It's just my opinion.
Instead of trying to bash, just state your opinion.

Anyways, I was not putting down GaSouthern. I was just ranking them by importance to Sunbelt.

When a conference is trying to survive and needs established fbs schools, fbs schools whoever they be, are of more importance to Sunbelt than fcs move ups.
And since I put App. St. #1, it really tells how much I feel about a great add they were for Sunbelt.

Ranking Southern 5th on that list was just crazy. Not trying to bash your opinion, but my opinion is that it was crazy.

The Vandels will get smashed by the Eagles. I know it, you know it and everybody in Idaho knows it.

As far as importance to the conference, well they were so important that they were only invited for Football, which I admit is all I really care about anyway. But on that sport, they are coming in on the same time line as any FCS move up so they are of no more value to the conference than GaSouthern. Infact, given the travel burdens, they are a much less wanted program by almost every other football member of the Sun Belt. And they are on of the biggest issues that even teams considering an East invite are looking at. They were neccessary to get to 12 fast and get that game and I agree with the invite although I hope it is a temp fix and wish them luck in finding a closer conf. in the future. Also - with the new $ coming for competitivness and rankings, I can say that Georgia Southern is of much higer value and importance to the Sun Belt than Idaho. This and location (footprint) and recruiting power/TV ratings is why I say that ranking you gave the Eagles was LOCO! Plus, how can you have App at # 1 and such a gap between two teams from the Same FCS conference with great history, but GSU having the more storied and powerfull of those two? Stadium size? Which is about to be equal. Attendance? Most likely will level between these two within 3 years, especially if GSU wins a lot go games and gets some big win over a mid-major or BCS team.

I think you guys got a steal in Appalachian St.

Here's how I rank your adds.

#1 App. St. - CUSA should have invited them in. But instead, they are Sunbelt bound.
I really feel they will come in similar to how Marshall came in to the MAC. This is a strong football program that will compete for conference championships immediately. Their Olympic sports will get better in the Sunbelt.

#2 New Mexico St. - yes, their football is down now, but they are a legit fbs program and will be competitive in the new Sunbelt. Throw them in for all sports, which I think is gonna happen, and their basketball program will be at the top of the Sunbelt.

#3 Texas St. - good program, great market. Great investment for the future of Sunbelt.

#4 Idaho - again, another established fbs program that needs a conference like Sunbelt to get back on track. Alot better program then what people on here give them credit for.

#5 Georgia Southern - another good solid fcs program ready to compete in Sunbelt.

#6 UTA- good strong Olympic programs. Nice potential market pull.

#7 Georgia St- head scratcher. Similar to CUSA/Charlotte but Atleast Charlotte has solid basketball.
Great market but can they deliver market? Will they become a competitive program in Sunbelt?

Sunbelt potentials rankings......

#1 Missouri St. - solid program making all the right moves to make the move up to fbs. If they want in now, take them. If they need a year because of more planning, wait on them.
This possible addition would be similar to the Texas St addition. JMO

#2 whoever really wants in the Sunbelt the most and shows and means it.
Quit fu<king around with schools who are wishy washy. Go with schools who are showing the money and ready to be loyal to the Sunbelt.

ANY person who ranks Idaho over Georgia Southern in ANYTHING other than potato making has lost their ever loving mind!

I get that App brought in another state and that gives them one up on the Eagles. Their attendance is currenly a little higher than Georgia Southern, something that was launched be their win over Michigan. But guys, Ga.Southern is a sleeping giant in terms of growing fan support. The state of NC is just about tapped out on much more growth in that area, plus Boone is harder to get to. GA is booming! And doing so close to Statesboro. Georgia Southern is only competing with 3 other in state FBS programs (App state is going to be competing against 6 others!). One of the three GA programs is GAST, obviously. Given that ALL 3 of the other in state FBS programs are very close together (Atl), the location (closer to FLA) of Georgia Southern and playing FBS programs is going to open up a lot of interest for people who want to watch foorball at that level in the rest of the State. Also, consider the recruiting advantages of Southern by location comparred to App State. I think that puts Georgia Southern at the TOP of your addition list with App being Second. The rivalry between the two helps put them both at the top of your list. Overall, I couldnt tell you much about that sport with the big orange ball, but we are GOOD in Baseball and GREAT in Football.
We will see how this plays out, but dont be shocked if everyone is agreeing with this comment within our first 5 seasons.

