Just like all of the other conference titles won in FBS by the Triple Option...all 4 of them.

You mean Ga Tech making it to the ACC title game 40% of the time since Johnson's been there?

The only reason we are even going to settle for being mere Sun Belt Conference Champs is because of the bowl ban in '14. I would guarantee nothing less than the crystal football if it weren't for that dang rule... Bama dodged a bullet with our ban... Saban doesn't know how lucky he is.

You better have a plan "B". The triple option isn't going to fly on this level.
That remains to be seen, better defenses have not stopped it...

Kind of like the NFL, QB running around the ends option. It doesn't work that well because of the speed of NFL players. It's the easiest most boring offense in college football. If it worked don't you think you would see it on this level? ULM did some really creative things at the start of the season on offense. It served them well but by the end of the season everyone had figured out how to defend it. It should fail miserably. How many points did you average per game? You are going to have to score a lot to beat ULM, UL or ASU.

For the first year or two, defenses are going to hate preparing for the triple option. It will be especially difficult preparing for the option one week, and then the spread the next week. I expect eventually a few will figure out how to handle it better, but not immediately.

The biggest fallacy to ever hit the internet. Speed has nothing to do with stopping the option. Zero. RG3 dominated the NFL running a bunch of triple option as a rookie. The only thing that stops the option is dominant defensive tackles.

Look dude. Run your triple or quadruple option. Every coach that plays you this year will be ready for it. I trust that coach Hud and the Cajuns will shut that down real quick.

Georgia State is a research-level institute located in the middle of Atlanta somewhere between the Georgia Tech and Abdullah's House of Ribs and Chinese Food. They started their football program a few years ago to disasterous results. Thier makeup of student body is mostly minorities and professional degree students. So far the best two replies have come from Appalachian State partisans LOL !

I don't like these hypotheticals on defending the triple option, it all comes down to scheme, man on man match ups and speed of execution. In case you guys haven't noticed there are often three foot splits in the line, and on top of that lately Georgia Southern has gravitated to an unbalanced line that includes a tight end, something CPJ doesn't use. Additionally Georgia Southern has adapted it to different formations to disguise whats happening, this worked to great effect against Bama in 2011,

Defensively, we have done better at stopping the run, though occasionally give up a big play, and the pass is on again off again. My biggest concern is on our defending the pass, just looking at the Appalachian State game last year, though I can't say our sometimes weakness hasn't cost us the game, in all the big games of 2012 it was a combination of pass D, hideous kicking, and costly penalties. The same can be said of the FCS semi-final vs NDSU
Of course I discount the Georgia game, but the Dawgs were but yards away from an FBS BCS NC appearance before coming up short.

But we did prevail over ODU's #1FCS passing attack last year, though it was largely due to their inability to stop our offense, it's a good case study.

Now I know the naysayers will say, well this is FBS ! True, and upon our transition FBS we will be too, and recruiting in Georgia & North Florida won't be a problem !

I'd like to make a two points if I may ! Here is an example of what is an obvious difference between Georgia Southern & Georgia State.
First, a Georgia Southern partisan and a Louisiana partisan bickering over the merits of the triple option at the FBS level with respect to hypotheticals.
Football teams rosters turn over every year, we lost three defensive players to the pros, but our offense is largely intact for next season, but we won't compete in the Sun Belt until the following year when we lose our world class running threat at QB. So with roster turnovers, the only continuity often is coaching staffs, and there is turnover there too inevitably.
And Secondly, A Georgia Southern partisan and a Louisiana partisan bickering over the merits of the triple option at the FBS level,
Huh ? That's ditto ! Not really, the silence of Georgia State's on the field performance is deafening ! But they've got tall buildings LOL 02-13-banana05-stirthepot

The University of Louisiana at Monroe says ULM is fine with them and they are going for it as their brand. The University of Louisiana is not fine officially with ULL. Heck the school website is http://www.louisiana.edu. I'm not one to really push the issue. You can't control what others call you but if you really want to tick a Cajun fan off then call us ULaLa. Read the link about the name battle. I would actually like use to go back to USL but for it to stand for the University of South Louisiana. ULM could go for the University of North Louisiana. I may give ULM a hard time sometimes but it's more like brotherly ribbing. I don't hate ULM and wish them to drop down. I would like to be in a different conference. I think that would be best for both schools.

I've never really understood the STRONG objection that Cajun fans have to ULL since it does seem to be an accurate (even if not technically endorsed) acronym. Thanks for providing the link. That frames the issue a bit, and I guess I can see the reason for the passion. Basically, the way I read it, you guys were basically screwed by your local politics (courts and legislature) and I can see that driving the passion. I have never meant anything derogatory by using "ULL" but I'll try to do better ("UL" or "Louisiana").

While we're talking about branding, Appalachian State University athletics is officially branded as "Appalachian" or "App State" or "App" but NOT "Appy". We have used "ASU" in the past also, but just prior to our joining the Sun Belt, the official announcement was made that we were moving AWAY from "ASU" for athletic purposes and to "App State". For me, this was one of the first concrete indications that an announcement was imminent since the Sun Belt already had an "ASU". I'm amazed that I haven't seen reactions to the use of "Appy" on the this board, but it will happen as our official affiliation gets closer and more fans move over here. GaSo and other rivals use "Appy" intentionally to get under our skin, but the diminutive version is generally considered to be derogatory (like "ULaLa"). Of course App fans have nicknames for Georgia Southern as well, so it's all about the rivalry.

Sorry for the long post, but in summary....I'll make more effort to avoid the ULL.

I trust that coach Hud and the Cajuns will shut that down real quick.

that's right...you're going to shut us down. we'll probably have negative rushing yards against your world class defense. how can i forget the Cajuns are the cream of the crop in FBS. we don't stand a chance against the likes of that!

Hi, I am a GSU Panther partisan and I hope you keep the TO in FBS. 04-cheers
