RE: Scheduling Mismatches
While most of us would prefer more P5-P5 games, there is no central control over scheduling. Only the conference commissioners can push for that, and so far only Delaney has moved. That's only the Big 10 vs, Baby Seals (FCS) issue, not the Big 10-MAC.

There is zero excuse for powers playing FCS schools. I know its because they can pay 400-500k instead of 900k-$1.2 million, but those schools don't need the extra cash. And they lose some $ from no-shows who would have spent money on concessions and parking.

There isn't any excuse for an Ohio St. to play a bottom of the barrel MAC team either. They can beat the top MAC teams comfortably, let alone the middle.

RE: Scheduling Mismatches
I believe the playoff system next year will take care of this. I think we will ultimately see an end of FCS v FBS games. Although we will miss out on the rare NDSU beating Kansas State and App State beating Michigan...for every one of those rarities we get 50 blowouts like Ohio State pushing FAMU around. I'm okay with G5 playing P5, but ultimately in the new playoff era there will more risk than reward to schedule those games.

There are other teams that could run up the score but they chose not to.

Your whining is amusing.

By the way, besides bench warmers getting the lion share of playing time in that game, Urban even played the backup kicker the entire second half.

your not address the issue is not surprising. Playing a backup kicker in the second half has nothing to do with going for 2pts on 3 of the first 4 TDs scored at home vs inferior opponents. Its a totally classless move and you know it.

I know that going for two is more difficult than the easy one-point kick.

Props for the classic whining.

If Urban Meyer does it against everyone, I'd agree with you about the whining. If he doesn't do it against the better teams in the B1G, then he's a jerk trying to run up the score on an inferior opponent...

I'm going to wait for the verdict on this, since Ohio State is done with their cupcake games. They have #23 Wisconsin coming up next in Columbus, and then they travel to #17 Northwestern. Let's see what Urban does in those games. That will tell us the whole story...

Neither returned his call.

Smart move on Michigan's part, given how Michigan has looked in its last two games...

It is funny to see all of the Ohio State fans that once whined about Urban Meyer being classless at Florida now declaring that he has brought SEC football to Ohio State. SEC football is not about embarrasing FCS opponents...that's just Meyer being his usual douche self.

Oh, I'm in no way defending Meyer… he's that personality type that people hate when he is not on their side and tolerated when he is on their side.

It's the idea that someone is running up the score after the first touchdown that I find bewildering.

When they go for 2 against an opponent that has a chance to beat them, it's not. But when they do it against a team that everyone knows doesn't stand a chance to score, it's running up the score, and a classless move...

Had they won the game by a TD or 2, I'd see no problem. But when they do it against a team they clobber 76-0, it's means a jerk with no class what so ever is running the program...

But is it "running up the score" if it happens when the score is 6-0?

One other quirk. Did you know that when blowing out a team, it is considered "running up the score" to kick a field goal? You are actually supposed to punt or go for it on fourth down, in terms of not embarrassing a team.

When you do it twice in a row against a team you know has very little chance of scoring a single point in a game - yes...

RE: Scheduling Mismatches
You can't have 7 home games in a 12 game schedule playing P5 vs. P5 exclusively. It's not mathematically possible, unless someone gets only 5 home games.

Playing a road game instead of a 7th home game costs the largest P5 programs millions of dollars. We know this because they're willing to pay G5 teams a million dollars to play them in their own stadium without a return game. FCS opponents typically get about half the amount that G5 teams are paid. This is not charity, nor is it even an attempt to rack up easy wins most of the time. It's business.

G5 teams which accept one of the big payouts from a P5 member have to balance that by scheduling a FCS team in order to preserve a 6/6 home/away split. Max scholarship FCS teams that get the games vs. FBS typically resign themselves to 5 home games, unless they pay a partial- or non-scholarship FCS team for a home game without a return game. The non-schollies sometimes schedule a D2 if they're short on home games, and so on.

This is why we have the situation we have. Good luck convincing one of these teams that sells 100k tickets per game to give up 1/7th of their annual ticket and concessions revenue, all because a lopsided score in football is somehow more upsetting to people than blowouts in other sports. Duke has scheduled 10 home games, 4 neutral site games, and 0 road games in their non-conference basketball schedule. That doesn't happen without paying some teams off. At least Michigan Football played 25% of its non-conference games on the road.

I'm sure there are quite a few coaches that envisioned the complete destruction of their FCS opponent… perhaps Bill Snyder, Paul Rhoads, Paul Pasqualoni, Mike Riley or Skip Holtz.

RE: Scheduling Mismatches
even worse than the 2pt conversions by Meyer are the FOUR 4th down conversions against FAMU.

On a drive that started with 7:27 minutes left in the 1st quarter with the Buckeyes already up 20-0(missed 2pt conversion) Meyer decides to go for it on 4th down TWICE inside the FAMU 25yd line, including a 4th and 8 from the 11. Let that sink in for a minute.

Then he went for it on 4th and 5 on the FAMU 30 in the 2nd quarter, up 48-0. Why give your kicker game time practice with a 47yd attempt when you can be a total dick and go up by 8 TDs before halftime?

Then OSU gets the ball on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter and goes for a 4th and 4 on the FAMU 33, already up 55-0.

Urban Myer has NO CLASS.

I don't like the FCS games, but at least Clemson only plays in-state FCS schools. That way the money stays in-state. No sense in importing a FCS team from out of your state or region.
