fans in the conference we are in. I would expect all games outside of Louisville to have a roughly 32-34k attendance and that northwest section of the stands to be completely empty.

5 years ago, 10 years ago, you know what I meant. Geez, hyper critical aren't we? The point is the program's come a long way, just gotta keep improving and moving forward.

And yes I was still an undergrad 5 years ago, but it feels like it was a lot longer than that.

Agree. Penalties negated a ton of huge plays. Most of the penalties I saw were our overmatched offensive linemen holding to make up for their lack of ability/strength.

Exactly. Back in my day as a student at UC 30,000 in the Nip would have been a rare celestial occurrence. Take the positives and keep building upward! BTW, can we please stop the personal attacks? We're all Bearcat Fans..........

I agree. The gist is the program is still doing well despite a disappointing season early on. We are light years ahead of where we were 10 years ago. And the trajectory stills seems to be going up.

Kay was 31-37, outstanding. Defense had some issues in the first half. Temple isn't good but nice too see
UC put up 38 which is the most points scored against them this year. Need to clean up some penalties.
Tion had a real game also.

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the one long run by Walker happened because Jordan was afraid of getting tagged for a horse collar tackle and let him slip by for a lot more yards.

I hope Green works enough to supplant RDA4 as starter. My ideal scenario is for Green to bludgeon the defense, and RDA4 to juke them, once they are tired. Seems his best runs of the night followed Green being in there.

I was disappointed in that too. Gran had the offense very sharp tonight (outside of the penalties), but come on - victory formation is Football 101.

That has been driving me crazy since week 2-3. Other than that, the offense was very enjoyable to watch.

That is what happens when the WRs block people down field. They did block in the back on a couple, but I will take that over completely whiffing, any day. May cost a few more yards, but at least it shows they are willing to play a little bit.

Along the same line, the end-around to Chris Moore going for a big gain is how it is supposed to look. Blocking people tends to make a huge difference.

Good post Rath (my comments in red)

(10-12-2013 07:25 AM)rath v2.0 Wrote:  Call it what it was,, sort of an FCS game to work on things. Temple is horrid. Yes, other than a couple players (like their LB who reminded me a bit of Shaeffer). The QB was someone they have never seen, so I'll give the first half defense a bit of a pass. They did much better in the 2nd, but the big gains off-tackle are still disconcerting.

Progress, though. I will take it. Yes. I hope they slay the penalties dragon pretty soon, though.

FINALLY figured out what we all knew...namely Green is the best option. I have posted this a couple times - hammer them with Green, tire their legs, then let RDA4 juke them. Green's physical runs will definitely help RDA4.

Lots more empty backfield sets. And they were effective. Quicker pace but not there yet.

Kay put in better positions to do what he does well. He looked like a point guard out there, calmly surveying his options, while staying mobile. Definitely more relaxed. Needs to stay healthy.

Better special teams play. Miliano needed that FG in the worst way. If it took that 44-yarder to bolster his confidence, then I really did not mind us not punching it in that time.

Still a ton of mental mistakes. Sloppy at times. Yep, tired of the penalties.

BTW...Nippert sounded like a morgue most of the night. Strange watching on TV. Although packed, seemed people were sitting on their hands waiting for something good to happen.

RE: Temple Game Thread
A win is a win. I thought the offense was pretty sharp except for penalties as mentioned. I honestly think most of that is that our OL is just not that good and they are doing anything they can to try to block defenders. I've been really hard on Gran but I thought the offensive gameplan last night was very good. We've clearly found our starting RB and the mix of short to intermediate passes was very effective. No complaints whatsoever.

The defense was disappointing, though. We gave up big gains on simple TB iso plays all night. Obviously pleased with the 2nd half shutout but they were made to look bad several times against a bad Temple team. The Temple QB has some tools, though, and looks like he's going to be a good one.
