RE: Josh Pastner Making Memphis Tigers Fans Forget About John Calipari
Josh has energized the program with excitment and there is a serious buzz around it and him natinally now. He is clearly a super elite recruiter already.

For a guy who just completed his his 4th year, the future sure looks bright for both him and us. Heck, the future may be now with this coming season.

Maybe that should have been the tone of the article as opposed to "making them forget Cal."

My thoughts exactly Brother Bluto...the only thing that could make us forget about those periods is a National Championship Banner hanging in the rafters of the Forum. And even then i would still remember.

you are 100% right.

Selective enforcement, end of story. Nobody wins without the best players.

Yep the powers that be got so tired of Cal cheating and winning here so they got Billy Clyde a DUI and got him the UK job so he can cheat in harmony. Hell UCLA has a banner for 1995. Jim Harrick couldn't even blow his nose at Jawja and Rhode Island doe.

When we mowed down Texas, Michigan State and UCLA it was more than the NCAA could take from little old Memphis.

All because Illinois was crying after their home grown boy went to Memphis.

That coach didn't do anything but cry -- that's why he's gone.

The only thing I thought the author got wrong was the "why" most of us aren't forgetting Cal. Has nothing to do with winning zero-to-one tournament game now vs winning zero-to-three tournament games then (the most Cal ever won except for that one year that doesn't count any more.) Has to do with finding out in the last couple of days he was here and after he left what kind of guy he really was.

That's where that idiom that goes "fool me once, shame on thee" etc., comes from. I forgive him, but only naive people forget that kind of stuff. And if they do, shame on them.

I think it's going to end up that not trying to keep Pastner was the best thing Cal ever did for us long term.

It would be a bit like comparing Cal after his 4th season here to Dana Kirk's run.

One turney win compared to 3 Sweet 16's and a final 4.

No contest until you wait and fill in the rest of their careers.

Thanks for making my point. After 4 years, Cal wasn't making us "forget" Kirk.

While Pastner has a better record, he has had easier opponents during his first four years than Cal had during his first four years. (Wow, can't believe I am defending Cal 01-wingedeagle)

That's not really as true as you think it is.

Sure, if you just look at the conf sch, Cal's was tougher. But the overall schedule (including non cof) are much closer.

Our RPI is has actually been much higher and our SOS has been close to the same if not better.

Good call....I didn't realize that. Did the research (used CBS Sports info), and the average RPI rank during Cal's first 4 years is 88.25, and Pastner's is 63.25

I stand corrected. 04-bow04-bow

On a funny note, 2011 Pastner had his best RPI ranking (46), and 2010 was the lowest (85)

RE: Josh Pastner Making Memphis Tigers Fans Forget About John Calipari
Cal came to Memphis with a serious NCAA tournament run and time as a HC in the NBA under his belt. Cal wasn’t a young first time D1 coach like Josh. Cal had plenty of experience + connections.

If I was to make a comparison, head to head for their REAL FIRST 4 years, Josh wins heads down.

Cal had to rebuild the program. Josh just picked up where Cal left off.

I think it's easier to take over and run a company such as GM as opposed to building a company from the ground up such as GM.

unfortunately, thats not even close to what happened.

Pastner took over a team with no recruits, on probation and stuck in CUSA.

Are we talking about the same "Scuz Bucket" that threw the Missouri game so he could ensure getting his new job? I thought so. Still curious how much he made on the side by throwing that game, just the icing on the cake for him.

Pastner has miles and miles to go to make me forget Cal.

How many NCAA wins did Cal have in his first 4 seasons as the Memphis coach?

You almost had me agreeing, except the NCAA cleared Rose to play, then uncleared him retroactively. Not X's fault.

If you had gone with him being a lying scumbag who wrecked our program on the way out I would have agreed.

A well-nuanced set of facts that some folks seems to forget...we were royally screwed by both Cal AND the NCAA.

Bingo! I will never forget that SOB. And I am thrilled we now have Coach Pastner. It's not an either/or.

Cal left at the 11th hour and took the recruits with him on the U of M’s dime.

What he did here was overshadowed by the way he disrespected our program & fans when he left. Screw Cal. I’m glad that no good SOB is where he thought he wanted to be.

We have a very good program going on and it doesn’t involve Cal. It’s Josh’s show now so let’s sit back & watch.