Not trying to be a dick here, but Appalachian is already known about around the nation. Georgia Southern is not. The SBC needed teams with a good reputation and good PR, and App brings that. I'm not saying that GSU doesn't, but App just tops Southern in that field.

Well, next time we go for an FCS program, just ask. I know about most all of the FCS teams. App and GaSouth can chime in now, too.

RE: Listing Order of the new addition
The Sun Belt needs to add as many fb schools as it can…. Greed has destroyed the former Big East now known as the AAC. The ACC will take schools from the AAC again if it gets raided by the B1G, SEC, and BIG XII. The AAC will take schools from C-USA again. Likewise, C-USA will take schools from the Sun Belt again to survive. Conference cannibalism is an unfortunate reality in today's college sports world; look at what happened to the WAC.... Further greed may cause this conference’s football program to suffer the same fate. Stocking up on fb schools is the only way to ensure this conference survives the following ACC pick-a-part scenario:

"Florida State would be the next best possible addition to the Big 12, right? Even your grandmother could see this. Only how could ESPN fairly advise the Big 12 on the value of the addition of Florida State, Clemson, or Miami"....

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...-expansion

"The Big 12 pointed out in its closed-door, four-hour meeting at the Four Seasons Las Colinas that the Big Ten, should it expand, would likely push for schools already included in the Association of American Universities – in the ACC, that list includes Virginia, UNC, Pitt, Georgia Tech and Duke.

The conference also explained the SEC, should it expand, would likely gravitate toward schools from states where it doesn't have a presence – in the ACC, that includes schools in Virginia (UVA, Virginia Tech) or North Carolina (UNC, Duke, N.C. State, Wake Forest).

Based on that information, the [Big 12] conference identified teams that would be left, including reputable football schools Florida State, Clemson and Louisville."

http://outkickthecoverage.com/espn-fox-a...e-dame.php

"There is additional movement to come in conference realignment. We can't allow what happened to the Big East happen to the Big 12 as far as only having 10 teams. We're happy where we are right now but nobody believes conference realignment is over. But, it is important for us to have eastern partners in the conference.

Those are the WVU athletic director's words, not mine. In his own words, he acknowledges that expansion is coming. I think most of us assumed that much."

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/15222...ion-coming

"The Big 12 has left the door open to expansion. The conference has identified several potential future candidates for new teams, according to Jeremy Fowler, including the Florida St. Seminoles, Clemson Tigers and Louisville Cardinals."

Some what agree, the SB could take their PR hit all at one time. After the next round you would look stable and gain sentiment from traditionalist.

The existing schools could go ahead and choose the competition for the next expansion. I believe this has already been a criteria in the last invitees. Of recent move ups GSU has the best chance to advance.

This is the crux of the argument for moving to FBS for GS. All the success in I-AA and no one (outside our region) knows or cares. App upset Michigan and gained national recognition and their alumni came out of the woodwork to support the program with money and attendance.

I would rate App above GS as well

RE: Listing Order of the new addition
Expansion is not just about the best schools in sports to add, it's also about market size and which new markets a conference wants. Therefore, conference expansion involves a combination of the best sports programs and market needs of a conference. For some conferences, expansion is also about survival. Consequently, C-USA is considering expanding to 16 teams. And guess where its next team is coming from, probably the Sun Belt again:

"Arkansas State or Louisiana-Lafayette from the Sun Belt, which has lost several teams to C-USA, could be attractive options."

"Adding two more teams could be preventative in a way -- if the Big Ten raids again, then the ACC takes from the AAC, the AAC takes from C-USA. Going to 16 now could cut out the middleman."

