Fast food strike in Seattle
How much do you pay a person with no marketable skills? If these are the only jobs these people qualify for then they should be glad they have them. And this will absolutely piss off the stoners.

Quote:Seattle fast food worker strike shuts down restaurants

Fast food workers at dozens of Seattle restaurants, who are demanding better pay, went on strike Thursday. It’s already causing some of those restaurants to shut down due to lack of staffing.

The minimum wage in Washington state is $9.19 per hour. The organization “Good Jobs Seattle” says the strike is part of a nationwide effort to raise the pay for fast food workers to $15 per hour and to give them the right to organize without retaliation.

The strike is targeting Taco Bell, McDonald’s Burger King, Subway and other national chains. Good Jobs Seattle said, as of 10:30 a.m., that six stores had to close due to understaffing.

Thursday's strike is expected to culminate in a 4:30 p.m. rally at Denny Park in Seattle followed by a march to nearby fast food restaurants.

By comparison to the national chains, locally-based Dick's Drive-In says on its website that its starting wage is $10 per hour and can go up to $10.50 within three months, with shift managers and store managers earning even more. Dick's says it also offers health and dental insurance, educational scholarships and childcare assistance.

Great, a strike that hits poor people. Way to get out in front of single mom Britney with her two kids, two jobs and a need for a Cool Ranch Taco for dinner.

Shutting down Taco Bell doesn't really impact those of us with disposable income. Dopes.

Like the fat food industry is not dying to have drive troughs and order taking done via electronic kiosk. This will just mean fewer fast food jobs.

Hey, geniuses - why not make it $20/hr? Or $25?

So much for the value menu, which seems to be keeping some of these outfits afloat. Organize burger flippers? 03-lmfao Yeah, put them in the SEIU or UFCW and their dues would take 1/4 of their monthly income. BFOA (Burger flippers of America) is gonna have quite some clout.

I'd say only in a lefty paradise like Oregon would this pop up, but sadly economic illiteracy and a poor education breed deep thinkers like this almost everywhere now.

Fast food joint jobs aren't meant to be careers, able to support a family. I guess this is the new normal. Welcome to Obama's America.

Many of these folks that will ultimately be subserviant to the government machine. THese jobs are for teens and elderly wanting golf / LifeALert bracelet money. If you are middle-aged with responsibilities and you have no skills that can be marketable outside of running the french fry machine at Wendy's, then shame on you. However, as someone who is working, I hold you in esteem much higher than the parasite class, and would concede that your standard of living should be superior to those that solely suck of the government teat. And the answer is not raising wages, it is lowering benefits for the parasitic class.

So they make about $20K per year for asking if want you fries with that burger? And they get medical & dental benefits? And they probably have a 401K?

They should bow down in the direction of Hamburger University and thank God (or Allah) that someone would employ them.

Funny thing is there's a liberal radio station in East St. Louis that was saying all this "fast food strikes" were a good thing when they occurred here in St. Louis. The girl (she's a horrible talk show DJ, and I only flip there during commercials on the other station on my drive home in the morning), kept asking for callers on this, but they wouldn't take anyone...

Either they couldn't get anyone to listen, or they couldn't get anyone to agree with her. It was embarrassing all the reasons she was trying to promote this strike routine as good... (funny thing is , not one store closed during the "strike".... It was basically some Mickey D's and Jimmy John stores.)

They're minimum wage jobs because they're low skill jobs, Robs.

It's nothing personal. There is a reason they make what they make, and anesthesiologists and plumbers make what THEY make.

Subway?!? The profit margins at subway are not nearly as big as the National Burger Chains. $15/hr = $6 Big Macs. These idiots don't get it.

These folks are really going to be pissed when they "strike" themselves right out of a job. That $9/hour is going to look really good to them them.

If these non-skilled kids want to make $15/hr they should apply to the Seattle Police department and keep making fools of themselves.

Why bother going to college when they can make big bucks at the drive through window.

Because they are ENTITLED to a good paying job. It's the new American way of thinking.

It is called a "negotiation". You start high and come down and meet near the middle.

Btw, can you prove that it would raise the prices to $6? I didn't think so.
