Will play all 4 games in Lincoln in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.

So the Soldier Field game in 2016 is not going to happen.

Teams Will Play Four Times from 2017-23

DeKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois will play the University of Nebraska at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023, as changes to the Big Ten Conference schedule have forced the universities to make adjustments to the three-game series originally finalized in December 2012.

The series will begin Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 when the Huskies travel to Lincoln for the third time in school history, and the first time since Sept. 8, 1990. The teams will meet again on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 and Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023. All four games will be played at Memorial Stadium.

Originally, the series between NIU and Nebraska consisted of three games, beginning with a Northern Illinois home game with the Cornhuskers at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sept. 24, 2016. NIU was scheduled to play at Nebraska on Sept. 2, 2017 while the date of the 2019 contest remains unchanged.

The Huskies are looking into other options for future Soldier Field games, said Deputy Athletic Director Christian Spears, who worked with Nebraska officials to adjust and extend the series.

“The Big Ten schedule necessitated these changes, and we are happy that the Cornhuskers will remain on the Huskie football schedule going forward with the addition of the 2021 and 2023 games to the 2017 and 2019 contests,” Spears said. “We have reached out and are actively working on returning to Soldier Field against a quality opponent in the future.”

Well we have the road game thing down. Nebraska is one of the few schools we haven't played at SF that would bring a big crowd there, I think.

Not sure why we needed to play them 4x... but they're never coming to Huskie stadium anyways.

So even a $1.5 million payday couldn't disuade Neb from a home date. So tell me again how NIU is supposed to get a Bowl subdivision team to come to Huskie stadium for a mere $300K. The numbers don't make sense for a big program.

The SF game should have been moved to their next OOC away opening (2027 as far as I can tell) then add the 4th game in Lincoln the next year.

What the heck? Although they play @Nebraska first, so the 2nd game might get bought out. Anyway it's 12 years from now. Still, they get a 1-1?

They would get paid more than 300K.

When was our 2 other Iowa games rumored for? 2018 and 2020?

Yeah so we have a 4 for 0 and Cincy got a 1 for 1. Brilliant.

This is so small time. It makes me sick. We had a contract that should be enforced. If Nebraska wanted out of the SF game, buy us out and we will move on. To commit to a 4-0 is just a stupid thing to do. I really hope the new AD had no role what so ever in this mess.
