I think we would all do better in recruiting if we had a hostess club that's primary focus was to diddle visiting prospects. Undoubtedly this goes on at other institutions but after reading a more detailed account of this particular allegations you can gather that it was well established. I wasn't aware of the other offenses. I'm sure a hand slap is warranted here

The college game I grew to love has evolved into a sleeze ball with money as it's main object. It might be about time for this old man to move to greener pastures.

Nah, it's always been that way. You're just growing older and more cynical.

Actually not only that but now with social media we hear and see EVERYTHING that goes on now. There are not secrets.

RE: Looks Like Someone's In Trouble...
This line here by Mickens in the first part of the story is BS garbage.

"At the time he didn't consider that he was violating NCAA rules. He saw other teammates receiving similar gratuities and assumed they were the perks of playing for a big-time program."

From the moment your first foot steps on campus at every school (well except maybe Miami) you have compliance officers beating into their heads about this. Not accepting straight up cash is - let' see - a pretty f'n obvious. The lies people are willing to tell never cease to amaze me. Mickens knew damn well that was a violation.

BTW, this looks as bad as SMU's 80's pay for play scandal.

One other thing I want to mention right up front. If the NCAA or anyone else thinks paying players a $2000 stiped or whatever number they come up with is going to stop this they are absoulutley delusional. That will not stop this!

RE: Looks Like Someone's In Trouble...
This could kill OkSt. Here is why. Back when Petrino got into that mess in Arkansas I remember Musberger and Herbstriet had T. Boone Pickens up in the booth. During the course of the interview they asked him his feeling on Petrino and how Arkansas handled it. He said that the one thing he told OkSt that he would continue to give them money so long as they never embarrassed him. And he said what happened in Arkansas would have emabarrassed him. If this is found to be true and OkSt gets hit by the NCAA Pickens may walk.

We have more starving Division I college football players. I had no idea. This is turning into a national tragedy. We have to do something...

"There were some athletes who were almost starving," says Carter. "Wherever the money came from, they were like, Yeah, I'll take that."

The NCAA will not do anything to one of their big time programs. Now if this were Marshall etc it would be different. Look at North C they have gotten no trouble etc for all the things that have rolled out of Chapel Hill lately. 03-puke

Interesting that one of the prominent OSU assistants mentioned in the story is Joe DeForest, a former Rice assistant years ago when he was first starting out as a coach. Just seeing that name, let me just say that I believe the story to be 100 pct true.

P5 should know that where you have a lot of money, there are people that will do
whatever they can to leverage it for their own benefit. Am sure this is not the only
thing going on right now.

I was thinking the same thing. What do you think is going on at LSU right now?

Oklahoma State is expendable. It's not like it's Oklahoma, Texas or Michigan. They're going to get butchered. Too many corroborating accounts from former players who apparently have no problem screwing over the institution that provided all that cash. Even the NCAA probably can't screw this one up.

It's one thing to hear bs on a bbs...entirely another for a reputable mag to come with this.

This is monstrous and will shock the gp that just 'tune-in'

The trickle-down is going to be the end result of fail....so much irony already in me mind

RE: Looks Like Someone's In Trouble...
Did a little digging on this myself. One of the writers on this article has a checkered past of writing without confirming facts and also has a history with Oklahoma State writing other anti-OSU slants. The other author seems to have a cleaner background.

One thing of note that concerns me about the story is the authors reference three individuals in the scheme who are now dead.

Additionally, it looks like all the people doing the talking were kicked off the team in the past. The investigative key to this thing is going to be the assistant coach (DeForest). If they can't pin him down on anything with proof the money part of this might not go anywhere. The recent Johnny Manziel incident is now a precedent. Without firm proof any information gleaned from interviews is essentially irrelevant even with corroborating stories (apology for contradicting my earlier comment-never a slam dunk with the NCAA).

Will be interesting to read the rest of this. Will be looking to see if the authors undo their own work they have introduced today.

...for shites and gigs...take it to the point of the 'death penalty' scenario

does the gp side with whom? ...all that matters today, right? Vick can tell you all about it....

NCAA: Oklahoma State, have you learned your lesson from your internal investigation?
OSU: Yes sir
NCAA: Okay, stick out your wrist *slap*
OSU: That's it?
NCAA: Yep, carry on
