Quoted from source above:

"Williams is a rising senior who caught 52 passes last season and is ranked No. 4 in school history with 140 career receptions and 1,733 yards. Williams has caught a pass in all 35 games he's played in and that active streak was tops in the NCAA coming into the season."

There's a pretty malodorous article about this situation on al.com...Man, this whole thing reeks big time!!! This kid was the most popular player on the team, with the fans, and on the UAB campus...He didn't violate any NCAA rules, break curfew, get in any bar fights, beat up any women, cut/skip class, take money from boosters, sell his autographs, none of that!!!

And he gets kicked off the team because according to the coach, "they're not going in the same direction?" Something smells about that, if this is the prevalent reasoning...I got some serious soul-searching to do now...

You either trust the coach to know what he's doing or you don't.

Not being privy to any gory details (just like everyone else here), I'll give McGee the benefit of the doubt, until I reason to think otherwise.

Either way, we'll need guys to who didn't catch many balls last year to catch a lot this year.

Maybe they can take the LSU approach and leave it to the players to vote...

I know that you are just as big a $hit-stirrer on memphistigers.org as I was. They'll put up with your bullshite because you are the enemy and have always been the enemy. They don't want me posting over there because I know when they are full of $hit and where the all bodies are buried. I lived it.

Wyloats always posts the exact same thing anytime I post. It has become a running joke and he has admitted as much. He doesn't bother me, nor I him.

And I continue to post there where you aren't, because I am generally more respectful as a visitor on the board than you are. I don't take every opportunity to trash the Tigers even when the thread has nothing to do with them. It is the reason. I will still post on this board, long after you are banned here as well.

RE: Uh oh for UAB
Jackie Williams is talented, but UAB is not lacking in skill players on offense. We had one of the most prolific passing offenses in the nation a year ago (about 19th in the nation). Though we lose Williams, we have added several talented WRs in Maudrecus Humphrey (Arkansas transfer), Jamari Staples, and JJ Green among others to go along with a solid returning corps from a year ago.

Add to that having one of the nation's better TEs (Kennard Backman) and one of the best (if not the best) RB in CUSA. We will be fine on offense.

UAB's success or failure this season will be largely determined by whether there is improvement on the defensive side of the ball.

RE: Uh oh for UAB
The real reasons are still not out but things are shaping up to look as though the player was not giving full effort in practices, dogging it, coming in last on sprints and such. The coach decided that a player that felt like he was above working as hard as the guys around him was not being the leader and example you expect from a senior who is one of the best guys on the team. I'm sure that they talked to him about this more than once before pulling the trigger.

That is somewhat speculative, but it fits what we've been hearing.

On the other hand, he was in good standing academically, it wasn't a drug issue, or problems with the law or beating up his girlfriend. I know of SEC schools where failing on all four wouldn't stop a talented player from starting.

If the coach felt that he had to make a harsh example to open the eyes of the rest of the team, I have to trust that he had his reasons.

There must have been words exchanged with UAB's coach and Jackie. No way to you kick off the team your best WR before the senior season. No NCAA rules, good kid, etc...That is odd.

How about setting a bad example at practice with a lack of effort, or bad sportsmanship? He's been suspended for a game before, for violation of team rules.

What is odd is that some think he was kicked off the team for no valid reason. I don't know if he is a good kid or not, but I trust the McGee did what was best for the team and not an individual.
