Bruce Pearl makes Cal look like a Pentecostal preacher. Pearl has character flaws way beyond Cal's, and as the old saying goes, "the leopard can't change his spots."

How is that even possible? 04-jawdrop

Yeah, that would be great. The probation that would soon follow, not so much.

RE: Bruce Pearl at FedExForum for Memphis Madness
Pearl is an exceptionally good coach & evaluator of talent. He's a very good color analyst too.

Pearl has been slimy his entire career though - as an assistant and as a head coach. His show cause is through next summer & I'd expect he'll land in '15-'16 at a Div I lower level team that is a bit desperate.
He'll be ~55 so his time window for Div I is starting to wind up.

Pearl won't ever coach at a top tier Div I school - it would be too embarrassing to most of the admin, alum and boosters. Brad Martin wouldn't even consider Pearl, rightly so.

RE: Bruce Pearl at FedExForum for Memphis Madness
Logic could simplify this discussion. (1) Memphis isn't in the market for a men's basketball coach. (2) The vast majority of coaches in Division I are guilty of the very same infractions Bruce Pearl was fired over. They simply haven't gotten caught yet. (3) Bruce Pearl is a proven coach which is precisely what the University of Texas needs. (4) Josh Pastner has not proven himself as yet. He still lacks success against ranked opponents and isn't credited with any deep runs in the NCAA tournament. (5) Within the limitations of this discussion, Pearl is the only coach to fit the criteria.

Maybe most coaches have done what Pearl initially did, but they were smart enough to fess up and keep their jobs. I like a good douche from time to time, but I'm over having one as a basketball coach.

As previously stated, "(1) Memphis isn't in the market for a men's basketball coach." Bruce Pearl isn't needed at Memphis and the possibility of his coming to Memphis is remote. I don't think you have any reason to worry.

Missj, this is one of your best posts ever. Memphis would be short one booster if Pearl was hired here. I agree that it would never happen.

But Pearl would be our scum bag - like Calipari was.

RE: Bruce Pearl at FedExForum for Memphis Madness
I'm only saying this b/c he is not the coach of the hillbillies anymore- The guy is great at getting under achievers to produce- I.E.- that damn Ewww-T team that beat us in the #1-#2 game. He had far less talent on his roster than we did. The guy will be great whereever he coaches. He'll have a big job in a year or two.

However, he is NOT the guy for our job, nor will he ever be. Our job has a guy filling it and he has been fantastic so far. 5 years in he has had enormous success recruiting and by most collegiate standards, coaching success. Yeah he's came up short in the NCAA and has won 1 game. He came in with little to work with and got the job done. Pastner has kept Memphis as an elite program.
