Here is my question, if CUSA is adding all of these schools does it mean the conference's tv deal payout will increase just a little more per team?

SBC losing more than just WKU so they're needed for SBC to maintain FBS status?

I dropped you guys a hint the other day in another post that there was some unexpected new coming.......sit back and enjoy the ride.....

So basically you are saying that you know something the rest of us do not. And instead of saying it, you will just tell us that you know it and tell us that was what you were talking about after the fact?

What is the point of not saying what you hear? It's not like NMSU & Idaho is a matter of national security. You gonna get a Idaho Potato Gun pointed at you? I personally will post anything I hear that I think others will find interesting.

the point is he can act like he has inside connections and knows more than anyone else no matter what happens. we all know more change is coming.

The more teams should mean less money per team.

Probably. Its possible that more inventory for Fox's 2 new sports channels would be worth enough boost in overall money that the per school payout would remain at about $1 million each. If it goes down a bit then the presidents must think its basically an investment in conference security. 16 members means that even if 4 get poached over time, you still have the magic number of 12. Time will tell.

CUSA gets around 15 mil a year today between Fox & CBS. 15/12 = 1.25mil 15/14 = 1.07 mil a year.

The TV contract isn't up for renewal until 2016 and the amount doesn't change because you add two more.

Considering that the Sunbelt received NOTHING from ESPN for its TV contract and that now half the conference is SunBelt schools I would say this is not a good mix for the next time negotiations come around.

I think it'll stay about the same...those channels need inventory and the SBC is still lower on the pecking order.

Staying the same 4 years from now is going backwards though. Things aren't getting cheaper.

This all depends... It's not likely, but networks can renegotiate mid-contract, if a conference can prove their value has gone up (whether it's due to numbers or markets, or whatever).

Hope springs eternal. Doubt ESPN stops and says 'wow they played well this year, 1 million more dollars for you Glen Coco. You go Glen Coco.'

You state with certainty what will happen but the truth is you just don't know. For example, if CUSA is talking with its media partners, and what conference doesn't do that when its time to bring in schools, they might be told that if CUSA would go to 16 for more inventory we will make it worth your while and keep the per school payout the same. I don't know if it will work out that way or not but there will have to be a good reason for the conference to expand past 14. And there had to be a good reason for the conference to go past 12.

Which leads to the point of wondering why anyone would give credence to the thoughts of a bunch of schools who thought ownership of 1/10 of 1% of a large market would translate into mega bucks? They thought when espn said "$20 million per" they were talking per school and not per decade.

I doubt C-USA jumps to 16 unless there is good reason to do so. Staying at 14 is much more preferable unless and until the television money per school stays constant....and with the new network coming on board looking for inventory it very well might be in the works.

What I'd be more concerned with if I were an ecu fan is my vulnerability at being a football only invite when it's been quite some time since it became "obvious" a full invite was coming........invite Tulsa for full and you've got a 12/10 league - optimum number in both regards. Man, that would suck -- two conferences, probably not getting any more actual cash with a football only payout from the "big money" conference and a crappy olympic conference.

Considering that the Sunbelt received NOTHING from ESPN for its TV contract and that now half the conference is SunBelt schools I would say this is not a good mix for the next time negotiations come around.

Essentially what you are saying is:

1. That within the next four years the demand for inventory from television and other media will reverse its growth trend of the last several years and actually begin to shrink. I have been unable to find any information that suggests this. If you would please be so kind as to provide a link for us?

2. That in the next four years the value of the conference's on the field performance will deteriorate to such a point where it will no longer have substantial monetary value as it relates to other conferences who might be available to replace our media position with their own. In other words, since all conferences finish .500 when playing among themselves, you are projecting that our performance against the MAC and Sun Belt will be so poor as to convince our media partners to air their games instead of ours. I have been unable to find any information that suggests this. If you would please be so kind as to provide a link for us?

3. That in the next four years, our name recognition will have diminished to the point where we will have little monetary value as a brand. Insomuch as we will have four years of television, radio, visual, and internet exposure to work with, this suggests a simultaneous and near-total meltdown of the marketing departments of fourteen institutions of higher learning. I have been unable to find any information that suggests this. If you would please be so kind as to provide a link for us?

Seriously though I don't get the NMSU for football only. It seems you'd want their basketball program if anything.

Idaho should move back to fb subdivsion formerly known as 1aa. They ate now what la tech was to the wac - a far flung team with no rivals.

The WAC may have told NMSU that their basketball team wouldn't be allowed to leave whatsoever?

I'm glad NMSU and Idaho found a new home for their football programs. If I'm not mistaken Idaho basketball/Oly sports will go to the Big Sky while NMSU will stay in the WAC.