Conversely, I had never heard of many of the lower tier conference schools until mine started shopping around for membership. If we're honest with ourselves, we recognize that the BCS programs eat almost all of the public attention. If you aren't in the big namr conferences, most people don't pay any attention to you.

RE: Listing Order of the new addition
Those big markets aren't going to mean a lot when they consistently get their butts whipped by small markets. If market is so important, Ga State should be CUSA's next choice. stAte has a fine program, but their market and budget are among the smallest in FBS. Lafayette has had two winning seasons in a row so that obviously means they're awesome and too good for the SBC so maybe they'll get their wish and rejoin FAU, FIU, NT, MTSU, and WKU.

In any case, the challenge of playing better competition every week has me more excited about football than I've been in a while.

I'll grant you that the Win over Michigan got your name out there and did a lot to get you guys known. (Dont forget that Southern beat you that year!) - And yea, more people have heard of you because of that. However, to say that Georgia Southern is not know around the Nation is spreading it just a little thin. I'm not saying the main line, young fans - but our name has been out there for decades and With as many National Champioships as we have played in - people from Coast to Coast know us. If you think your 3 have brought you more attention than our SIX - you are wrong. BUT - The UM thing gives your the advantage here is being known. BUT - your REP and PR is no better than GSU's.

Idaho's Rep is certainly not even close. And what do they average in Attendance?

I can make my points as to why I think Southern could be a bigger asset to the Conference after a few short years of success, and you don't have to agree with that (I expect nothing less!) - but my primary point is that even If App State ranks #1, GaSou. Should have been at least right behind them for all the same reasons that made you top the list.

Im going to put that into my saving and come 2014 bring it back out for ya....05-stirthepot

Remind me how many FBS wins GSU has again?

Remind me, who won the game the last time you guys came to Statesboro? 04-chairshot

And to answer your question: 1-0 (FIU)
Assuming you dont want to count our wins over current FBS teams, cause that number goes WAY up then.

And oh yea, When is the last time we played an FBS team outside of a BCS Conference? How does your record look against:

UGA
UF
Auburn
Alabama
North Carolina
Oregon State
Miami
Florida State

I'd never heard of Georgia Southern until Sun Belt realignment....

I'm not surprised, mostly because I had never heard of North Texas until I saw them on a Play Station game. Southern wasnt on there that year, and I was trying to find a team with an Eagle. I think I remember adjusting the color levels on my t.v. to make that green look blue. Anyway I soon gave up on that because the North Texas team was so bad and the players were so slow that I couldnt do much with it. I know that is just a game, and probably not a fair view of your team - but that is ALL I know about Texas State. Except when they went to C-USA. I had no idea they were even in the Sun Belt.
We all have a lot to learn about each other I guess.

You mean North Texas. And you probably weren't on the game because they quit putting FCS teams on there many years ago. But don't worry, I wouldn't expect you to know anything about real Divison 1 football. You'll learn, but it will be painful.

Well, at least you admit it. They will be a force to be reckoned with in the Sun Belt. Too bad it's taking a move up before some folks hear of them. I almost went to UNT, btw... Great place.

I disagree. The Michigan win and playoff/title runs during the same period gave them more rep and pr then GSU had/has. When I heard about the UM win, I soon also found out about their NCs. I hadn't heard about Georgia Southern at the time until I saw them play Georgia on TV in 2008 (or recapped somewhere, I don't remember). Long story short, they didn't win, but I was impressed they put up 21. It was more or less an after though after that. Just another 1-AA team that put up a few points on an unprepared BCS teams. But, Appalachian State, I've been waiting to have them since they beat UM.

While GSU's 6 NCs might be more impressive than ASU's 3 (right?), the world doesn't see it that way. The world is enchanted by what ASU did in Michigan and largely doesn't care about their NCs, and they certainly don't know much about Georgia Southern, unfortunately because you guys have a chance to be great.
