Big 12/ACC scheduling alliance & Big 12/PAC 12 BBW Bowl possible partnership
Looks Like Big 12 commish is still trying to schedule a Big 12/ACC scheduling alliance as well as lock up the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl with the Big 12 & PAC 12.

http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college...aurels.ece

Quote:For the moment, Bowlsby’s priorities involve partnerships:

The Big 12 is continuing talks with the Atlantic Coast Conference about a likely football scheduling alliance, including neutral-site games.

“I think there’s a reasonably good chance we will,” Bowlsby said. “I’d like to do it as soon as we can possibly can. Within two or three years, we can have some format of games between the two leagues.”

Quote:Bowlsby said the Big 12 and the Pac-12 are talking about a partnership in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl much like the Champions Bowl concept with the SEC that became the Sugar Bowl.

“We’re looking at a modified Sugar Bowl model where we will be part of the operation of the bowl, instead of an invited guest,” Bowlsby said.

Buffalo Wing Wings Bowl spokesman Andrew Bagnato confirmed ongoing discussions.

“Given the financial realities, this could be a very advantageous partnership for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl,” he said.

Of course the following is commish speak but it doesn't look like the Big 12 has any plans to expand in the future. I think he realizes what most fans realize, there simply isn't anyone out there that will increase our TV contract.

Quote:If there is any doubt left, Bowlsby doesn’t see the Big 12 moving beyond 10 teams.

“I don’t see anything on the horizon that can change it right now,” Bowlsby said. “That doesn’t mean there isn’t something on the horizon at some point.”

Truth be told, Bowlsby has always felt more comfortable working with conferences, not staging raids. In the conference realignment scenarios discussed, it was hard to see the Big 12 as an aggressor, he said.

When many fans thought the conference should be targeting schools such as Florida State earlier this year, Bowlsby and the Big 12 legal team gave guidance to the ACC in crafting a granting of rights that stabilized that league.

“I was conflicted. I continue to be conflicted,” Bowlsby said. “I think a lot of what has happened for the last three or four years has not reflected well on the integrity overall of higher education and intercollegiate athletics. I’ll do everything I can to not be a part of that.

One game that needs to happen with a Big XII/ACC is Pitt-WVU. The ACC wants to do a Rivalry Week...nothing better then the Backyard Brawl...as for the Bowls it makes sense for the Big XII/Pac-12 to talk...it appears the SEC/B1G/ACC have most of their Bowl lineups set against each other.

Sounds like Bowlsby has an ulterior motive in mind. I wonder what his rush is. Each of the schools in the Big 12 can schedule an ACC team whenever they want. Personally, I believe WV needs this the most, and the Big 12 is trying to tap into the ACC's markets.

I don't think the ACC is going to be in a rush...outside of Pitt-WVU and Texas/Oklahoma what are the attractive match ups.

The ACC already plays an 8 game schedule with ND commented to playing 5 ACC schools....not to mention the current in-state ACC/SEC Matchups with Clemson-South Carolina, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Vandy-Wake Forest, Florida-Florida State & Louisville-Kentucky.

For many like Louisville in 2014 OOC we already have ND & a SEC OOC game, the same with Florida State with the ND/SEC OOC Game.

I don't really see how the ACC can do it. They already have an alliance with ND and over 1/3 of the teams are playing the SEC on a yearly basis. Pitt just got Penn St back on the schedule. I just don't see enough support from the rest of the teams.

Outside of Pitt-WVU, I'm not a fan of this proposed alliance either. I think most Big 12 fans would rather play bigger schools. Texas-Florida St, Oklahoma-Clemson, Texas Tech-Va. Tech,Oklahoma St-Georgia Tech and K-State-Louisville are about the only marquee games that could be scheduled.

I would like to see that series again...both games between 2005-2006 were very entertaining. But overall I agree with you...not so much an alliance but something that individual schools can come up with...plus the Big XII has it own 9 game schedule and I think some games with ND coming up as well as some with the SEC.

I doubt an alliance would mean all 10 Big 12 teams playing 10 ACC teams every year. Since the Big 12 has 9 conference games, that would take up the only open spot they have (assuming 7 home games being necessary). For football I could see 5 games (or maybe 7) one weekend. It would be enough to call it a challenge and you'd always make sure one of Texas/Oklahoma was involved. The ACC teams would be arranged for years they weren't playing Notre Dame.

If its part of a rivalry week ~ last week ACC regular season, second to last week of Big12 regular season ~ which is the second Big12 pairing to even out the Big12 scheduling?

Though it could be done along the lines that ohio1317 suggests, four Big12 schools in the partnership every year, 3 schools in rotation plus WV playing Pitt.

Too many bowl tie-ins.... and sometimes they make for awful games. JMHO.

When you let 7-5 and 6-6 teams go to a bowl, you are going to have some awful games.

If people stopped watching them on TV, ESPN would stop funding so many, and the requirement to make a bowl would get pushed up.

I bet it's something like all the teams that don't play ND in a given year will play a Big 12 team. So 5 ND games and 9 Big 12 games that adjust with the ND schedule.

That would be interesting...in Louisville case...ND/Kentucky in 2014...2015/2016 K-State/Kentucky...a couple of home pay games against the SunBelt & C-USA/MAC to go with the 8 ACC Games.

And if you get ND every 3 years that'd give you time for a home/away. 2014 @ND, 2015 vsKSU, 2016 @KSU, 2017 vsND

I may be in the minority, but I would prefer to see WVU play Va. Tech. That was a very important game to people in the southern part of WV.
It's not that I wouldn't mind playing Pitt. I just know how fired up I used to get when the Tech game came around.
I assume Frank Beamer would have to retire before there is a chance of it happening.

That's way too much. I can't imagine schools like GT, FSU, and Clemson going for this. They already play a big time SEC opponent and every 4 years they get ND, and you have to assume the conference slate gets tougher with Louisville replacing Maryland.
I'd rather play the SEC or even the BIG over the Big 12.

The Backyard Brawl isn't the only matchup involving WVU they could setup. WVU also has plenty of history with BC, Syracuse (Schwartzwalder Trophy), VT (Black Diamond Trophy), and Miami. And some of the best games of The BEast after the first ACC raid involved WVU and Louisville...
