PSU note
I happened to see that frosh Christian Hackenberg will start for PSU tomorrow.

Hackenberg was Austin Stone's QB last year at Fork Union Military Academy.

Tomorrow's PSU game vs. 'Cuse should be interesting with a true frosh QB.

RE: PSU note
Future EMU opponent, Army, did not look good Friday night against a weak Morgan State.

WMU looked fairly good against a strong defensive, but offensively challenged MSU team. The WMU road unis are borrrrrrrrrrrring.

One MAC team to watch today is Buffalo who some think is better than most think. Our game with UB will not as easy as many think and UB probably will be favored at home.

The two weakest opponents on our schedule this year are Howard and Army.

I expect the sanctions to start negatively affecting PSU. Don't know if we'll see it this season or next.

It is possible that PSU did it with smoke and mirrors last year.

We'll see when PSU goes up against a B1G power if they can play against the big boys.

BTW, I don't like Hackenberg.

I saw his h.s. game last year. He is tall and kind of like a statue.

He will struggle against teams with active DLs and blitzers. Not mobile.

I watched some small parts of the PSU/'Cuse game.

Hackenberg looked a lot better than I predicted.

I still would like to see him play against a strong DL.

Unfortunately if the Howard game is any indicator EMU continues to struggle with both pass rushing and effective blitzs.

EMU didn't blitz much. Correct?

No reason to show too much.

RE: PSU note
Dear Friends,
As I said in my initial thread of the Howard game, Eastern did not want to show too many wrinkles with the offense for the Pennsylvania State scouts. Now on the other hand, I don't know if we will show something (like a reverse), or not, but I'm sure Pennsylvania State didn't want to reveal much either. My point? Well this will be a game to see where we really stand. Even with a loss, and a score of 24-17, I would say progress is being made, but if it is similar to what happened to Central this past week-end, it could be a long season.

I’m pretty sure that PSU wasn’t hiding anything from EMU. They don’t need to considering how poor of a defense Eastern has.

Dear wolverineeagle,
Please, let's not show that arrogance that comes out of Ann Arbor. Do you really believe that the Pennsylvania State coaches are taking Eastern that lightly? If, they are, they are going to set themselves up to being surprised. I am not making any excuses for Eastern's defensive play, but maybe Howard was better than anyone thought. This was only the first game of the season, with many more to play. So, until more are played, no one really knows how good one team will be vs. another.

EMU has not had a winning season in 18 seasons so history tells us that EMU will field yet another poor football team. Just looking at the game itself, EMU’s defense is poorly coached and lacks athleticism. EMU lack's the speed at WR to stretch PSU’s defense. It isn’t arrogance to call a spade a spade and that is what I am doing here.

PSU 45, EMU 7. I think that is a reasonable expectation we can have for this game.

Dear wolverineeagle,
Were you at the Howard game? Eastern has very fast wide receivers. Two, who also participate on the track team.
History tells you what happened in the past, but is not an absolute when it comes to predicting the future. So, in my opinion you are applying that Big Ten arrogance to Eastern. What you are saying, is for me to say that because Ohio State has beaten Michigan nine out of the last ten football games, that they are guaranteed to win this year too.

Actually there was a decent amount in the Howard game using both DB and LB, we didn't do it effectively. Yes we had three sacks I believe against Howard but again Penn State will be a much higher level of competition. As you recall pass rush was a weak point from last season.

RE: PSU note
I'm having trouble with this game (EMU / PSU) for a couple reasons:

1). PSU is not a dominant team this year. They struggled with Syracuse which isn't a great team (either).

2). I expect PSU to sleepwalk through the game.

This game could be a low keyed affair maybe something like 49 - 21.

PSU won't be breathing fire like L'ville did against Ohio. I think a LOT of folks expected L'ville to come out to make a statement before a national audience.

In no way can you compare UM and OSU who have comparable resources to PSU and EMU who do not have comparable resources. EMU is at a distinct disadvantage in these games.

It is their first home game. Because of that I expect PSU to come out plenty fired up.
