^Something like that, might be fun for the first quarter but ODU will run out of gas.

Not so sure about that...Opening games tend to have some lackluster offensive performances. I really have no idea what to expect out of this game.

That is pretty much how I see it. Less overall depth will probably be the difference. ODU should be game for a while though like Appy State was last year.

... something something, team of 1 is always better than 1's of a team.
This year, (as has been missing the last 3 years) ECU is one team. THAT is the intangible that we have been missing.
ECU Defense is going to be the story in this and many more games this year. Risk Smith is the cog that has been missing.

subterfuge! odu should borrow Marshall's jerseys without the names on 'em. It'll be the 2nd qtr before they figure out what's goin' on.

I just think that it is going to be a hot night and eventually ECU's depth is going to wear ODU down. First games are always shaky.

ODU would be better off borrowing USM's uniforms. Btw, I have USM finishing in 2nd ahead of Marshall this season. MTSU is the darkhorse. They could finish anywhere between 1st and 4th. They are just a total mystery to me at this point.

""I don't think I'm overstating this: We're clearly overmatched in this game in all three phases and we'll need to get some help from East Carolina to stay in this game," Wilder said. "We're going to have to play as close to perfect as we can, from our standpoint. But you never know what happens. We'll roll the ball out at 7:05 and see.""

Call me an optimist, but I think ECU jumps all over them from the opening whistle. I think the offense has a field day and the D shows some ballz in the first half. The second half is where it gets close (all too familiar) and ECU pulls away at the end. I won't be happy with anything less than +14. First game jitters aside, this team SHOULD absolutely obliterate ODU, but certainly won't because that's the way we do things...

If you're talking about the ones from last year, I fervently hope that we burned 'em.

Wait, what? Is he........no he couldn't. Yes, he is! He is really trying to get our guys to relax and not take them seriously.
Coach Wilder, nice try, but as the the saying goes, that ain't happen. Our coaches are pushing the guys hard and have them focused. They want even joke with fans, this team is as focused as any I've seen. They aren't sleeping on anyone.

99, Of course it is standard coach speak, and the reality of the situation is that it is exactly what BW should be publicly saying. This is clearly the biggest test an ODU football team has ever faced, both in the team on the field and the Pirate home field advantage. It is going to be a tough game.
That said, I think we both know sports well enough to know that a different message is being communicated to the players behind closed doors. It goes something like this. "We can win this game. Each one of you win your individual battle with the guy across from you, and we can steal one here" -- and these guys are competitors who are used to winning -- they believe it.
ECU should win this game, but this Monarch team is not making the trip thinking they have no chance to win. They will be ready, and if for some reason the Pirates are not, it will make an interesting evening.
See you there.

ODU will probably **** in their pants when they walk into our stadium. They've never seen or played more than 20-25k anywhere in a stadium I'd imagine if we are their first FBS school with a bunch of freshman. We aren't Campbell or some of these other places you were playing.

**** their pants or soak it up and get even more pumped. I'm of the personality type that when I get in front of something like that I get even more amped. If there is something intimidating in front of me I get more rise out of it and makes me want to charge at it, not away from it. But then again I'm kind of an adrenaline junky.
