The local sports radio show here in Nashville (yes, the Clay Travis one) went to Bristol last year on a promo, and they already had a scaled replica of how they were going to pull off the football game. They've been planning it for a while; they just needed the teams to sign on. I'm sure they will be bringing in huge screens so the cheap seats will be able to see some semblance of the game. This will definitely be an "I was there" even as opposed to a quality viewing experience, but that's fine as long as 150,000 people feel that way.

It will be a blast to attend and I plan on going. If that makes me a "sheep" so be it. It will make for a better environment and more entertaining than any Memphis football game ever will be.

A terrible venue to watch a football game from. However, it should sellout.

How many temp seats could they add around the infield without obstructing views from the stands

Looks like the closest seats will be at least twice as far from the field as the closest seats in a football stadium that has a track-and-field track around it.
Compare this photoshop vision of what the VT-Tenn game will look like with a photo of Kansas' football stadium.

None. Any infield seats added will block somebody's view...

I still like the idea.
It's not much different than watching basketball in a dome or the NHL Winter Classic.
What they need to do though is either add some permanent jumbotrons, or talk to the guys at WWE who are pretty good at setting up temporary sets up and makeshift screens.
They set this up in Met Life Stadium in NY
This was in Miami at Sunlife Stadium
And the Citrus Bowl in Orlando
But this is actually a smaller scale (playing surface to stands) and it is made to be more than acceptable for viewers, and they draw 70,000 plus every year. I am not sure if the over-the field-structure would be cost prohibitive due to size, for a temporary structure or not, but if it can be made, that would solve the viewing issues. Or set up giant screens over the endzone stands, or sacrifice 20,000 seats and build a massive wall like the one above in Orlando. Either way, do these, and it can easily draw again after the novelty is gone since it would be both an event, and you can actually see it.

...i've thought this would be a great idea for years... if VT would end up in the SEC, it would be a cool 'season-ender' for both...

Here is another "artist's rendering" of what a football field inside the speedway might look like.
The Bristol spokesman said today that sightlines would be good but fans would be 10-20 yards farther back than in a football stadium. That sounds about right.

I live near the Tri-Cities and have been to the Bristol night race and it rocks. My one issue with this is that Tennessee postponed the Nebraska game. It would have been great to play both in 2016.

Perfect border war for a boreder town; Bristol is in both states. Will be a cool atmosphere. Surprised VT/UT have not played more often. Just like I have always wondered why UT/WVU have not played.

That is really stretching the truth (10-20 yds)...look at the end zones. It looks hideous.

There will be seats where the only viewing of the game will be TV screens.

Maybe they are comparing it to the Los Angeles Colesium prior to the addition of temp seats?

No, the LA Coliseum seats, even those that aren't really good seats, are much, much closer than the comparable seats at Bristol will be. Among other things, the track at the Coliseum took up much less room than the auto track at Bristol.
