RE: OT: The Walking Dead
Living in the Hampton Roads area and surrounded by water, the obvious choice for me would be to find a floating vessel. I have yet to see zombies swim or breath underwater.
There's a lot of food in the sea. I'd make sure I had fishing gear.

BTW, after watching a few minutes of "The Talking Dead", I've come to realize why so many completely insane people are shooting up kids and schools - these people think/act/talk like the show is 100% real. I'm sure that applies to a ton of other shows.
Which leads to the question - Why in the name of God does all of the liberal media want guns gone? What would they replace 99.90% of the TV shows with? It's everything that's on TV. Disgusting, but apparently what you people like. Guts, gore, and death.
Jerry, before you say possibly say anything about me not agreeing with your point, which seems to be that "insane people are killing each other because they think that violent shows such as TWD are real", because of your affiliation with Liberty please let me assure you that is not the case. I've met many fine folks from Liberty and I'm sure you're one of them.
People do not go around killing each other because of violent TV shows nor do they do so because of the abundance of guns in our society. People kill because they are at least temporarily evil or because they are indeed insane; even you suggested this in your statement. After all, people who believe that fiction is real -particularly something as fantastic as TWD- are insane.
We've done it before and I will ask that we do not get into a gun debate on this board again; the last time I was partly to blame. This time I want nothing to do with it.
Back to fantasy-land: I need a bug-out location for the zombie apocalypse; any suggestions?
We're making the same point... many do not have the mental capacity to distinguish between reality and make-believe, which is why PLENTY of people pay 50% more for ammo with a zombie on the package.
I just think the "Talking Dead" hosts perpetuate the "reality" in the make-believe and confuse the people who shouldn't really be watching that type of fiction. Obviously, there's a bunch out there.
Otherwise, the show is cool. I got a kick out of how they give a tribute to the fallen zombies. LOL.

It would be best to be in a small city or on a farm. Too many people in big cities. First thing to do is get out the city. Prison or local jail would be great. Some type of federal building where you can barricade would be good too. Stay away from shopping centers or highly populated areas.
I'd stay away from prisons. Lots of people crammed into a small place with no way to get out.
I'd go rural where the population density is less.

A prison would be a viable solution a year into the mess. Right away I agree with Tintin. I have many routes memorized through Pungo towards Sandbridge at which point I would hop on the beach and drive south towards the many places I have friends a long the Corolla areas. Secluded enough but not too bad. (Yes I have a capable vehicle =] )
If that's blocked I am very familiar with getting south towards Suffolk/NE NC and Elizabeth City and west through those back roads. Basically goal is to head SW towards the rural parts of NC. Make my way down to the foothill of SC outside of Greer/Spartanburg to my family down there. Huge family with tons of guns/ammo and homes in the hillsides.

RE: OT: The Walking Dead
Why don't the survivors set up huge traps to kill the zombies?
Seems like daily killing all the zombies in an area would eventually result in no zombies in that area.
The trap would need to make noise that would attract the zombies and it could kill them or people watching could kill the zombies if the trap just trapped them.

Keep in mind those people in rural areas aren't gonna be very welcoming to people coming to take their resources. They also tend to be heavily armed.

What is it with the 'Zombie Packaging Schemes' that makes people think that one ammo is better than another? LOL... people are nuts.
As for the Talking Dead, don't worry too much about the folks who call in; I think that they, like most of us, need a break from what has become a very difficult past few years.

Bingo.
It has been said that we are "nine meals away from anarchy" or something like that; when things get bad and people get hungry people go berserk, collectively.
Thus, it would be best not to put oneself into that situation, regardless of the benefits of city liven'. Should a "bad situation" arise, I would rather be out in the country, alone, than in the city, in a well-fortified zone surrounded by folks who know what I have and want it.
Don't forget that you also have to think about water and food (in that order of priority)... those two things are much easier to come by in the country than they are in the city during a SHTF scenario.

The people thing is huge...people are the most dangerous predator on the planet. Look at the show now...the main threat comes from other people. The zombies are basically a dangerous annoyance.

I'd say yes to all your positives the only problem with food is bc of the high population density a lot of it would go quickly and what was left would spoil within days especially without power. As long as you had some sort of self contained garden to replenish the. I wouldn't advise it past 2 weeks after z day.

It's sad that I actually know what "Z Day" is. I need to play more golf.

There is literature where zombies have gone underwater. They either float on top, float semi-suspended, or dick around on the bottom.

Schools.......schools have food & can provide shelter, have basketball courts for a little r&r. Food can be grown on the football fields. Only problem is they are not defensible positions.
Water seems to be a good option.....head out to sea but you have to fight rogue waves, storms & so on. Much better than walkers & other crazy humans.
I have oftwn wondered if there are US ships & subs just sitting out @ sea trying to figure out how to deal with the zombies.
While im not a survival nut or anything like that i keep 6 weeks worth of dry goods @ all times. If no power or anything like that my family wont starve. I also keep 3 days worth of water & mre's in my jeep....... Just in case.

Yes. That one man was doing what I suggested. Seems like established groups like the one in the city and the one in the prison should do the same.

the problem with having 6 weeks worth of stuff is that it is useless unless you are in a position that can be defended. If not, you can only carry so much on your retreat.
