I think he had the ball and he did what hoops players do he shot and scored. I've seen MANY a player that open dunk like MJ or Dominique. The issue is the great rivalry between Memphis & USM and the exciting game and subsequent collapse of USM in the 2nd OT. That's what the real issue is. It's not like he flipped off the crowd or did something dirty.

This kind of reminds me of people whining about "running up the score" in a football game. USM has every right to be annoyed and Memphis has every right to really not think its an issue. It's good sports.

Hope you both do well in the NCAAs

It's a shame that after 49 minutes and 50 seconds of a hard fought defensive gem of a game, one goofy act gets all the attention from a lot of folks on both sides.

You can see the clock either through the backboard or right next to it. He had to know there was time left. Either way, basketball players shoot the ball. It is as natural to them as holding a steering wheel is in NASCAR. They shoot all the time after play stops on a foul call, for example. It was a classless thing to do, but there was no harm at all in it beyond looking like a total ass in front of millions.

I'm not sure where I stand on "classless" in this. It looked like to me they took the clock down pretty far and he kind of shot it to shoot it and it went in. Granted with the lead at the point it was at that time they could have just ran out the clock.

The act of shooting at that point lacked sportsmanship. I don't know about you, but I'd hate to be judged on solely one thing in my life...not saying the player is classless.

What is telling on our society today is that some on here think that the act of unsportsmanship is OK. The player will have to live with that brand the rest of his life. It didn't take away from the fact that it was probably the best game ever in C-USA of any kind, and it is a shame that the asterisk that will be attached at the end of the game will be remembered more than the game itself. I guess the selfishness that has taken over college sports rears its ugly head again. Great game Memphis, and I won't let comments from some of your "fans" get in the way of it.

An asterisk beside the game because a player made a shot at the end? You have got to be kidding. Antonio Barton will be branded for life? Barton should probably quit basketball and join the Golden Eagle Basketball Monastery in Hattiesburg. After several years of self-flagellation, fasting, chanting over and over again "Don't shoot" and wearing those ugly Southern Miss colors he might be able to return to society.
