Nobody hates Western Carolina...they're the lovable losers...Furman's the source of most of their hate...we're better than them too.

Or perhaps they hate those purple pirates of the raided party that was once referred to as the big east?
Geez, you all have at least 3 hated purple teams. We'll make sure you love purple and gold when we're finished beating you.
Just be careful about leading by 21 at the half and we'll make sure to not fumble the ball when we should've kicked a field goal.

yeah... that's what we all thought. "The writing's on the wall".

It's 5 years later...

Well, one of you will be SBC in a couple weeks. I still think its JMU, they will get the first invite, and it would be downright stupid to turn down an FBS invite in the current climate. Its possible ODU may try and get CUSA to pick them up, but that is yet another East school in a league that is becoming heavy east.

If it is JMU replacing WKU, I wouldn't exect an announcement until the CAA's spring sports are done. From what I've heard they will become immediately inelgible for all CAA championships (including the currently in-season Spring sports). So they may wish to delay long enough to complete this years athletic calendar.

Must be a CAA rule. Would hope they would accept the future offer right away and then could wait until end of May to file paperwork with the NCAA. Are App State and GaSo spring current in-season Spring sports now ineligible for SoCon Championships?
App and GaSo are eligible for SoCon Championships this spring and next year, with the exception of football.

JMU would be nuts to pass up the Sun Belt offer, especially if there was any chance of Liberty getting that offer. Then Liberty becomes the more powerful football school right in JMU's back yard. Wow. JMU fans must lose a lot of sleep right now.

Agree, I would be very upset if we passed this offer up, especially if there were no other conference's are knocking, which I seriously doubt.

I'd actually be surprised if we accepted. Could it happen? Of course, but I don't see it playing out that way. I think you guys get stuck with Liberty.

If for no other reason, I want to join the Sun Belt so I finally have an excuse to visit a bunch of states I never thought I'd see. I want to steal a can of tuna fish at a convenience store while passing through Alabama with my NY tags and see if I get arrested and tried for murder.

Its why LU is getting used by the SBC to pressure JMU to commit. JMU has the athletic pedigree to become competitive in the SBC, outside of Olympic sports LU brings no athletic accomplishments to the table. But if JMU passes, SBC is now stuck in a position they have to offer LU. Which means unless they have another offer that giant sucking sound you hear is all the attention leaving Harrisonburg and heading to Lynchburg. I don't think JMU' alum would appreciate being upstaged by the folks at LU.

I like Liberty, but JMU Alum will not appreciate it, unless you are CAA and FCS for life.

Does it make a lot of sense for the MAC for the MAC to slide in an offer JMU and all sport membership?

JMU has a budget over 30 million which is almost double the budget of the SBC. MAC budgets average around 25 million. I can see where the MAC would be interested.

Then with JMU down the road the MAC could target Appalachian State, Marshall or even ODU if CUSA falls apart. The MAC as you know is not going to fall apart.

I think JMU would love this. But the MAC has been so quiet....usually, SOMETHING leaks.

Given recent comments floating around that the MAC has given or is about to give UMass an ultimatum the league could be playing that card now in order to pair JMU as a possible #14 if UMass commits. All speculation but another very possible scenario.

Plausible. If this were the case, then the MAC presidents have already voted on JMU.

The MAC was tight lipped about UMass though so I'm not sure if that is saying much.

It appears after the news from ESPN this morning that JMU is not ready to move on the Sun Belt offer. That tells me the MAC is their ideal landing ground and that they'll wait for it.

If I am a JMU fan....

MAC > Sun Belt, and I would be willing to wait 1-2 years to do it.
